We have been with Lakewood Elementary since Kindergarten. Overall the teacher and staff did a great job! Communication, education, and the school culture was great. I would be proud to tell any parent that it's a great school.

This is my grandson first year attending Lakewood Elementary. His experience in the classroom was very unpleasant. Even after speaking with the principal about removing him and placing him in another classroom it wasn’t taken seriuosly. My grandson had to keep attending a class that he felt uncomfortable in adding to emotional stress that impaired his academic studies. They are now trying to retain him back to Kindergarten despite him previously excelling in pre k prior ro him attending the school. Upon speaking with the principal she became very abrasive when asked questions and stated she stand behind her teacher's no matter what. She has express that she stay firm in her decision in failing my grandson back to kindergarten despite he has until the third grade to where retention could be a possibility. My grandson was doing fine before attending this school. Concerns were not met instead they were not taking seriously. The principal didnt display herself as being neutral to be open minded of anything we said instead she became bias and said no matter what she will stand with her teachers. This is disappointing as a grandmother and as a mother to feel that when it comes to our children we dont have any say so. We must be ok with decisions that we feel isn't right. Please do your research about this school before your child attends.

Only thing I like about this school is the education part ! They do great with teaching but when it comes to be professional, understanding and organized they lack all of that and very rude ! Never handle any situations you bring up to them.

To the contrary. This school allows bullying.

There are wonderful teachers at this school. Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Lipton are amazing!

My child is twice exceptional. In addition to a very high IQ my child has dyslexia and a math learning disability. This school failed to test for dyslexia and failed to provide services after I paid for my own testing. They also refused GT placement (my child's IQ is 145 and he is definitely gifted by every measure). Finally my child was bullied to the point that he was attacked on the playground. Twice. The school took no action. I know people who have had a wonderful experience with this school. Unfortunately my family's experience was pretty rotten.

Racism IS alive and well in this school. My child was so horribly bullied at this school by adults, including the principal, that we chose to move to a different school and neighborhood. We are not a family of color - but I did see the racism referred to in the other post. There is an interesting system here that is easy to see. There are A, B and C teachers. A teachers and classroom are easily identifiable by the "best" and most connected families. B teachers and classrooms are reserved for the students and families who haven't quite proven their worth or value to Ms. Logan. C students/classrooms are for families who question and are trouble makers. We were in an A classroom but watched this happen - and watched what happened when we called it out. Very interesting social observations here. Would definitely not recommend this school for serious or mature families - or for students with special needs, rather that is GT or lower performing. I'll never forget when the principal apparently thought I would think it "cool" that she was able to be home in time for a nap by 3:30. Sadly, the great teachers - many of them "B" - feel bullied as well. Toxic place.

Awesome school!!!! My daughter had an amazing teacher!! Very concerned about the children but also their family!!! This school does everything they can to involve family activities and being involved with your child/children/learning etc, which my older child went to crystal hill for 3 years and now having the experience with my daughter in "K" at Lakewood has me thanking God for this move and school. The principal (Logan) also amazing! If u don't like your child on a routine, structured, or having manners/good behavior then yea this isn't the school for the parent, anyway! Politics are everywhere. As a parent we should know how to deal with it already. I never once felt my daughter or myself were treated any different b/c of money Only improvement that the school needs, will be completed soon! YAY 2014-15

Racism is alive and well in this school. If you child is white and has money, they will be treated very well.

Not a good school school for children that need a little extra help. Parents, if your child has dyslexia, please avoid this school.
