Location:  Sheppard AFB is in Wichita Falls, Texas, situated approximately 130 miles between Dallas and Oklahoma City. Wichita Falls is only 15 miles from the Oklahoma border and the Red River.

Cost of Living: Compared to the rest of the country, Wichita Falls Metro Area's cost of living is 23.5% lower than the U.S. average. Housing costs in this area are relatively low compared to other parts of the country.

Area Population:  According to the 2014 Census, the population of Wichita Falls, TX was 105,114. The population of Wichita Falls and the immediate surrounding area is around 150,000.

Schools: Sheppard Elementary, on base, serves those children residing in Wind Creek Village and south Heritage Heights. Military Families residing in Freedom Estates and north Heritage Heights (Burkburnett ISD) may also attend Sheppard Elementary by completing a school transfer. Two school districts serve the three Sheppard housing areas (Wind Creek Village, Heritage Heights, and Freedom Estates):

• Freedom Estates residents attend schools in the Burkburnett Independent School District.
• Wind Creek Village and Heritage Heights residents attend the Wichita Falls Independent School District.

Sheppard AFB Housing: Family Housing at Sheppard is privatized, owned and operated by Balfour Beatty Communities. There are three housing areas with 2, 3, and 4 bedroom homes for all ranks.
