LocationMCRD San Diego, is located on 506 acres in downtown San Diego.  San Diego is indeed a military town - with several large Navy and Marine Corps installations calling San Diego County home. If arriving by car from the I-5, take the clearly marked exits for the Depot. The main entrance is on Witherby Street, which crosses under Pacific Highway as it approaches the base from the East. Alternate gated entrance points are on Washington Street to the South, and Barnett Avenue to the North. 

Cost of Living: The cost of living is high in part due to the flourishing tourist industry as well as the limited capacity for the expansion of housing.

Schools: There are no DoD schools serving MCRD San Diego. Children attend the local public schools in their community. The School Liaison Office, 619-524-8032/8104 (DSN) 312-524-8032/8104, helps parents in making their child's educational transition a smooth one in and out of San Diego by providing information on local schools and boundaries, assistance with school choice, and access to other educational resources.

Housing: Military Housing Service Center (619) 556-8443 / DSN 312-526-8443 specializes in finding both temporary and long-term housing rentals. Personalized housing services include home buying counseling and local area orientation. All military personnel, unaccompanied and accompanied, their families, as well as DoD employees are eligible for these services. Naval Complex San Diego has partnered with Lincoln Military Housing to offer service members and their families outstanding Public/Private Venture (PPV) housing or privatized military housing. San Diego PPV housing is located on and off government property and in most cases is former military housing. San Diego region is the largest housing complex network in the world. As such, the wait time for base housing can be long, so military families should be prepared to occupy civilian-sector housing for a period of time prior to receiving military housing assignment. You are strongly advised that you take advantage of the "one-stop shopping" character of the Military Housing Service Center office 619-556-7667 /(DSN) 312-526-7667, they can assist not only with government housing, but also with civilian-sector apartment and home rentals as well as home/condominium purchases. Housing Service Center is located on board Naval Base San Diego Median home price is $558,100. Median rent is $1,209.
