My son goes to Weatherly Heights for preschool and they are awesome! Student/Teacher ratio works well for us and my son learned a TON while attending Weatherly Heights thanks to their great teachers and staff. Ms. Mann is truly amazing! I would highly recommend Weatherly Heights!

Wonderful for both of my boys. Both have grown in academics and in character. This is because of the excellent teachers pouring themselves into the students needs.

Weatherly Heights is a terrific school with phenomenal teachers. In a normal school year, there are a lot of ways students and families can be involved with events and clubs. Teachers go above and beyond to help nurture the love of learning and to help struggling students.

It has been a fantastic experience at Weatherly with my 3 children. It’s a great learning environment with wonderful, caring teachers who strive to ensure student success.

It's the best elementary school in HCS and one of the best in the state.

I see the principal and assistant principal always engaged with the students. They try to listen to parents complaints and comments. (They many not always agree or do something but they at least listen.) They even campaign to the Huntsville City Schools to provide more teachers when they are short.

On the one hand they make the effort to help the kids with disabilities and special abilities which private schools are not required to do but the public schools are. That puts all Huntsville City Schools ahead where learning differences come to play. On the other hand, they are barely funding this effort. Staffing is not always available when students need it since they are spread too thin. For those with special abilities I am not seeing how their abilities are being expanded.

I am beginning to not like the term bullying since the definition has changed drastically from when I was young. Anytime someone does something someone else doesn't like too often than not they are accused of bullying. Look, kids call each other names like cry baby. Good, no. Should they be told that is wrong and that they should stop. Definitely. Should we then label them a bully. No. Because, honestly, by that logic, the person labeling them a bully is calling them a name and so is by that new definition is a bully and then the person calling them out as a bully thus becomes a bully, etc., etc.. It is ridiculous. Look, kids need to learn to be nice to others but just as important and often overlooked is that they need to learn what to do when someone isn't nice to them. Telling them to name them a bully is not an effective strategy in my book. And, no, not every situation merits running to an adult to tattle.

It is one of the better schools in Huntsville and probably in the state. However, I think the Huntsville City School system has lost sight of their prime directive which is to effectively educate their students and instead spend most of their time playing political football while endangering their students' futures.

In first grade they wanted my kid to read 30 minutes a day and practice spelling. Now in 4th they just want the kids to do only 10 minutes of homework a day. The adage practice makes perfect is an adage for a reason. Maybe Huntsville City School administrators should take a page from a coach's play book and learn that practice is what makes a kid great. Also, there is no science fair here. Only Challenger Elementary has one and that is because the PTA spearheads it not the education system. The Huntsville City Schools does not believe in the sciences or handwriting for elementary students. It is only taught sporadically. The handwriting especially is an afterthought subject. And I see about two pieces of homework in those two severely underserved topics a year.

I would guestimate that over half of the teachers are good. Those that are have their hands tied by Huntsville School administration. (i.e. telling teachers not to give more than 10minutes of homework a night, requiring kids to have computers that kids play internet games on during class, not offering teacher incentives in salary, etc.) My understanding is that the teachers are paid the bare minimum in the state. If you are a great teacher why would you stay around in Huntsville when you can go to Madison (or anywhere else for that matter) and make more?

They have all these festivals and stuff to try to promote this. I am not sure how effective it is. I often wonder if they spend more time on this than educating the 3 R's. They do make the effort but there still are issues. Yet, these are kids...and they are learning. Students make mistakes that the teachers, parents, staff help them learn from in a, hopefully, positive way. I am for it as long as they don't go into being intolerant of kids making mistakes like I know some schools are envolving to be.

The school actively promotes respectful student interaction. They have a consistent message that at Weatherly there is “No Place for Hate.” There are signs throughout the school and the school dedicates a week of activities to antibullying events. The administration with the help of the PTA promote outside activities, like Weatherly Feast, to allow children an opportunity to interact in a fun and cheerful environment away from the rigors of the classroom. These events are highly anticipated and well attended. The result, is that children become familiar with each other across grade levels. Amazingly, there is a strong bond across families as well. Parents meet and become friends. The level of communication between families, PTA, teachers, and the administration keeps every informed as to the processes and goals of the school.

Weatherly is a fabulous school. We have a first grader, who is in his third year. He loves school thanks to all three magical teachers who have guided his education. As parents, we are extremely active in the school and amazed by the consistency of the school’s environment. It is a joyful place to be as the teachers and staff are happy and optimistic. They set a high standard of student interaction and expect every student to be respectful of their peers. The PTA at the school is an active and engaging partner. The PTA board is prolific and works very hard to add to the efforts of the administration. We cannot imagine a more caring and friendly community than Weatherly.

This is my daughters second year here and she loves it!!! I as a parent think it is a GREAT school. They are really helping her with her speech and reading difficulties. The school is in a good location, I feel safe knowing she is well watched.

My school is Weatherly Hieghts Elementary and it's a great school. My son started there in Kindergarden and he is now in 2nd grade. The teachers are very nice and kind and helpful to everyone. Always doing fun, exciting and educational activities for the whole family. At Weatherly, we feel like one big happy family. They DEFINENTLY Go The Extra Mile.

Have been very happy with this school. They have gone out of their way to help my child succeed. The dpeech therapist and his teacher have been wonderful!

We moved to this school from out of state, we looked on great schools to helps us determine the school to choose. The principal is unwilling to work with new families attempts to bully the parents into not being at the school, she has yelled at students in the hall. The teachers don't seem to care or take into consideration the whole child. They tell my children to not tell me what is going on in their class. My first grader got in trouble and was in the wrong, but was put in the corner and then sent to a pre-k class this is a form of bullying via humiliation. Our family has dealt with racism and bullying since we entered this school. We have met with the principal and things do not seem to change. The children are yelled at and and slapped. I will be removing them from this school for next year. I am shocked at the behavior of the adults at this school, my children are afraid to go to school and explain that they do not feel safe. The school allows the children to watch movies during free time instead of encouraging creativity. The PE teacher calls the children WEENIES if they don't win, even if the students aren't bullying the adults are, which is worse!
