Eielson Air Force Base (AFB) Housing and Information:

Location:  Eielson AFB is located 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, in the interior of Alaska, about 110 miles south of the arctic circle. Eielson boasts hiking, fishing, canoeing, dog mushing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and some of the best Northern Lights Shows in the world.

Child Development Centers:  The Child Development Center is a modern facility located at 2449 French Creek Drive. Care is provided for the dependents of active duty and DoD Civilians. The Center accepts children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age.  Available programs include, weekly care, drop-in care and a preschool program. Reservations for drop ins are made on a first come first served basis, depending on availability. 

Schools:
 The schools on Eielson AFB are part of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. State of Alaska law and school district policy governs all of the schools in the area. Thus programs and services are similar from school to school. Extracurricular and co-curricular activities such as athletics, band orchestra, etc are provided within budget limitations. Senior high students are offered college prep courses as well as vocational technical education courses. Special education is provided for exceptional children, as well as for children with learning disabilities, physical handicaps and other special needs. Eielson has a representative on the school board to give a military perspective on policy issues.
