Location: Located just 35 miles from Louisville, Fort Knox encompasses 109,000 acres in three Kentucky counties. Fort Knox has a population of over 40,000 Soldiers, family members and civilian employees. Fort Knox uniquely boasts the sole responsibility for all Soldier career management, from swearing in to departing service. Its units include Army Cadet Command, Army Human Resources Command, and Army Recruiting Command. These units, along with the 19th Engineer Battalion the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 4th Cavalry Brigade, 1st Army Division (East), Ireland Army Community Hospital, and other "Partners in Excellence" make Fort Knox the most multi-functional military base in the United States Army.

Schools:  The Fort Knox Community Schools system is a part of the Kentucky District, one of five districts in the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools. DDESS is a division of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), serving children of military families around the globe.

The Fort Knox Community Schools are Van Voorhis Elementary School with grades preK-5, Macdonald Elementary School with grades 1-5, Scott Middle School with grades 6-8, and Fort Knox High School with grades 9-12. New students are required to be a dependent of an Active Duty military sponsor and have permanent on-post housing. Boys and girls can participate in a full program of athletics: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling. Athletic programs are competitive, with wrestling, weight lifting, cross-country, and track state championship awards highlighting an extensive trophy case. Schools are supported by significant hardware, software, and technology staff at district and school levels. The new high school offers a wide variety of courses, including Advanced Placement, Professional Technical Studies, Foreign languages, Fort Knox Community Schools, 502-624-2345.
