From Day 1 we have felt at home at this school (started in K). It has been a caring environment, effective communication, and excellent teachers. I appreciate the leadership of the administration and their focus on continued improvement, bringing joy to the halls, challenging their teachers and students, and getting to know students and parents. I have also appreciated the parent involvement and opportunities to get involved as a parent.
During the pandemic they went above and beyond daily to help everyone stay healthy and educated. They continue to evolve from Covid safely, and look for new and exciting ways to engage and teach our children. Having had a daughter go K - 8th, and still having a son there, I highly recommend this school! #grateful #HappinessIsHolySouls #InGoodHands

Holy Souls is a school filled with LOVE! I have 2 kids here and would not think about sending them anywhere else. The education they are receiving is the best of the best. We love Holy Souls School.

Amazing school, top to bottom. They have completely turned around their Junior High program and I would argue it is now one of the best in the city. Fabulous Junior High teachers and the only school that offers student choice for specialties at the middle school level. They also have a new STEM Lab and renewed focus on incorporating STEM in the primary classrooms. Plus, post-pandemic they have a whole program focusing on social-emotional development and catching up students where they might have lost socially with peer-to-peer relationship skills during virtual learning. I am not a Holy Souls grad or even an Arkansas native, but we have been welcomed and included at every turn, so not really sure what happened to the reviewer who claims nepotism. We are SO happy our kids go to school here, would not trade our experience for anything.

Nepotism is a common practice here. Not only within the education system but also extra curriculum activities. We have experienced one disappointment after another with this school. If we had to start over we would pick a different school.

I had two children attend for parts of both elementary and middle school. I found the program for primary grades to be excellent, but starting in 3rd grade, they increase the class size to 30 students which is too many. One of my children managed okay, but the other did not. Some of the teachers were excellent but there were wide inconsistencies. Junior high grades (7-8) does not allow for any kind of class choice, nor create transcripts that allow for any advanced work for high school freshmen unless the student is continuing in catholic high school.

More homework than comparable grade levels in the area. Homework is sometimes overwhelming busy-work. My daughter had more homework in regular 7th grade classes at HSS than she does taking 4 AP classes as a junior in high school.

Inconsistent— some excel, some are barely competent.

They develop very Catholic-centric character. The tone of the school can sometimes have holier-than-thou culture if you are not Catholic.

There is a teacher in place who handles kids who might have issues such as would be on a 504 plan in public school, and she does well, but many of the classroom teachers are either unwilling or unable to follow through on accommodations, likely due to the too large classes.

From Pre-K to 4th grade, my child was more than a number. My child was nurtured and taught in a way that made my child feel empowered and successful. Beginning in 5th grade, that attitude changed considerably. I am disgusted by the teachers' poor attitudes and lack of communication. There is more to my child's education than grades and responsibility. Part of being an intelligent, responsible human should include a good attitude, being nice, and demonstrating mercy.

In my home, parents develop the character of their children. As mine have gotten older, I've had to re-teach some character traits demonstrated by the teachers to the students during school.

Many lies were told from my classmates to their teachers, regarding homework, tests, and their treatment towards other students.

I went to school here for 10 years, or from pre-k through 8th grade, and in the younger grades the teachers were great, but as I entered into the junior high (mainly 8th grade) half of my core teachers were borderline incompetent and that year the science program was terrible and I learned very little in that class throughout the year. As in most schools older students divided into cliques, I will say I was not in the more popular clique because of my timidity and who my friends were. It was quite irritating not feeling welcome by my fellow classmates, and while very little bullying took place, school did not always seem as a safe place to be. While most teachers were potentially unaware they seemed to favor the more outgoing kids as opposed to the students like myself who did not talk during class except to answer or ask a question (which is what I thought was acceptable to do). Throughout my time at holy souls I made mostly A's but in younger grades some B's, so if you do your work and study a good grade is not hard to come by with the right teacher.

A great school with a long history in Little Rock. It preps students for Catholic High School and Mount Saint Mary (two Catholic High Schools in Little Rock with a long standing tradition of excellence). My kids are getting a great education along with exceptional character instruction.

I have 2 kids in Holy Souls School (1st and 7th grade). There is a great family atmosphere at the school. You can tell that the staff really loves the kids and that everything they do is for the kids. My kids love the school. It is true that cliques form pretty early just like at every other school. Usually the wealthy kids vs everyone else, but there is also the 'jocks' vs non-jocks. The same happened when I was in the LRSD. The one complaint that I have is that the level of homework from 3rd grade on is massive. Expect your kid to have a few hours of homework nightly and on the weekends. We find that we are planning our life around our 7th graders homework. Like any other school there are a few mediocre teachers, but the majority of the teachers are great. We are happy at Holy Souls (even as non-catholics).

Both of my children attended this school. The early grades are great, however from 5th onward this school is below average in terms of education and environment. The 5th and sixth grade teachers are mediocre at best. The junior high kids are subjected to a "popular" cliques . They even refuse to "go out" with a kid who is not in their clique. They are snobby and rude and the teachers are a part of the problem. I would recommend the school for elementary age, but move your child to a different school in junior high.
