11 schools:  6 elementary (grades K-5; four are on post), 1 sixth grade center (grade 6), 1 middle school (grades 7-8), 1 high school (grades 9-12), an early childhood center (for children with developmental concerns) and a career center (grades 10-adult)

The Waynesville R-VI Schools operates four elementary schools on post and two off post for students in kindergarten through fifth grades. All sixth graders attend the Waynesville Sixth Grade Center, which is an off-post facility dedicated to helping students successfully transition from elementary to middle school. There is a middle school (grades 7 and 8) off post. Seventh and eighth grade students attend nearby Waynesville Middle School. High school students attend Waynesville High School off post. The Waynesville High School campus includes a Ninth Grade Center that eases the transition for students from middle to high school.  Bus transportation is provided to and from school, including students temporarily residing in guest housing. For pre-kindergarten students, our Williams Early Childhood Center offers testing and works with students to overcome delays.

Everyone always refers to Fort Leonard Wood as Fort Lost in the Woods , and rightfully so. Until we actually got here, I really didn’t believe all the hype. My husband had been stationed here for training a few years back and I would occasionally fly in on the weekends to visit him. I always thought it was a nice area. Maybe not a ton to do, but it was survivable. Fast forward three and a half years, and two kids later. We’re now at Fort Leonard Wood full-time. I stay home with the girls while hubs goes to work.
