I recently just finished middle school, and this is by far the best school I've been to (This was my 5th). In class, teachers really try to keep their students engaged while also trying to make sure they have fun. The school also tries to plan fun activities such as Pirates day towards the end of the year, and Core Crew as a way to help students from different grades to meet and interact with each other. The school also has an advisory system where students choose every week one class where they may need help in. Now, regarding the negative reviews that I've seen, I will say that a lot of the students aren't the best, I'd know, because a good bit of the kids were mean to me as well, but that isn't entirely, if at all, the schools fault, and instead, the students who are like that parents' fault for allowing them to act that way. Most of the bullies also do it specifically where teachers can't see them doing it, and when teachers are around, they completely change up. As for teachers, there might be 1 or 2 bad ones, but there's none that I've seen. Also, the school offers many different electives and programs/sports, such as robotics, facs, math team, German, French, Spanish, band, choir, etc., each of which that I've done has been an amazing experience. They also offer advanced classes for all core subjects and art. The school aslo doesn't bombard you with too much homework, and (at least in my experience) math homework often isn't mandatory to complete, and is moreso just practice if you need it, but I still recommend that you complete it just in case. Also, while I'm writing this, I will highly recommend that if you're up for the challenge, you should join math team. I regret not joining in 6th grade, because it's one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had. Overall, I'd say Pizitz, while not perfect, is by far one of the best schools in Alabama, and will miss the teachers and staff there.

I am Unimpressed that th is school has allowed its students to be bullied with racially charged words and fails to act. Shame on them.

Current leadership at this has failed repeatedly to protect its children. Until there is a change in leadership, keep your child safe and send them somewhere else.

Extremely disappointed to know that Pizitz middle school and its staff are complicit in allowing their students to aggressively harass and perpetuate bullying to other students based on their race. We've heard too many stories of "elitist" students feeling as though they are entitled to yell racial slurs and harass other students without the school having any actions to dispel said behavior. Horrible grounds for students to learn.

Lots of teacher are rude and unfair. They say this is a great school, lots of students here get good grades, but most of them are unhappy and hate the school as a whole. Teachers give unreasonable expectations to kids and if you dont reach them, then youre screwed. If youre not Christian, then your experience there will not be good. If youre out as someone apart of the LGBTQ+ community, then people will judge you and talk behind your back. No will do anything about it. Dress code is sexist. Most boys wear Aftco shorts, right? Those arent in dress code. If a girls shorts are half an inch too short, they have to wear their gym shorts. Do you know how uncomfortable and ugly those things are? People would make fun of that kid for days and no one would do anything except say, Okay, thats enough. No laughing. As if that actually does anything. This school is horrible. Do not send your child here unless you want them to ask for a therapist.

Pizitz is a great group of teachers overall, but they have amazing programs for amazing kids! They do have some required things I would not agree with like the boys do a mile run, and later on girls do a very embarrassing dance unit and you HAVE to perform your own routine in front of the school. They have a great robotics and math team as well! Family and consumer science (FACS) is also one of the best classes you can take at Pizitz. But, Pizitz has one of the top choir programs in the country, led by Brent Coleman and Melissa Bonds, who have taught for over 10 years in choir at Pizitz.

I felt that 6th grade was OK for my child. Hopefully, 7th grade will be an improvement. However, I believe there is a pervasive attitude of superiority in entire VHCS if you did not grow up here or do not spend every waking minute at your child's school trying to be in the PTO. And sadly, it is used to limit your child's ability to participate in things if you aren't "in the know" or part of the "right" group. We are seriously contemplating home schooling or changing schools to alleviate the favoritism and conceited approach employed by the schools in Vestavia.

6th grade has been one of the worst years ever. Pizitz was ranked as one of the best schools in the country, however we have yet to see why its so great. If 7th grade is not a HUGE improvement compared to this year we will be leaving the Vestavia school system. Not impressed at all.

The amount of homework is astronomical. My poor child can't do anything extra this school year because she is afraid of failing 6th grade. College students have less assigned to them academically.

We have been in the community for many years, I have to agree that racism and bullying are a present factor. We have known of many families to leave and go to Homewood, Hoover or Pelham for a more diverse/social and emotionally healthy environment. Their kids are doing well; able to participate in sports and auxiliaries without bias. At this time I am contemplating about doing the same thing. The fact that this is our first year at Pizitz is what brings me to this conclusion. Some of the staff here have no tact, compassion or respect for the students and parents of a certain shade of skin. I personally haven't experienced it at this level until we got to Pizitz.. I pray that this review is not recieved as negative but accepted as a pardon for improvement at Pizitz and the community as a whole.

I am going to have to agree with some of the negative reviews. As someone who attended Pizitz, I am appalled at how the former principal and teachers handled bullying and racism. It's hard to believe that the "best school in America" would fail to protect children, and blame kids for being bullied. I now live in the Northern part of America, and can confidently say that Vestavia Hills is a questionable place to live. It may be wealthy, but there's a lack of empathy and disregard for the emotional health of kids. Pizitz Middle School needs to work on keeping kids safe and respected. The faculty needs to be educated on bullying and abuse of kids.

Best Middle School in America!! I love being apart of such an awesome faculty! Their professionalism and creativity helps me grow to become a better teacher everyday. My principal has his heart in his work and it really shows on a daily basis.
