Loveless Academic Magnet Program (LAMP) High School

I somehow managed to get into LAMP as it was actually REALLY hard to get into. At first, I was really happy since I was actually in the top 6 to get selected and literally thought that the difficulty of this school wouldn't be bothersome to me.

I genuinely lost my emotions the second I started that school.

Every day, go to Panera after school to study until 7pm. Come home, and study even more. If not, wake up as early as 5 am and continue studying. The worst part about this is that some of my friends had clubs in the morning as early as 4 am to 6.
My grades started dropping one by one to Fs; which I never encountered any grade lower than A- or B+. My mental breakdowns stopped just 3 weeks later I started school as I normalized and named myself as the "idiot" one.
In the reviews, the school is demonstrated as one of the BEST schools in the country, or that the school is amazing. It's not. Although I got along with people, the school itself destroyed me.

Today I go to an ordinary school that I actually have a really good social life in and ranked top 5 in my grade. I think what matters is that you get to be WHO you are rather than some high school taking away your teenage life.

This place is awful!!!!! I hate the food and I’m not even a picky eater!! The gym sucks so do the bathrooms!

My son currently attends LAMP as a senior. It's an amazing school--the faculty sets high standards and holds students accountable--something that's missing at many public schools. The LAMP students excel in academics (corroborated by extraordinarily high scores on ACT and SAT), athletics, and citizenship.
It would be nice if the local government leadership had a better appreciation for the fact that LAMP is the crown jewel in the public school system (one of the few bright spots). Last year, LAMP was forced to move from its dilapidated building in East Montgomery to the abandoned Houston Hills school building on Hall Street. Still, the faculty and students continue to shine despite being under-resourced.

Some parents believe the work load is too great. However, I would argue that most American students balk when they get to college at the level they must perform. That is not a problem with these students.

This is an amazing school! Our oldest daughter transferred in as a junior and graduated with full scholarship offers from 7 different universities. The staff and learning environment are outstanding. Students leave LAMP truly prepared for college and our daughter still refers to LAMP as one of the best opportunities she was ever given.

THE greatschools.org RANKING OF 6 IS INCORRECT PER THE greatschoools.org SUPPORT TEAM. IT HAS CONSISTENTLY BEEN A 10! I am a concerned parent who noticed that greatschools.org consistently ranked Loveless Magnet HS as a 10. After verifying that the test scores for grades 11 and 12 are literally 100% in all subjects, I immediately contacted the support department at greatschools.org on January 26, 2015. Below is their reply: (GreatSchools) Jan 27, 5:15 PM Hello, This is a bug in Alabama, about which we are aware. Thanks for your patience as we look to fix it over the coming months. Max - On January 28, 2015 I requested that a manual ranking be done of the school. Not only am I a mom and Civil Rights advocate, but I am also a real estate broker who has counseled clients for years, especially those with school aged children. Greatschools.org's ranking has such an iron-clad reputation, that many clients have used the site to assist the determination of where they would purchase a home. My daughter was a 2001 graduate of LAMP and I fully believe that she could not have been better prepared for college and life. LAMP is nationally recognized as one of the top 25 schools in the nation! My daughter is now a top executive at one of the largest advertising firms in the world. Thank you, LAMP!
