I have had 2 children go to Lisa Academy North Elementary. My experience with the teaching staff has been decent. My only issue with the education received is that the students are taught to the standardized tests, which in my opinion does not do the children justice. The children are not acutally learning but memorizing information only for that particular test.
This school year, my youngest had an accident on the playground which required stitches and no one could tell me what happened to cause such an injury to her face. According to the Dean of Discipline, they checked the camera footage and what ever happened occurred in a blind spot on the playground. So, needless to say, I was not and still am not pleased by this.
Communication is a big factor, yes it has improved over the last 5 years, but it is still not the best. Parents are notified of things the week of the events taking place if it is not some sort of festival. The teacher to student ration is very high (do not believe what they say). There are 25 children in my daughter's class and only 1 teacher. They do not have a teachers aide to assist with classes this large.

My son attends kindergarten here and has had the best experience so far! We love his teacher, Mrs.Bailey. She goes out of her way to make him feel seen and understood. Im so glad he has her as his teacher.

Both of my children have attended LISA North for two years and so far, we love it! The supply lists are longer and yes, we have to buy custom uniform shirts... but the quality education my kids are receiving makes it well worth it.

My two kids are currently attending this school, I only have great things to say about the teachers and staff. Always helpful when report card time gets closer they make sure theyre current with their assignments. I dont get why other parents love to vent only their bad experiences if you dont like it go somewhere else and leave the spot for those who really want a great education for their kids. I prefer Lisa north over any other public school around the area. Also if you expect not to spend money on school supplies or uniforms this aint the right school for you, their supply lists is long but I do not regret a single dollar Ive spend, I know my kids are making good use of everything I buy for them. Lisa also offers after care and after school tutoring for those who need it.

I have a boy that goes there and he's been picked on by four other boys all year and it's getting worse, it's affecting him at home and he's starting to not like going to school, he's always loved going, but nothing is being done, words is all I hear... They say something will be done, I've heard that all year, but yet it continues day after day. It's gone on too long, it's time the legal system gets involved. I really thought this was a great school, having second thoughts about this.maybe it's just Lisa Academy North !!! His teacher has no control over her class I've seen it twice. it's sad that this is going on and nothing is being done !!!!!

I am outraged at Lisa North. They give you a map on how to drop off your child and where to park. It is crammed regardless if you do either or. They keep a gate locked. They do not allow you to walk your kids thru the gate even during bad weather. They have a pedestrian walk way painted on the asphalt that they do not allow you to use. They turn you away and tell you to either get in line with the rest of the parents dropping off their kids or to walk around the fence with your child to drop them off.

I proposed them unlock the gate and let kids thru due to them being wet, cold and possibly getting sick and that this is why they have a pedestrian walk. They ignored me. When I brought up parents breaking down waiting on them to get to the front of the school in line to drop off their kids; they still ignored me. I brought up their own school policy of parking and dropping off kids; they ignored me. Most of all when I brought up their attendance and tardiness policies they told me they were following protocol.

My reasoning. Your policy is kids be on time, neat, clean, dry and no absences or at least few. They are causing kids to be tardy, nasty, wet and sometimes absent! Parents are late to work, some parents have to park due to having older vehicles that will overheat while waiting in line. They have the gate locked to the pedestrian walk way and force parents and kids to walk all the way around their facility to get their kids to school! Then the kids are wet, dirty and now cold due to them having to walk all the way around. Then the potential comes up that the kids will get sick because of the supposed protocol.

IF THE SCHOOL HAS THAT PROTOCOL THEN WHEY DO THEY HAVE A GATE? WHY DO THEY TELL THE PARENTS WHERE IS OK TO PARK AND BRING KIDS IN; WITH A MAP? IT IS NOT FAIR FOR THEM TO ALLOW STAFF TO WALK THRU BUT NO ONE ELSE!

I spoke with the assistant principle a day the principle about this. They both said it was protocol and ignored me.

They are making our kids sick! I AM NOT A PERSON TO GIVE BAD RATINGS BUT THIS SCHOOL TAKES THE CAKE AT TERRIBLE FOR SUPPOSED PROTOCOL.

My oldest kiddo was bullied at his previous school and wanted nothing to do with school. He still is not happy going to school, but its not like I'm sending off to some punishment now. Teachers are responsive to the students and we as parents are informed every day via phone apps/online postings of homework due, class grades, etc. He is much happier in this school.

My little girl started Kindergarten this year, and the teachers have been awesome. She loves them. They keep us informed via Class Dojo and post pictures of things. One of the coolest things I have seen is they bring in older kids, 9th graders for example, and have reading time with them and writing time. All grades are sharing with each other and building bonds. Great school.

Teachers care about their students and are committed to a high level education. My child's teacher uses a great app called class dojo so we can communicate constantly.

