Beautiful campus with a quality teaching staff. The kids love the location and can walk to Safeway, Starbucks, or McDonalds after school ends.

Horrific
1 kid got lost in the shuffle and all I got were notices about missing classes and never a phone call letter or meeting
1 kid had 3 As and 3 Bs and because he was a competitive gymnast missed over the 11 allotted sick days so was failed...BTW he’s at West Point now no thanks to this school but Presidio school a charter down the road.
My twins have to endure online schooling because teachers are to frightened to enter school but not too frightened to stand in the middle of the roadway and protest Redfored to get more money to spew their communist manifesto
So sick of this awful school and can’t wait until my girls graduate so I can give them a big middle finger and move to a place where they will be enriched versus indoctrinated

The bullying here is truly disgusting because it is hidden from adults and happens EVERYWHERE. Kids being excommunicated by friends, fights directly out of school, the snobby rich kids badgering the less fortunate, you have it all.

As a person of color, it's SO hard here. It's MAJORLY white so any point of view for a cultured child, is honestly the worst. You get stereotyped by these sheltered white children who pester you and your culture with questions. If you like being able to be seen as a legitmate human, go to a different school. The school clearly has a thing or two for defending racism, but as far as education goes, it's fantastic. Plenty of classes and options for your intelligent child. Finally, being low-income, as you might hear, SUCKS at this school. It's horrific, the amount of snobbiness. 10/10 on education, -42/10 on social system.

As a low income student with a long commute to school, I have been treated awful. I would never send an under-privileged student here with hopes of getting ahead in education.

Adequate education. Math Dept. clearly needs improvement--many kids failing Math. This high school is clean and safe. There is a good selection of extra-curricular activities. This school is similar to many others in Tucson and provides a satisfactory education.

The "Preview" Method of teaching math is absolutely the worst method I have ever encountered in education. Basically, the student is supposed to teach themselves. There is no teaching. And the "teaching" that is going on is far from exemplary. The math teacher doesn't even know how to solve some of the problems…and my child is expected to learn how to do the problem when the teacher cannot do it??

Asking kids to do the math home work before the subject is covered in class is unrealistic. These are called "previews". They swear up and down they are not using a "self-taught" methodology but I don't know what else to call this!

Many students are overly concerned with pretentious ideals. Cars, clothes and parties. Mostly an affluent student body with access to those things. Money does not equal integrity.

A school with poor leadership can not excel. More concerned with appearances than substance. Girls are given the burden of adhering a strict dress code while boys are given the power to harass. The education is just ok. They only teach one way so if that does not work for you do not expect anyone to think creatively. Just because you put "creative thinkers" on your digital street side leader board does not make it so. The staff I have worked with have lacked this very skill. We moved from out of state and have discovered Excellent school really means excellent for Arizona. I removed my child from this school.

Im a freshman at this school. It has been really fun and really hard. I have a learning disability and ADD... My math teacher has been really helpful and fair to me and she is the best teacher I have ever had because she doesn't just lecture you the whole entire hour. I feel as though the whole math department is similar. Im in band and the band program is impeccable, We got a superior with distinction at UofA Band day (marching band competitions) and a superior at NAU band day. We also march in the Rodeo parade on 4th Ave down town and we have won the highest music award over 20 years in a row. We also get to travel around a lot. Last year we went to China for a parade. We've gone to Russia, Hawaii, and London, and many more. Band is a major part of my life, and the pure love of music is spread all around the band and all of the kids are extremely dedicated. Band is my family really, we all are so close. Ive heard similar things about the theater program and the choir program and also student council as well. It feels awesome to be with people who are passionate about the same thing you are. Overall I really enjoy Cat Foot! Unfortunately I might have to move to San Antonio Texas

All things considered, Catalina Foothills is a pretty good school. Sports/extracurriculars are pretty good such as the Speech and Debate team, Science Olympiad, etc. Academics are average, however. Some departments are better than others and of course, quality of teachers vary. The math department is ok, with the Calculus BC teacher being outstanding (99.9999% of students that took the AP test have scored a 4 or higher, only one student has ever gotten a 3). Although the administration isn't the best, overall, CFHS is a pretty good school considering it is public and has no entrance requirements.

This school has gotten progressively worse since my freshman year. The security has increased by tenfold this year even though it's completely unnecessary. A fence now surrounds the school. Former students and parents are no longer allowed to visit teachers. It is a completely closed off campus. Security is constantly patrolling and monitoring students. Everyone must have their ID with them at all times in order to enter campus. If you forget it, you have to pay $5 to get a new one for the day (no exceptions). The school uses an absurd rubric to grade homework that is complicated and confusing (4.0-A+, 3.0-B, 2.5-C etc) instead of the standard, straightforward letter grades. Most people go to an in-state school (a number of them get scholarships). Only a handful go to private colleges (a few even go to top-tier schools). The only reason that more students from this school go onto prestigious schools is because the people who live in this district are wealthy. The teachers are okay and the academics are not especially exemplary. The administration is power-hungry and it's gotten so strict under the current principal. Thankfully, I'm a senior and will be graduating this year.

