Nothing but fights and lazy teachers who don't do anything about it. Principle should be fired for running basically a ***tshow there.
If you can go somewhere else, DO!

My family loves Whitesburg Middle School! The teachers and staff are helpful, friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and skilled at instructing kids of all learning levels. My kids have received hand-on, tailored instruction that meets their reading, math, science, and social studies level, allowing them to excel in their academics. The PTA is active and growing, providing fun activities and opportunities for parents to engage, along with support for teachers and staff. The school offers all kinds of athletics, choir, band, and even options for theater performances, allowing students to engage in a wide variety of extracurricular activities! I can't recommend it enough!

Whitesburg Middle School is a great place to work and learn. This is my second year as principal over the middle school. Whitesburg P-8 doesn't exist anymore. It went away with the split several years ago making all the P-8 schools, elementary and middle, separate. We currently have 6th -8th grade. There are 548 students currently. Our teachers are dedicated, caring professionals who put student needs at the forefront. Academically, we have room to grow and are doing just that. We are heading in the right direction. Our movement this year on the state report card put us at a C. The growth and proficiency increase we are seeing puts us on track to move in a big way in the year to come. We are moving in the right direction on attendance as well. Other indicators are a big focus to help us increase our scores. The addition of soccer has enhanced our athletics, and we look forward to the possibility of adding baseball and softball in the near future. Our track teams won 1st in the city last year and we compete very well in all sports.

After looking at this data on Whitesburg P-8, I have a little concern with the validity of what is posted:
Four years ago, Whitesburg P-8 split and became two separate schools Whitesburg Elementary and Whitesburg Middle.
My children are in Whitesburg Elementary and the progress, scores, ethnicity, etc. are all wrong on this site.
The elementary principal has regular parent meetings sharing the schools data and it is totally different than what is being reported here. I know the data that the principal reports is correct because you can check this data on ALSDE.
You can tell from the comments in the reviews listed here are all middle school reviews.
Elementary has a great principal, very responsive, and communicates regularly. Discipline is very consistent and the BLG is followed.
My children love the teachers, the principal, and the school. I am glad we are a part of the Whitesburg Elementary Family!

We have not had a good experience overall. There are a growing number of lazy and spoiled teachers who are just there to collect a paycheck. Every now and then you might get a good teacher, but there are few. Administration is not helpful and will hold your child hostage in class and not move them even though it is for their benefit. Can't wait to get my children out of this school!

Horrible bullying including from the teachers. Terrible teacher and administrative organization.

Our principal and assistant principals offer excellent leadership. They support and encourage teachers, know students by name, and are actively engaged in the daily activity of the school.

Our school has a wide range of student abilities and needs. There are many ways that these are being addressed, although I would love to see our entire district do better in this area.

We have had a wonderful experience at Whitesburg School and are happy to be a part of this community.

Our children have had appropriate amounts of homework for each grade level. Teachers typically use it to reinforce/practice what is being taught in class.

Every teacher we've had has been good. I love that they are undergoing regular training to learn new curricula and new ways to teach effectively.

Teachers, counselors, and administration encourage students to respect staff and other students, and they help teach ways to solve problems in an appropriate manner.

Excellent! The children feel safe and are ready to learn.

Clear expectations and good communication between faculty, caregivers, and staff.

Character word of the month is practiced daily in the school. Good mentor ship!

We've had a great experience. The leadership of the school with Dr. Scott, Mrs. Jones and Mr. King is fantastic. They are very invested and involved and it shows. The teachers want to see their students succeed.

The school overall was okay. The principal is great. We felt like the school, along with other city schools, relied too much on the parents doing the real teaching. We also felt that most all the teaching was done online, so as a result, we elected to enroll our child in Alabama Connections Academy (online). We are all very satisfied with ALCA. It is more convenient and the learning process is very smooth. Child is now challenged, enjoys learning, and has a better attitude. Lastly, she is no longer bullied. We felt the aggressive attitude of some students caused many problems. Our child also had her laptop broken several times by other students and had a new cell phone stolen.

I feel like the teachers at this school have their hands full and as a result there is a lot of wasted time.

We have really enjoyed our time at WP8.
Posted: July 22, 2018
Teachers are free to assign homework as they see fit. Most elementary teachers send home a packet. Some send daily sheets. Middle school can be project based but most students have ample time to finish in class.

I have a 7th grader at Whitesburg and have been really pleased with his experience there. We have a new principal who is a great leader. Construction has just begun on our new building and we are excited about that. The new building is expected to be completed in 2015. The teachers and staff are warm and welcoming.

My daughter is a 7th grader at Whitesburg this year and since Mr. Hicks has left the school has gone downhill. I am very disappointed with how disorganized everything is from academics and athletics. I pray the new principal gets it together before this year ends, because I am seriously considering enrolling my daughter elsewhere. I've talked with several other parents who are on the same page as I.
