My three kids attended here and will all have graduated university soon. I would say it is rated correctly on Greatschools.org. There is room for improvement, but overall a good school for your students to attend.

My biggest issue is with the school leadership, specifically, the Principal. We had a meeting with him because the school could not get my student's transcript correct. After multiple attempts, the Principal asks, "Are you just trying to improve your students class standing?" Then he left the meeting saying he had a prior engagement. So, because they were trying to correct the transcript and they could not do it for the life of them, apparently he beleived we were trying to cheat the system. That's poor leadership and a discredit to the school and its students. In the end, the transcript was never 100% correct.

This is the worst environment we have experienced in our military academic experience, the emebedes racism is obvious. The arrongant leadership only serves their preferred students, kids are a reflection of the white mentality of the town. It is not a welcoming school. There are other options in the region, stay away from this sinking ship!! Formal communication is just a wash for them. Hipócrates in every sense of the way.

Sports coaches are the worst in the nation look at their past 5 year records!!

School Couselor told my daughter that there was a law that said she couldn't attend high school more than 4 years. She is trying to push her out of school. No discplinary problems. Never been in trouble at school before.
My daughter missed nearly all of her 10th grade year due to a major health issue before she came to live with me. This situation was documented and should 100% be addressed. This individual did not ask any questions or show the 1st bit of concern or empathy. She blew it off and told me what I should have done instead. My daughter was recovering under the care of a physician during this time.
Now she thinks she is going to force me to load my child down with online classes, knowing full well the work load is not sustainable. Assuming I am not intelligent enough to see through her agenda.
What's crazy is that i moved heaven and earth to get my daughter out of a bad school system not once but twice! Only to be received in this manner.
The people in the school system now are not like they used to be. I remember my school counselor meeting kids where they were in life and desperately trying to help them succeed. Cold and heartless is what they are now. It is obvious there is something else at work here. Why my daughter? Why now? It is so sad to see what these people have done to our children.

Overall, I have been really impressed with this school. So far, I e had one child graduate and is going off to college. My middle child will be a junior next year(22-23). Her ACT was a 24 on the first try and I think that reflects the schools prep work.
My kids are all “band kids”. Overall, the band program has been a great experience, (although the director is a micro-manager), but still, when other schools are cutting music, prattville has music in middle, junior high, and high schools.
There is a reason that people pick Prattville’s school district to live in. There is a reason that the cost of living is higher in prattville vs the surrounding Montgomery area.

To be fair PHS has the most choice as far class options for schools in Autauga County which is why we kept our son there instead of transferring him to a private school. The Autauga County Technology Center, which is right next door and which PHS students can walk over to for some elective classes, is a benefit. Although PHS only offers Spanish and French the students can take them for four years which is not the case at some private schools.

PHS is underfunded, understaffed and uncommunicative. Although we've had good results emailing teachers directly, do not expect that the office will answer the phone or return messages. If you need to speak with them you will probably have to go to the office. They will send only a few messages during the year and the same applies to the school website. I believe their motto is "We don't need to let you know because we've always done it this way." However, if you want to know any information about sports that will be readily available. As PHS does have parent contact info they use once in a while I'm not sure why they don't do a better job of keeping parents informed with a weekly email newsletter like other High Schools do.

BUSES: Kindergarten through High School students will be on the same bus. With stopping at every school the routes are LONG - possibly an hour or longer each way. The bus garage and schools do not communicate well with each other. If you need to find out bus stop information you'll probably have to call or stop by the bus garage.

DRIVERS ED: It is my understanding that PHS is only able to offer 1/3 of students Drivers Ed and those students get very little driving time. It is mostly a study hall class. Students MUST have their permit already on the first day of class. Without drivers ed student auto insurance rates will be higher. Some of the private schools offer drivers ed.

There is only ONE guidance counselor for each grade. Do not expect much from them.

My son says there are fights and bullying in the lunch room and halls and occasional lock downs for drug searches. None of this is communicated to parents.

In the two years my son has been at PHS, several of his teachers have quit in the middle of the year or there has been a temp teacher at the beginning of the year. He has had teachers NOT complete the required curriculum for the year.

