Midnight Sun is the best K-8 school in the Mat-Su Valley! The teachers are very caring and extremely good at teaching! The educational platform of Core Knowledge (look this up…this organization facilitated the creation of Common Core Standards, which builds equity) and MSBSD curriculum plus 100% family involvement make this a choice school for this area. Algebra I is offered along with English I for qualifying middle school students. Grade levels exist but students are not stagnant at their “grade-level” so boredom and lack of progress does not happen. Special education students receive full inclusion with small groups for intervention. The staff is wonderful!

This school has some excellent teachers and some not so excellent teachers. It is a very good school for K through 3rd or 4th grade but loses strength after that. They desperately need an independent highly qualified, well organized principal who is removed from the school and on outsider who can apply some objective reform and leadership. The upper grades have to many grades in a classroom, are repetitive in nature and in at least some of the classes involve more memorizing and regurgitating than learning. There is a BIG difference from classroom to classroom. The lower grades do an excellent job in teaching children how to think and be good learners with creativity and childhood play and movement intertwined so I would highly recommend the school for K-4 and then discourage it for older grades. That belief is mirrored in their enrollment turnover where few student stay to graduation and many enter and leave in the upper grades. The K- 4 turnover is VERY low.

They are the greatest! They have great parent teacher communication. I never have to wonder where my daughter is in any subject.

I think Midnight Sun is an awesome school. Each teacher has their own unique style of teaching. Some teachers are straight forward and to the point, others are very warm and patient. I believe parents need to remember that their is no perfect teacher (although I think ours comes close) and they are people, they have good and bad days. I am okay with having someone who is willing to show their true colors, let their limits be known, and let the 'parent' in them be seen. I have seen this in all the teachers. My children don't have the social pressures that conventional school have, very little bullying, and learn respect and responsibility for themselves and others. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else!
