Red Hill is a wonderful school with talented, very dedicated teachers. Both my children have learned a lot there and the small size allows for the staff to really get to know each child. There is an amazing green space for children to learn and play outdoors. Red Hill has a nice community of families and the PTO holds many fun events throughout the year that allows for community building.

I have two children at Red Hill, one in 3rd grade, and one in 1st. Because Red Hill is a small school the approach to each childs needs is very individualized. The principal and vice principal are very involved and the teachers truly care. As a parent with a child with special needs I can safely say I always have an ear and feel I can call a meeting at any time with all of the adults that work with my child. Solutions are nuanced and creative when needed. Contrary to the statistic on this website we have a full time councilor for our small school. Finally, Red Hill is developing a robust outdoor learning program.

Awful. I pulled my child out after a month of dealing with the worst school in Albemarle county. If you have any other possible option for your child(ren), please utilize it. Red hill is a complete waste of tax payer dollars. It really is the school that got left behind.

There isn't any homework typically. When there is, it doesn't get checked or on the off chance it does get checked, it doesn't get corrected.

The only teacher there that is fantastic is Sylvia Jenkins (the pre-order teacher).

There is nothing good or worthwhile being taught there. It's a glorified day care.

There is very little teaching going on period, much less consideration for children who learn differently or are behind or advanced.

The bullying isn't addressed by the principal or the teachers effectively. If it's addressed at all it is very much sugarcoated.

Both of my children have attended this school and we love it. As a parent of a student with special needs, the school has always made sure that my child has every service needed. We love being a part of the Red Hill family and the small and loving community!

My daughter attended Red Hill for 3 years, and my son is currently a 5th grader at Red Hill. Both of our kids love the school and its quaint setting, small class sizes, and mostly great teachers. A previous comment about there being no substantive gifted program is false. My son has never made anything below an A, is in the gifted program, and he scores very high on all state tests.

This school has gone steadily downhill under its current principal. The county clearly doesn't care about the condition of the school and with a principal who is just marking his time until retirement it continues to score lower and lower in state testing. There are no substantive gifted programs and it teaches to the lowest common denominator which is near the bottom of the barrel.

Red Hill is an outstanding, dynamic, supportive and friendly school. As one of the smallest elementary schools in the county, it enjoys a wonderful family atmosphere where all the teachers know each and every child. While it draws a fair portion of its students from a lower socioeconomic group than other county schools, it has no impact on the opportunities for high performing students. In addition, the teachers, curriculum, and student engagement rival the best elementary schools in the county.

This is truly a fabulous school, don't let the "great schools rating" fool you. My two children attended here for two years and had a great time. The teachers are top-notch, the principal outstanding, and the staff friendly and helpful. The class sizes are very small and both of my kids thrived academically. The only thing that was ever an issue was funding for special services (in our case one of my kids needed speech therapy and I had to seek help outside of the school). I honestly believe that this, however, was not so much a reflection on the school as it was the school district and available funding. I would highly recommend this school.
