This school has been in operation for many years and has an excellent reputation. The children who attend develop excellent oral communication skills. They become well-rounded citizens. My son was a student there and he is now 26 years old. My granddaughter, who is 6, attends kindergarten there and is an excellent reader. I like the fact that it is a caring, nurturing, safe environment with the advantages of the activities and resources of the university. Like many other agencies, it has fiscal challenges. I wish that it had adequate funding, so that the threat of closing would not be a factor each year. This is not healthy for the students, faculty, or staff.

This is a wonderful, historic school. My child is in the kindergarten and can read at the second grade level, won the spelling bee, and has learned a lot more information about the school history and her African American background. I will always support this school, and would advise anyone to send their child to Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center.

This is a great school! The teachers and staff really develops the whole child. I am very pleased with the quality of education my child has received. If you are looking for a school that will give quality homework and truly challenge your child to their highest potential. I recommend this school. There is lots of homework and parental involvement that is required. Students are expected to perform at a high level. The children gets along well with one another. The students are involved in activities at Alabama State University. I love this school!

The Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center is a school located on the campus of Alabama State University for students Prek-3rd grade. The Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center has a population of 65 kids with approximately 15 students per grade. This makes learning much more interactive, fun and personalized. State wide recommended curriculum, technology tools and caring faculty and staff is the driving force behind why this school works. Also, many of the students who attend the Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center are admitted to the local area magnet programs. However, built in 1971 it is evident the Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center needs to be remodeled. Upgrades to the physical structure would improve consistency with technological advancements. Furthermore, the Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center needs space large enough for large programs, physical education and a lunch room. Nevertheless, all things considered the Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center is a awesome starting place for your child s learning development.

I love this childhood center!! My daughter is in Pre-K and has learned so much this school year! I am very impressed by the staff, by the teachers and the way the center is always decorated. There are numerous events held by the school keeping parents involved with their child's education. Morning care and After school care is also great! It helps to allow me to be able to pickup my child after I get off work. The quality of care is outstanding!!!
