Our experience with this school was nothing short of a nightmare. I have never been one to make excuses but only keep it real. This place has a serious bullying issue like no other. The thing with larger cities, is they will nip it in the bud but here they pretend like it does not exist. The good ole boy program definitely exists in this county and if you do not believe me, all you have to do is google the school to see the issues that they have had over the past several years. If you are an educated person or military person, do not send your child to this school. There really is no structure and order. If your child is bullied and they stand up for themselves, then they will be the one crucified.....not the bullies (speaking from first hand knowledge). Hindsight is 20/20 and I would have definitely moved into Madison County vs. Limestone.

I am also a current student at this school and I just have to say that when kids get the Chromebook there is nothing to charge it with so when some one is doing work at home and your computer dies how are you going to charge it. On the bus this morning a person had to have a clear back pack because he was caught with vapes. Over all this school suck it smell their are mice in some of the classrooms and it just really sucks.

I am a current student that goes there and I will tell you my experience. The school is extremely unsanitary, fights are very frequent, drugs are an issue, girls are not allowed to go in their locker room or one of their bathrooms (it's bolted shut.) We are not allowed to use the restroom during instructional times because of fighting, we can only use it when there is an emergency.

Most staff do not effectively handle bullying and harassment. They have very little money and seem to only care about their sports/football teams, not the education of students.

The current superintendent has no leadership skills and is to afraid of political backlash to even put in a mask mandate for our children and the community. We are in the midst of the worst part of the pandemic and still they only mask mandate on a school bus yet not in the systems. Not to mention there is no transparency on how many kids and or staff have tested positive. Madison County and City Schools have theirs listed. We have been in school for almost three weeks and every week we have been told our child has been exposed.

The teachers have been excellent but we need all brand new leadership. Strong, kind and compassionate leadership.

I graduated from East Limestone. My experience was awesome. I feel like it is what you make of it. If you walk around thinking you are better than everyone else, then you will not have many friends. If you get involved in extra curricular activities especially band or any sport then you will always have a group of friends from different age groups. There were not the niche groups like "jocks", "preps", "nerds", etc. Everyone knew each other and I had friends in every room and in every hall. There were a few fights while I attended; but, nothing that was unprovoked. Just boys and girls that couldn't shut up and walk away. I never had any issues with anyone and never got into any trouble. I never felt like I had to keep my head down or hide like some people have described. Just teach your kid to not be a jerk and they won't have issues. I feel like I got the same treatment from the school that you can expect from the real world. If you want to have friends, you will, and if you don't have friends then there is a reason. No one is out to get you. Be honest with other kids about what you are into and what you like and you will find a group that is into the same thing. This school is where I met some of the best people that I think I ever will and I plan on keeping them close for the rest of my life. There were a lot of smart, kind, and insanely talented people around me everyday. Take the spot light off yourself and give praise and respect to the people around you. Don't be a jerk and don't act like you are the greatest thing to ever walk on planet earth. If you are great at something, be modest and let other people give you the praise. Don't be gross about it and constantly seek attention. Just chill out and be cool and you will have a great time. That is the key to having a great experience at this school. I loved it and I wouldn't trade my time there for anything or anywhere else.

On an academic note at one point in middle school I was in a learning disabled class for reading. The school kept it quiet and I just went to the assigned room until I got caught up. I graduated with a standard diploma and I got into college with no issues. I scored perfectly on my placement tests allowing me to skip all of the classes that were possible. I did zero extra studying for the tests and only took with me what a standard non-AP education gave me from the school. It worked out and they did their job in that regard. I'm thankful for East Limestone and what it gave me.

Overall we have had a positive experience at East Limestone. Our daughter is now a chemistry major at UAB with an A average and will graduate next year. Our son has special needs and required an aide. I have had to advocate for him and with lots of support he is also graduating this year. Mostly great teachers, just a few duds like any school.

They assign homework during breaks. They don't seem to realize or care that not everyone is from this area and they need this time to head home and be with family. A break should be a break.

East limestone is the absolute WORST school my child has ever attended. Due to my husband and I being prior military, my son who is now in 6th grade, has attended numerous schools over the last few years. East Limestone has by far exceeded in possibly taking the number 1 spot for "Absolute WORST School" this school either A.) needs a whole new team of staff, or B.) needs to be SHUT DOWN!!!
My son went from making A/B to D/F the first semester of school. Bullying is TERRIBLE there with the teachers kids and family members of the school being the worst kids of the group. Politics is a MAJOR problem in the east limestone community. If your child did not go to school there since kindergarten or if you as a parent are not completely spending all your free time volunteering in the schools, then you are not welcome to the area and your child is treated terrible. My child use to love school and has spent the last 2 months coming home crying everyday and trying to act sick so he doesn't have to go to school. I tried speaking with the new middle school principal, where I got NO where. I tried speaking with the Board of Education, where I got NO where. I received a doctors note for my child that states "he is NOT to return to school due to dangerous conditions". You wonder what these dangerous conditions are, the middle school doors are NOT locked and just to get to the middle school office, you have to go through a set of doors and walk next to children's lockers to even get to the office. There is an actual door that leads to the office that you are not allowed to use. These buildings are NOT secure. Also 6th graders and 12th graders are NOT separated like they so call claim they are. The filter on the internet only blocks porn sites but they are allowed to get on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media which also consist of inappropriate material. The personally issued laptops should ONLY be issued to 9th graders or higher grades. A 6th grader has no business having a personally issued laptop. When I told them I did NOT want my child having the laptop, they told me he would not succeed without it. What happened to books, paper, pencils, computer labs, and library's? Due to all these issues, my son is now in a private school receiving a top of the line education. AVOID living in east limestone if your moving to the area. Madison County is much BETTER!!!

East Limestone is an excellent school and the students have so many opportunities to get involved. I have had two children graduate from East and they both had wonderful experiences there.

Our child previously attended the preceding Creekside Elementary which has great management/leadership, challenges students and overall grades excellent with us. However, East Limestone is pale in comparison! From an outsider that has seen quality educational programs in various cities/states, East Limestone is no even on the map. Sure it is certainly a percentage of finances that is holding this school back, but truly it is a mismanaging of funds/priorities, a cultural lackadaisical attitude and lack of vision. The principal is just now retiring after 30 years (classic tenure, not merit) so hopefully there is about to be a significant philosophical calibration here. This school needs to stop worrying about being "so nice" and concentrate on prepping students for real collegiate success. Aggressive and progressive leadership is sorely needed at this school now. We are seriously considering bearing the significant cost increase to move our children to the Madison City schools. They have vision, significant budget, diverse staff and much greater % of engineer/military background parents in Madison. East Limestone has small town super nice staff, but does nice promote success?

I have heard so many good things about East Limestone High. I am glad my children will be able to attend in the next few years!
