Location

Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL), CA. is the largest U.S. Army Reserve Command post with approximately 165,000 acres. FHL is located in Monterey County, in the central coast of California, 150 miles south of San Francisco and 250 miles north of Los Angeles. The installation is bounded on the north by the Salinas Valley, on the east by the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains, on the south by the Monterey/San Luis Obispo county line and on the west by approximately 55 miles of Los Padres National Forest.

In the summer months daytime temperatures may be 100 degrees or higher but soon after sunset, temperature drops rapidly and the nights are cool and pleasant. Winter temperatures are cool and frost is not uncommon. The rainy season usually is between December and February when the average annual 21-inch rainfall is expected to fall.

Temporary Quarters

Temporary lodging is available through IHG Army Hotels and the Historic Hacienda. IHG Accommodations include kitchenettes - stove, oven, microwave, coffee pot, micro fridge, individual air conditioning/heating units and ceiling fans, high-speed internet and cable with TV, VCR and DVD players. Pets are allowed with a $75.00 nonrefundable fee for the first six days and $7.00 for each additional day. Maximum allowable weight for pets is 80 pounds. Must have shot records for the animal. Express breakfast is offered at Gibb Hall, Room 5 from 6:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. daily. Finger foods and refreshments are also served during the Wednesday Weekly Social. All rooms are non-smoking. UPH Housing consists of 15 units. This facility can house 15- 30 soldiers between E1-E4 double occupancy and E5 single occupancy. Each apartment has 2 bedrooms, each with standard size bed, desk w/chair, 3 drawer dresser, 2 drawer nightstand and chair, 1 bathroom, 1 kitchen with stove, refrigerator, washer/dryer, dishwasher, bar stools. Area Population

FHL is surrounded by small communities; Lockwood, population approx. 520, Bradley, population approx. 1,400. King City, population approx., 13,000 is 25 miles northeast while Paso Robles, population approx., 31,000 is 45 miles south.

Family Housing

Fort Hunter Liggett has 84 Army Family Housing Units. Units include 2-4 bedroom, duplex, town homes, and single-family homes. All units have an attached 1.5 car garage with opener. Housing availability changes daily depending upon inbound personnel. It is recommended that you contact the Housing Office at 831-386-2075/3197/2845 to obtain current status of housing availability. All personnel will need to submit a DD-1746 Application for Family Housing and a copy of their orders. DOD civilians must have a copy of your offer letter of employment and proof of dependent status to qualify for Army Family Housing at Fort Hunter Liggett.
