Most of the teachers are very effective and spend a lot of their time outside of class preparing ways to make a more effective learning experience for their students.
They all spend a disproportionate amount out of pocket to enhance what the school provides for the classrooms because they are dedicated to their profession and their students.

This school is somewhat light in requiring work outside of the classroom.
A middle school student should not be unreasonably burdened with heavy assignments every night, but there could be a better balance than in this school.

It is difficult to instill these qualities in teens who have not been exposed to them at home or in previous learning environments.
Mayflower Middle School has a Principal who has a natural knack for communicating with young people. He is lovingly firm, and the students understand that he wants wonderful things in life for them.
There are posters everywhere, regular talks, and contests stressing development of positive attributes that include honesty, integrity, fairness, kindness, and tolerance among all students and staff.

The few teachers who keep the school from getting an overall five-star rating are still adequate to above average and outperform peers from other districts similarly situated. Most of the teachers are excellent, incredibly dedicated professionals, especially the ones in the lower middle grades.
The Principal is A-1 and deals wonderfully with important issues: academic achievement, campus safety, individual attention to each and every student, encouraging good citizenship, non-bullying, respecting diversity, and social and activities inclusion of special needs students.
The maintenance/janitorial employees are among the best you will find in any school. They go above and beyond their job requirements, know every student in the school by name and genuinely care about them. It shows.
This school is in a low income area and does an excellent job within its limited resources. If it were better funded, there is no telling what it could achieve.