Catalina Foothills High is more concerned about "security" and "dresscode" than they are about actually educating students. Most of the faculty and administrators are horrible and discriminate against girls, and let male students do and wear whatever they want. I wouldn't recommend sending any female, or male students, for that matter, to this school. On a side note, the principal repeatedly does not reply to parents when called, or if someone asks to scedule a meeting, she will not comply.

This latest poster is so uninformed. Most of the students from CFHS do not go to in state schools. There is a high % of the class of 2014 going out of state to some of the most outstanding universities in the country including ivy leagues.

Catalina Foothills is a school that claims outstanding academics but bury themselves with appearance and money. Foothills is more focused on dealing with security forces than improving academic programs. The education you get is pretty average it is just in an upscale community. Extra curricular activities and specific departments such as math are weak but the district does not care to recognize that. Everyone seems to enjoy lying to themselves and blaming the state for lack of funding. They would rather hire more security staff with a student body that is 70 percent White....Catalina Foothills gets more credit than it deserves because of the lack of education standards in the state of Arizona. Go outside of Arizona, and this school is quite average. That is why 70% of kids end up at a state college because it is essentially a free ride. Arizona state colleges are required to admit just about anyone and everyone a resident of Arizona. I see these problems transferring from a stronger school system out of state. This is the best public high school in Tucson because you don't have a lot of choices. Do not expect amazing support here. This school is descending quite quickly.

We just spent the last ten years at CFHS as our three children went through the school. The teachers were top notch and the curriculum challenging and relevant. The depth and the breadth of classes, programs, and activities are unrivaled in Tucson. The entire staff and administration care about the students, and parents are very involved in supporting the school. Students are engaged in learning as well as the numerous extra-curricular activities and events. The campus and the views of the surrounding area are beautiful.

The school has excellent students and teachers in Math and English. The quality of Science teachers has declined markedly- the best ones have moved on- as shown by declining test scores. The academic focus over the last year or two in particular has markedly diminished, with the departure of quality teachers. Some of the remaining excellent teachers have been reallocated apparently against their wishes- from subjects they taught extremely well to assignments they are unsuited to and are clearly unhappy about these remaining few first-rate teachers will inevitably leave and add to this continuing slide. Standards are clearly slipping and there appears to be a lack of leadership- the Board needs to step in and fix the rot. My son has just graduated this year and I will watch for positive developments in the immediate future, but am not optimistic- we may be forced to send our younger child to a different school in the future. The District Board needs to step in.

Most beautiful campus in Tucson, as well as a challenging and diverse education. Without saying, Foothills has the most beautiful campus in Tucson. The curriculum here is without doubt the best in Tucson as far as public education goes. You also have a wide variety of choices when it comes to picking classes (6 english courses are available per grade). The teachers are very engaging in class and are always willing to assist with anything from academics to personal issues. The administration is also very experienced and credible, and keep the school together. The only negative about the school is that most students do unfortunately act the typical Foothills stereotype. Most people are white and rich, but they are mostly friendly and very nice. Foothills also has the most expansive, credible, and highest achieving fine arts program when compared to any other high school in town. The band is the largest in Arizona, and has traveled the world; traveling to Disneyland, the Beijing Olympics, Australia, Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Prescott, and more. The theatre program is very well known in Tucson as well.

This is obviously a good nice school. The facilities are and building are great, the kids are smart, the teachers seem very engaging. On the downside, language programs have been cut. For example, you can take Chinese but not French for entering freshmen. But Chinese is too difficult for most students to do well in. The sports program (for girls at least) seem to be in need of cash all the time. Finally, there is of course the appeal to snobbery. One of the "selling" points of the school is that the students generally come from privileged homes... so they have better material to work with ... something a teacher told me. This implies that we live in a pure meritocracy and that people who are poor are so because they lake certain mental gifts. I think that attitude is prevalent but misguided at CFHS. Try to get beyond the snobbery and send your child here anyway... it will be a good experience.

This was once a great school, unfortunately the changes made by the principal who took over in 2007/08 school year, it has progressively gone downhill. The ego of the community, due to a higher income level, believe it is still a good school. The good teachers have all left. My older child graduated in 2006 when the school deserved its high rating, my youngest child who will graduate this year-2011, left for another district high school and is receiving an excellent senior year! We are grateful to be out of this ego inflated district.
