I was a previous student at this school and faces many issues with not only the students, but also the teachers. When i came to the counselors and teachers about being socially outcasted from the large majority of the students, they told me that i should ignore it. There was only one teacher in the school that i liked, and the majority of the others often had the same problem of being too overly strict. Some kids would miss out on certain aspects of the class because they wouldve rather gone the whole period without going back to their home room to get an item they forgot due to there being punishments for forgetting to grab things, and these punishments would stack into worse reprimands. The students are absolutely horrible as well. The teachers are well aware that some of the kids they teach are feigning a nice smile, but dont do anything about it. The majority of the parents and kids are snobby and rude. I also rate them low for kids that are different because of the fact that almost everybody at the school will look at you different just because you behave in a certain way or look a certain way. The kids there are unkind to those with disabilities and you WILL be outcasted for being different from the cliche popular girls/guys. Sometimes teachers wont be the best at adjusting for your kid as well. The teachers will treat your middle school kids as though theyve already arrive at high school and will begin preparing them for that and even more with unnecessarily harsh reprimands. Some teachers are also incapable of keeping the classroom unpolitical. I had to sit through almost 20 minutes of a teachers political opinions in one class that not a single student even asked to hear!!! The only students that would thrive in this school are the ones you see in Mean Girls, and id say that some kids at this school would even be comparable to some characters from there. Not all kids and teachers are horrible though, i know if your kid goes to this school, theyll at least find support through the groups of students who are out casted and the teachers who do actually take issue with this. The only reason i held out for the entire school year was my two only friends and my amazing science teacher. Theres always light in the dark, and i think that this school should definitely rethink some of their choices, but this doesnt mean that the issues are completely gone. Please choose carefully, this can be a good school for the able, but not for the different.

We love St. Johns! My two kids have been here K-5th grade. Every single teacher has been exceptional with them. They push them to be better students and my kids have loved every single teacher they have had! The teachers always have control in the classroom and get respect from their students. Anytime I have reached out to a teacher or support staff, they have responded timely and respectfully. Im looking forward to my 3rd child starting here next year!

We have been a part of the St. John the Baptist Catholic School community since our children started in Pre-K and Kindergarten, and now they are beginning their 6th and 8th-grade years. St. Johns has been an incredible experience for our entire family.

Our children have not only received a fantastic education but have also grown into kind, empathetic individuals. Theyve learned the importance of welcoming new students, volunteering to assist younger ones, and being true friends. Its been wonderful to see them thrive academically and develop into such compassionate people.

I am so grateful for the positive influence St. John's has had on our children's lives and who they are becoming. I truly believe the nurturing environment and dedicated staff at St. Johns have been instrumental in this journey. I highly recommend this school to any family looking for a place where their children can grow both academically and personally.

We love St. John's! This is our 10th year at the school. My kids have thrived/are thriving at St. John's spiritually, emotionally and academically. While not every school is for every child, this school meets or has met the needs of my children. The teachers have been great, making sure my kids are challenged in their classes. And I love the religious aspect at the school.

St. John's is such a great community. The teachers, staff, and students are incredibly welcoming and dedicated, and everyone supports and encourages each other. The school also emphasizes Catholic teachings in all areas. Students go on many immersive field trips throughout the year, and the eighth grade retreat is the best experience for students to come together as a class. In addition, students are extremely prepared for high school when they graduate eighth grade. Overall, St. John's is the best school for children to deepen their faith and become better as individuals.

This is our second year at the school, where our two youngest attend. Their teachers have been great, focusing on their development and understanding their individual needs. The academic level seems just right, pushing the students appropriately. We also love the community aspects of the school.

St. John's provides excellent, well-rounded support for children of all abilities. When my daughter needed extra attention with learning, or medical attention from the nurse, they were able to accommodate. The teacher work with parents and make themselves available for any needed communication.

Make this your last choice. Weve been here 3 years and I am glad to say it is our last. The worst of it is the lack of professionalism and communication. You can email your concerns to the principal if your child is experiencing bullying or other problems and you wont even get a response of any kind. Nothing. With the kids its like Lord of the Flies. There is a circle of kids whos parents all work at the school in some capacity and they are allowed to be nasty human beings with impunity.

St. John's was the best decision I ever made for my family. In 20 years of having children attend school at St. John's, I have never had a reason to regret making that choice for their education. I still have one child in middle school, and I am confident she is receiving the same solid foundation in faith and academics as my 3 older children. In addition to excellent academics, St. John's offers many extra-curricular activities, including sports, band, and drama. St. John's is a family focused community,

Elementary schools should be very careful in choosing substitute teachers for their higher grades. Some are just not qualified to teach or help all students in this day and age. The religious aspect is wonderful. Teaching core subjects takes patience, understanding and maybe even some after school tutoring. Some of these attributes are lacking here.

I have been at this school for 2 years. In comparison to my old school, they control physical contact much better. They are handling the restrictions for Covid-19 very well and consistently. The teachers actually care about the students and hope for their success.

We pulled our kids out of this school last year. My son was behind in reading and math. Luckily he is now thriving in public school after having to catch up. The K4 and K5 teachers were great. However, there seemed to be a lack of communication from the first grade teacher. The teachers seemed to be more inviting than the other parents. Parents tend to be snobbish and clique-ish, which unfortunately rolls down in to their kids and how they behave as well. Public school has been a much better fit for my children.

