My daughter is in her third year at WF Burns. This is a school that truly prioritizes the growth and well-being of its students. The administration is dedicated to creating a safe and fun learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore their interests and develop their skills. My daughter has developed a sense of pride for her school as well as vital leadership skills that she will utilize for the rest of her life.

From engaging classroom activities to supportive staff, the school fosters a culture of collaboration and creativity. Students are not only pushed academically but also encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities, which helps them build confidence and friendships. Overall, this junior high school stands out as a place where students can thrive both personally and academically. I give all credit to the Principal Andrew Leak and Assistant Principal Karla Riley for turning this school around. I have seen so much positivity from the students and parents in our community since this administration made vital changes in the day to day operations of this school. They have created a fun and engaging learning environment. Even when faced with difficult situations like the most recent firearm incident, the administrators immediately took action and made sure students and parents were aware of the situation and felt safe. The transparent communication between parents and staff ultimately makes me feel safer every day when I drop my daughter off for school. We have loved every minute of our time at WF Burns. And, I am thankful that the current leadership there has developed such a positive educational experience for our students and community after so many years of public negativity. We HAVE to continue this positive development to recruit and retain the amazing teachers we currently have on staff here.

My experience at this school is pretty good. Everyone here is pretty much nice and friendly, and the staff is amazing! If you were to ask me about the teaching the teachers do, I'd say its pretty stressful, and I don't really get what most of them are saying, but overall this school is really fun to go to and I 100% recommend this school!

They put so much hard work into what they do and really show how much they care for us and the school. I love my teachers and the hard-work they put it to make this school yearV better and better each day. They make school so FUN! I love how we can have fun and learn at the same time. We learn new things every single day. I can't wait to see what this school becomes in the next coming years!

The same students are allowed to bully over and over again

Posted: May 30, 2019

Average as compared to when I was in school

Posted: May 30, 2019

They do more than teach the curriculum and truly care!

Posted: May 30, 2019

The teachers are truly concerned with their wellbeing.

Posted: May 30, 2019

The principal treats students AND teachers with total disrespect and will do so in front of others!

Posted: May 30, 2019

I know because the teachers do care.

Posted: May 30, 2019

A nightmare to deal with the principal! I live in this small community where everyone knows everyone and people are beginning to really talk about the toxic leadership in this school! She has sooo many people believing she’s great when she really not!

Posted: May 24, 2019

Posted: May 24, 2019

Posted: May 24, 2019

Posted: February 1, 2019

Teachers are so busy having to discipline kids that the other kids are not getting an opportunity to learn.

Posted: February 1, 2019

Unless the child is searching for these characteristics or has parents teaching them, they will not learn them.

Posted: February 1, 2019

Dr. Bell has made it much better; however, when Ms. Holly was there it was very chaotic.

Posted: February 1, 2019

Homework is often overloaded and does nothing to help the students apply the knowledge.

Posted: February 1, 2019

If I could give it a negative number, I would. I learned nothing here. These were the most miserable three years of my life. The teachers did not respect me as a person, I was disregarded, and was taught nothing of value. Everything I learned during the three years I was there, I had to go home and figure out on my own.
The students were disrespectful (though, who can really blame them when they are just following the example of the adults) and often would find specific kinds of people to isolate.
This school needs more help than what I could describe in words.

I was a former student at this school, all three grades, from 2010-2013. This school has few good teachers, and all are very bias against students. Despite being the majority race, Caucasian students are very singled out against, and are treated worse than other race students. There is very little that is good about this school. One thing that is, is the music program. I myself was in the band, and students in the band have many opportunities within the group. Some of which are competitions against many statewide bands, playing for the football team on some occasions, and concerts. This school needs much work. New staff of well-trained teachers, and new principals and faculty. The academics need to be heightened, so students can learn what is needed for work life. A better disciplinary system would work greatly. Many students who want to learn, cannot do so because of troublesome students interrupting the teachers.

WF Burns is very poor. It seems that the teachers have no relationship with the children and that they are there to just pass the time. My child feels like he is attending a military school. You have to walk a straight line in the halls and no talking. I think it's poor when the children can't even interact with each other. WF Burns answer to everything is In School Suspension, which denies the children of alot if they are ever placed in ISS. Children need to be able to be themselves and not be punished for what other children do or have done in the past. Poor Principal leadership - but good assistant Principal. WAY WAY WAY too much busy homework. I agree with teaching children to be creative but let them do these creative type busy projects AT SCHOOL! That's what the teachers are there for - to help and teach them with these things. Not to send home some guidelines for the parents to have to do when it's a project that teaches a child NOTHING!!