We have been involved at this campus since the first year it opened. My oldest attended 1-6th grades and my youngest is currently in her 5th year here. I have been pleased and thankful for every teacher my girls have had and have been privileged to have personal relationships with many of the staff and faculty. I understand the small classes and limited extracurriculars May not be for everybody, which is why we transferred my oldest out for middle/high. But I think the elementary is superb.

With all due respect unless your a teacher you have know idea what it is like. Teachers can't just teach anymore because half the time they are having to correct student behavior because it is not getting done at home. It is well said by many that Teaching is one of the hardest jobs with the lowest pay! There is no perfect teacher/school as there is no perfect parent. My child attends Lisa and the teachers and staff are always helpful and do the best they can. Lets all make the choice to do our part the best we can do make every student successful.

I too have children at Lisa Academy North, one has been here 5 years and the other 3. I have read all of the comments that have been posted and I disagree with a lot of the negative statements made. Of course there are things that Lisa North could improve, I am sure that there aren't ANY schools that can claim that they are perfect! In response to the post on August 4, 2015 where the community member stated that "the kindergartner teacher who became the Dean of Discipline" didn't have a loving caring personality....both of my children were in her kindergarten class and loved her. She was a fantastic teacher who more than cared for both of my children, neither of whom are perfect in regards to behavior and education. This educator was amazing as a teacher and fair as the Dean of Discipline (even when my child has done something wrong). My spouse and I have had issues with some educational and discipline policies, but instead of venting online about them, we have taken them up the proper chain of command. We appreciate all of the staff, and plan to keep our children in Lisa until they either graduate or until we feel that the school is no longer a good fit. Both of my children are happy and learning here....and that is what counts!

My daughter got dentention for falling asleep in class. It didn't matter that she's in a sleep study, or take medication for her condition, or that she wears a special watch that tracks her sleep pattern, or that the teacher and i had to keep a journal, or that i brought a stack of paperwork proving this, or that she stayed over night at the hospital so they could study her sleep pattern, the fact remains that if there isn't a diagnosis stating YES THIS IS WHY SHE'S FALLING ASLEEP, it doesn't matter to them. My son has to repeat the 8th grade because he has some failing grades. He spent a lot of time in the hospital this year. He does have a blood disorder(Sickle Cell), which he's sick a lot. Seems like i had to constantly prove everything over and over with each time being with a different staff member. Summer school for middle schoolers are only available if you fail 1 class ONLY. The receptionist called me by phone to tell me my son would be retained in the 8th grade. No paperwork, info, or anything. Thourhout the school year he had 3 different Spanish teachers, billed me $200 for club fees which i had to prove that this was incorrect, one teacher emailed me to tell me she couldn't controll her class, and she didn't know what to do at this point. In the middle of the school year, the math teacher decided to put certain kids in a different math class. Asked her what was this based off of and she stated it was too many students in one class, but according to my son most of one race was in one class and the other race was in her class. I asked her why was this and she stated she didn't realize that until i mentioned it.. Yeah Right! Both my kids are good students. Never any problems until they started this school. Most teachers have strong accents that you cant understand. This was the worst mistake ever letting them attend this school!!!!!!!

This is the worst school my daughter has ever attended. The Elementary teachers' education/knowledge is questionable. They play favorites. My daughter was bullied incessantly by other students and by the kindergarten and first grade teachers. She has a mental disability and when advised, the teachers behavior still did not improve and the faculty refused to provide us with a 504 plan. They "forgot" to send her to get pictures made and in the class picture she is the only child disheveled looking bc no one bothered to straighten her hair before the picture. This place is a nightmare and parents are expected to teach the work with huge packets of homework they know nothing about the material because they listened to music and watched movies all day, while the teachers take every other day off. If you love your children and do not work at this school don't send your child here.

Many of the teachers are not certified. Most of the Elementary teachers I have noticed are verbally abusive to the children. They either let the kids run wild, or are entirely too strict. I would not recommend this school to elementary, middle, or high school students.

Lisa has been a pure disaster for my children. It is controlled by one administrator and staffed with underpaid stressed teacher. If your child us in the k,1,2 ,they will nit learn until 3rd grade. The best teachers are they teachers that there test count. K-2 teachers arr always inconsistent and not experienced. The school is ran my administration and it seems to be very cold. I have been here 4 years and it is worse every year. The kids have been promised a playground and all they have is a blacktop concrete.

I am a student at this school I hate it so much the teachers treat me badly the dean is just awful and the kids is horrible this school makes me so mad I was at school crying because my parents made me go to the school then I was gone run away so I didn't have to go to tr school everyone in my class was crying talking about they didn't wanna go there and I tried to be strong for them but I couldn't now my parents are making me go there again I hate this school ughhh please don't put your kid in this school it's a bad idea

This is our 4th year. We continue to be dedicated to our child's academic success and we are met by her teachers. They have been kind, generous, encouraging, and strict. Each of these traits serve the children and enable them to reach closer to their potential. We have had several social/instructional opportunities for the parents to learn how to help our children learn. I see the same parents and kids at each event. While the school has challenges (what group of more th)an 2 doesn't), it is not safety, nor is it lack of talented, caring, dedicated teachers. I would recommend it.