I think this High School is as good as any other my children have attended. We are a military family and only in the area for one year. Prattville High School is like any other school in that if your child is diligent and does his/her work they will be successful and have a good experience. They are very welcoming and the teachers I feel did a great job!

the majority of the teachers don't seem to care about teaching and are just there filling a chair. There is extreme favoritism played by many of the teachers, and many of them are bullies to those not in the inner circle for them.

My child hardly ever has any homework at all. How is this helping the child learn good study habits and preparing them for the rigorous studying in college. The ansewer is, it dosen't.

My child has been in this school system since 3rd grade and I can tell you that this is a horrifyingly bad school system. The teachers play favorites so badly that it is just plain cruel if you're not on the favorite list. There are a few teachers that actually care, but they are far and few between. Most don't seem to care at all about teaching the subject they are assigned to. And if your child is not one of the most popular kids, comforming to everything as a "yes man" to appease them, your child will be the constant target of bullying by the students and the teachers as well. Thank god my child is finishing school and going to college elsewhere. Staying in this awful place would be unbearable. I've often heard people say that we should be grateful how great Prattville schools are compared to the Montgomery schools. Well, to me that's like saying you can choose 2 ways to die.....1. Someone will aim and fire straight at you, or 2. Someone will come up behind you and stab you in the back. This school is no better and you have to fight for everything. I had to fight with administration at times just to see my daughters school work, because they don't think parents should ever see their childs work. I even had to go into the principals office to view the work but couldn't take anything with me so I could review with my daughter her mistakes. There is nothing fair or good about this school, even when you as a parent are constantly in there fighting for the best for your child. The school only cares about sports/football and education is an after thought......If you want any chance of some kind of education here, you must go with the Honors and AP classes. You'll at least get some chance then.

Athletic Director/Football Coach more worried about the perception of him and the team than ensuring ineligible players and cheerleaders who live out of the area do not participate in school activities. School needs to enforce who should be able to participate in activities versus allowing ineligible students to continue to stay on teams after they have moved from the area. Academics are OK, most teachers care for their students.

The school cares more about its football team then anything. Teacher have math books and white board on their wish list because money isn't used for education but for this sports team. The new principal isn't visible at all. The Vice principal is amazing and the only shining light for the staff. Classes aren't challenging student they just want to get them graduated and you will see the same kids hanging around because they don't have the skill to attend a college or trade school. SO many fights!!

I don't think there is really a way of saying this other than being completely honest - this school is just like any other school that you'll come across. If you are looking for perfection, you will hate every public school. I graduate this May and spent all four years at Prattville and it is what you make it to be. If your kid mopes around and doesn't talk to anyone, THEY AREN'T GOING TO MAKE FRIENDS OR HAVE HELP FROM TEACHERS! don't expect your teenager to get everything handed to them on a silver platter when everything is now THEIR responsibility. I have had the most help and the most mercy with all of the teachers that I've had and the kids there act how any other teenager in the world would act. you can't expect golden toilet seats and nap time, high school is high school and if you aren't paying for it, then you get what you give. The principal and staff do their jobs very well, the dress code of no uniforms is a great privilege, and if you're going to live in the Montgomery/Prattville region, Prattville is your best option. Check out the public schools in Montgomery and then complain. ;-)

My kids currently go to Prattville High and I can tell you it is probably one of the worst schools I have ever had to deal with. Mr. Dennis is probably the worse principal. It is about Football there, academics are a joke. It is very hard to get ahold of anyone at the school, including counselors, you basically have to go down there and then you will be lucky if the front office even knows where they are at the time. Very disorganized, very clickish, very backwoods. Teachers do not keep up with grading or where your child is in their class and tutoring availability is a joke. The students are allowed to harrass other students and guidelines for dress are comical. i am sure that the reviews of the families that love the school are pretty much only from the area of Prattville because they all grew up around there and "outsiders" are not welcomed. Move you kids out asap!