Our family is so glad the school year is just about over! There is absolutely no reason for the teachers to be so harsh and uncaring towards the children. The upper elementary teachers very rarely smile, seem incredibly grumpy, and speak to the students with negativity and contempt, and their tone on voice always sounds like they are blaming something on the students. This is not how teachers should speak to students. Teachers should speak to students warmly, kindly, encouragingly, and positively, but you won't find that here in the upper elementary grade-level teachers. All of the teachers who teach "Specials," such as Art, Music, Library, are very kind, though. This school does not provide any type of Math foundation at all. In our experiences here, the teachers have actually not "taught" Math -- they simply tell the students to turn to a page in their Math textbooks and figure out how to do the next lesson! You can't teach Math like that!!! And why do they not allow the upper elementary kids to have recess? These kids are sitting inside for 7 hours a day in the hot classroom -- there is a beautiful field that NEVER gets used! I will tell you why there is no recess -- we found that it is because the teachers simply do not want to go outside. This has to be the only reason -- the kids are in school for 7 hours a day and there is plenty of time for 30 minutes of fresh air! This school does not value the kids like it pretends to do.

PUNITIVE Grading System!!! If you want your child to receive grades that do not match their abilities, that do not correlate with their TRUE performance on assignments, then this is the school for you!! If you want your child to work long and hard to complete assignment perfectly, or near perfectly, only to be marked down extremely punitively for the smallest mistakes, then this is the school for you. We have found the grading standards to be completely inconsistent. Rubrics given by the teachers have been poorly designed, poorly defined, very subjective. We have found that teachers at this school like to hand out rubrics but then diminish the child's true and actual mastery of the skills by marking off for standards not written in the rubric. HOW CAN A CHILD KNOW WHAT YOU WILL GRADE THEM OFF IF IT IS NOT COMMUNICATED TO THEM IN WRITING???!!! Are the kids supposed to be mind readers? This type of grading reeks of subjectivity and bias. This type of grading does not belong in 21st Century Education.

I am an eighth grader at this school, and I can tell you right now that my classmates are wrong. They all say the teachers are terrible. They say that because the teachers are trying to get them to LEARN. What a horrible objective. To me, this school is the best school ever. They only give us homework when it actually reinforces the learning rather than repeating it, and the curriculum is set over many areas of knowledge. The middle school math and science teachers especially are phenomenal. What my classmates say is not relevant. They just can't wait for high school, and they take out their frustration on their current school's reputation. Sending your children here is a guarantee for success in their future.

This school is one of the worst. I am not pleased with the curriculum whatsoever. I have been wuth them for eight and a half years now, the decline of the standard has gone down immensely. 1/10 would not school again.

St. Johns is an amazing school! Both of my children are thriving. Their teachers challenge them on a daily basis. They come home happy and are eager to learn. The principal and her staff are all extremely professional and love the children. I can not imagine my children anywhere else. I do not have to worry who their teacher will be the following grade because ALL of the teachers are well qualified, friendly and have a true joy for teaching!

This school feels like we are in jail! We have uniforms, which I understand, and we have no freedom. Im an eighth grade and have gone to St. Johns since kindergarten. Elementary school was fine but middle school was horrible. If you are thinking about sending your kid to St. Johns please reconsider because your child will have no fun and will come home everyday depressed.

St. John's is an amazing school. Students are taught on the level at which they are capable and teachers will challenge them if the student needs to be pushed based on what is shown in the classroom, not what a parent dictates. Students are taught high academics and also guided in their faith, attending a school Mass will show you that students are learning self discipline and respect. Technology is always expanding at the school. Teachers do not have tenure and must work at their best at all times. The principal makes her expectations known at all times and knows that most issues are black and white, but sometimes all lines are blurred and need a case by case decision. The Vice Principal does come across as cold and demanding, but she does help the curriculum stay consistent. The school is amazing, but as with all schools....students must be involved in the classroom and other activities and so must their parents. St. John's has created the environment for learning, but it is up to the students and parents to take advantage of all the opportunities. I can't imagine my children anywhere else.

Moving my son to St. Johns last fall from one of the Madison City Schools was simply the best decision I have ever made for him! He is so happy. His reading and writing improved instantly. He is already asking me to stay there through 8th grade! The staff is friendly and professional and everything is super organized. I was given the chance to get involved almost instantly. If you are looking for an excellent private school in Madison St. Johns is top notch and well worth the money spent!

My daughter began St. Johns last fall after attending a Madison City School. Her morale immediately changed. Her interest in learning and grades immediately improved. Communication is open. Emails are answered the same day. Parents are extremely involved. All of the teachers are prefessionals. The principal greeted us with open arms and is very friendly. My daughters favorite subject is religon. We feel like it is MONEY WELL SPENT and have nothing but a warm feeling about her upcoming years at St. Johns!!

We transferred our daughter to St. Johns last fall after being in a Madison City School. Her morale improved instantly. Her enthusiam for learning and grades improved quickly. It was one of the best decisions we have ever made for her. She loves school, her peers and her teacher. Her favorite subject is religion. Mrs. Lewis the principal welcomed us with open arms and is very prefessional. She is no fluff, sets high standards, addresses problems head on but that is exactly how a principal needs to be. Her students are happy and you can tell she truely cares for them. As a result of her efforts they come out as winners. The teachers are all professional, the staff is friendly, the parents are super involved and I have nothing but a warm feeling inside when I drop my daughter off there and look forward to hopefully many more years at this school. It is WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!