This school has been amazing for my son. His behavior, grades, and attitude have all had unbelievable positive changes. I think had he stayed in the public school system he would just be an average C student. At Lisa, the teachers work with him and help him to reach his full potential. His grades have went from almost straight C's to almost straight A's. The teachers communicate with the parents on a regular basis, and its definitely more personalized than the public school system. I am very happy with Lisa and feel it has had a positive effect on my child. This school has MANY opportunities for parent involvement. I can not think of anything bad to say about this school.

My husband and I felt privileged that our daughter was accepted into this school. So far the curriculum has been great however the appearance of the school on the outside looks awful. There is trash laying on the ground everywhere which gives the impression that it's ok to just throw your trash on the ground. The outside of the school should be represented better than that since it is what gives a person the first impression of the kids environment. Not to mention the example it sets. Hopefully things will improve.

My children are in 5th and 4th grade at LISA Academy North. They have both attended since kindergarten. This school is a safe, caring, family-oriented environment. It is academically challenging. LISA also has grades through the 12th. These older kids are the nicest, best group of young men and women you could ever desire to be around your younger children. I have never felt unsafe or uncomfortable there. And neither have my kids. The teachers and staff are professional, accommodating, and friendly. They also mean business when it comes down to learning. I am so grateful that this is where my children get to go to school.

My daughter and son both attend this school. They love their teachers and enjoy going to school. I volunteer approx 3 hours a week at the school and am impressed with the dedication of the staff and discipline of the students. From what I have noticed, any incident that can be considered as bullying are taken care of promptly. I plan on letting both of my children finish high school at LISA North.

I feel so fortunate to teach at a school where the children come to school ready and eager to learn, the teachers and administrators are supportive, professional, and caring, and the parents are actively involved and committed to their children's overall educational success. As a student at LISA Academy- North, I can truly say that I have had a wonderful experience at LISA. I am President of the National Honor Society as well as a participant in National History Day. As the President and a member of the National Honor Society, I have had a life changing and learning experience by getting out and helping others in my community. LISA Academy- North has also been great with reaching out to the community and helping others! This past school year I went to the National History Day- National Competition in Washington D.C. and I received great support from my school in helping me to get there. The teachers at LISA Academy are also extraordinary! Our teachers are always willing to offer up their time to help a student during club and aftercare time. LISA Academy offfers many different programs that are very beneficial to their students. LISA Academy- North is a wonderful school and I am so fortunate to have spent my middle and high school years here!

This school is not for the lazy or undisciplined parent and child. My daughter is entering the 3rd grade and recently tested in the top 6% of the Nation for kids her age in an independent study. Thank you LISA!You get out what you put in to the education from Lisa. Parent participation is great at thsi school. The staff is a pleasure to work with and very attentive to my daughters personal and educational needs.

As a public school teacher I know what I need for my children academically. Honestly, it was not public school. LISA was a great blessing for us. Yes, it is a tough curriculum, but I love that. The teachers have been fantastic and I love all of the clubs and programs offered. More opportunities might be available w public school, but for our children, we would not trade LISA for anything!!

My son went here in Kindergarten and I could not wait until the day that I could get him out of there. I disliked everything about this school and it was obvious my son was unhappy. My son's teacher did not communicate well, they made all kinds of grading mistakes and I just felt the environment was more of a bootcamp than a school. I noticed my son got a zero on an assignment about 2 months after the fact and when I questioned his teacher she said "Oh he didn't understand so I moved on". I never got any notes or an email about anything happening and don't even get me started on how unorganized they are. Thankfully I got my son into a great public school and I can see how much more progress he is making and how much happier he is. He LOVES going to school now.

There is a major lack of discipline in this school. The teachers have no idea how to handle children and do nothing to enforce good behavior. My son entered kindergarten as a well behaved child and 3 semesters in is a totally different child that constantly gets in trouble (at school...not at home). Every day he is getting hit (and of course hitting back) and they are doing nothing to stop the behavior. It is just left up to us to punish him when he gets home. I know he is not happy there because it is so different than being at home in a structured environment where he knows he is expected to behave and follow our rules. We are taking him out for this last 9 weeks and re enrolling him in the public school where he attended pre-k. The public school does not test as high, but all of the children are so well behaved and the teachers know how to run a classroom! He was so excited to return to Terry Elementary and he does not even want to finish the school year at Lisa Academy. He has learned a lot, but obviously craves a more structured environment. And there is way too much pressure put on grades for a kindergartener!!