The new principal, has greatly improved this school since he took over in Aug. 2011. This year 2012-2013 is even better. I have an AP student who has attended 8 schools over 12 years and she is thriving with caring teachers. We are a military family on our second assignment to Maxwell AFB. Our oldest graduated from LAMP when we lived on base and it was a fine school for her. PHS has given our other child a broader view of socioeconomic situations and academic levels. Our teen was accepted at LAMP since we thought we would move to Montgomery, but we decided the broader spectrum of sports, clubs, and students at PHS would be a better option and selected to live in Prattville.

PHS is one of the worst schools we have ever dealt with. Teachers do not communicate with parents unless you contact the Principle or Asst. Principle to get things handle. Teachers leave in the middle of the year and parents are not notified, they expect the students to tell their parent which leave parents with no contact information. Students have to redo work done in class because either teacher or teacher s aides have lost or not graded the work. Parents are expected to purchase Inow website in order to keep up with how their children are doing in school however teachers do not update them until months later if they do at all! I have contacted the counselor when we found out we were moving, left a message and NEVER received a return phone call. This school only cares about their sports team ...especially FOOTBALL so if you would like to be on a winning FOOTBALL team PHS is your school but if you want a school that cares about your children run the other way and find another school.

I'm appalled at how teachers and other staff members are ignoring the blatant bullying problem at this school. A girl I am very close to almost shot herself last night after having read several notes with hateful, hurtful, and otherwise deplorable comments on them. If this continues, I will most definitely be contacting administration. This is not okay and has to stop!

My daughter graduated from Prattville in 2009 and my son is poised to graduate this May. Both my children have received educations that have prepared them for the next stage in their lives. My daughter is currently enrolled at UAB and my son plans to attend Stamford University. Prattville High is not undisciplined or substandard in any way. It goes back to parenting and not expecting the school to be your children's guardian. The adage "Garbage in/Garbage out" is true of any program. That said, Prattville offers AP and Honors courses for the students who expect to be challenged. If you don't like its focus on football, ask -- no, plead for a transfer out of this area of the country, because it is a huge part of our heritage in Alabama and across the southeast as well. Go Lions!

This school is great. My whole four years of going here were the best years of my life. I just recently graduated from Prattville and the school is not a zoo. Considering how many kids go there it is doing very well. All schools have things they aren't proud of, like fights. It doesn't just happen at Prattville. I was apart of the band and that was wonderful. We don't just care about football. Academics are more important that football. Just because we are good and take pride in it doesn't mean that is all we focused on. I would recomend this school to any teenager.

To all the parents who dont actually go there, you obviously have no idea about it. There is control, especially with the arival of Mr. Dennis. From people not attending the school, it does look like its all about football, but trust me its not!!! I have teachers that are extremely hard, and I'm a straight a student. Band is great, the pep rallies are amazing and the classes are challenging. Please do not post about what you dont know.

This school leaves a lot to be desired. It is a zoo. Teachers don't seem to have control at all. It's way too hard to reach teachers and forget getting a call back. my child has done well here but to many troublemakers who have no desire to learn. do not send your child here! Military families look to Mary for better education!!!!!! Football is not life...education is.

This is the worst school in the state. The principal only cares about football and politics. He runs for the office of superintendent, but can't even run this school. He should be replaced immediately.

This school is disappointing at best. The faculty, from the principal to the guidance counsellors are difficult to reach and respond to parents only after being threatened with escalating to their superiors. This school is not about academics and if you read the reviews that say the school is good, you'll notice they were posted in 2007-2008. My son has attended PHS for three years and I have not been impressed by the curriculum or the faculty. I believe that the focus is on simply getting a paycheck and football (not necessarily in that order). Look for other alternatives. PHS is not the place for your children if you'd like a school that actually cares about the students.

Although there are a few wonderful teachers and some fun clubs to get involved in, overall this school is terrible! The school is better than the Montgomery public schools; however, it is a zoo, and many of the students act like animals. Many teachers do nothing about blatant tabacco use, and fights occur more than frequently. The administration is pathetic, and football is the focus. The four by four block schdule in addition to the overwhelming amount of lazy teachers makes it difficult to truly learn material. Military families avoid putting your teens in this school if at all possible!
