St. Michaels has been such a wonderful change from our sons previous school. The community is humble, wholesome, and truly welcoming. Parents show a genuine interest in fostering a close-knit environment where everyone looks out for one another, and we immediately felt supported from the start.

The teachers care about the childrennot only their academic growth but also their overall wellbeing. They are remarkably tuned in to supporting each childs individual needs, including our son who struggles with ADHD. Their encouragement and genuine love for the students have made all the difference for our family.

Beyond the classroom, St. Michaels offers so many opportunities for children to thrive. The lower schools extracurricular activities give younger students fun and creative outlets to explore their interests, while the upper schools sports programs and musical productions showcase the students talents and foster teamwork, discipline, and joy.

St. Michaels has been a gift for our family. From the moment we first visited, we were struck by the warmth of the community and the beauty of the campus. Designed by Josias Joesler and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the grounds give a sense of history and inspiration that students feel every day.

The academics are exceptionalrigorous yet supportive, with teachers who know each child as an individual. My child comes home excited about learning, challenged in the classroom, and nurtured as a whole person. The balance of academics, arts, athletics, and social-emotional growth is something we havent seen elsewhere.

As an Episcopal school, St. Michaels provides a foundation of valuesintegrity, community, and respectthat guide daily life. As both a parent and someone who taught at St. Michaels for 13 years, I can say with confidence that this school is a remarkable place for children to grow. Now serving in administration, I continue to see every day how special our community is.

St. Michaels strikes a rare balance: strong academics, vibrant arts and music, and robust athletics, all supported by small class sizes where teachers truly know their students. My own child has flourished here, not just in academics but in confidence and character.

St. Michael's School has been an incredible place for my stepson's growth and confidence. The small class sizes allow teachers to really get to know each student personally, building meaningful relationships that nurture each child's potential. He's thriving not just academically but also in the arts and spiritual development, benefiting from a well-rounded education that challenges him in every way. The community here is welcoming, warm, and safe and is a true haven where kids feel comfortable being themselves and are supported every step of the way. I'm sad he is in 6th grade and we only have a couple precious years left at this wonderful school. We couldn't be happier with his experience at St. Michael's.

As an employee of St. Michaels School and an educational professional with more than 15 years experience at some of the top schools in the country, I can honestly say there is something truly special about this community. The emphasis on kindness and character is woven into everything we doits not just talked about, its lived every day. That kind of intentional focus on developing well-rounded, compassionate students is rare to find in schools today.

Academically, our curriculum is rigorous in a thoughtful and supportive way. Students are challenged to think critically and grow, while also being cared for as individuals. The results speak for themselvesour 8th grade graduates consistently go on to the very best high schools in Tucson, well-prepared for success.

I attended St Micheals, and its a nice school with decent teachers. And I would say youre doing work more advanced work than public schools. The musical arts program is great, the teachers are a different story. Most of them are great and helpful, but some of them are so strict youre scared to come to school. But if thats what you want for your kid Im not one to judge. Second of all, the kids are an absolute nightmare. Most of them are stuck up rich kids, unless your dad owns a company or is a brain surgeon and your mom has botox valued higher than a small home in Southern California you wont fit in here. Since I dont fit that criteria, I got bullied. The kids are mean, the principal or head master should I say? Does a decent job of handling arguments. But I mean lets be honest whos actually had an argument settled with the principal anyways. Overall this school is decent Im not just gonna rip the school because I got bullied. It was nice and I learned quite a lot. And if youve read this whole thing you probably are noticing Im putting some decent effort into this review. I mean unless you havent noticed than you probably need to go to this school, I learned some decent comprehension skills. In my personal opinion this school is horrible and you should never attend. But who cares about my opinion I mean you might you just wasted your time reading this. But to rest my case dont attend this school Ive had so many better experiences at public schools:)

St. Michaels School is a Tucson treasure in so many ways. Our familys primary goal in education is for our children to experience not just the highest quality academic instruction, but also the best in arts and athletics. St. Michaels School provides excellence in all of these areas, and does so with a holistic approach, a healthy community, and a historic campus.

We're still impressed that all of these elements really do coalesce at St. Michael's, especially since it's also safe, convenient, and actually affordable. Arizonas Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program makes it possible for us to choose private education, and most St. Michaels families are either enrolled with ESA, or with a student tuition organization like IBE, or with financial aid. We've been so grateful for the affordability workshops offered regularly at St. Michaels to help us navigate all of that.

St. Michaels has a Lower School as well as an Upper School, and we have kids in both. Currently, ours are in 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and 8th grades so weve been able to gain a pretty wide perspective on the whole school. They all adore their music, Spanish, art, PE, and other enrichment classes, and theyre challenged by their academic classes, but they arent assigned mountains of homework. At every grade level, theyve had time and energy after school to try new things, get serious about sports and music, and hang out with friends. Its been really well balanced for them.

Now that we have a graduating 8th grader, its fun to see how this investment has been more than worth it. Shes prepared to excel in high school, and has gained so much confidence in herself at St. Michaels. There have certainly been friend conflicts and test stress, as we anticipated for middle school. But there's a strong network of support at school, especially from the on-campus counselor and RN. As our daughter heads on to a much larger high school, were grateful that the Episcopal roots of St. Michaels have encouraged her to develop values without any conservative religiosity.

Its a super supportive environment and we love it. The campus contributes to that, too, and you can feel the energy as you walk through all the beautiful gated courtyards. When we first toured the school, we were amazed to discover a huge indoor gym flanked by giant rainwater reservoirs, a magical outdoor performance space, trickling fountains, and shade trees. We're so happy we chose St. Michael's School!

This is our 4th year at St. Michaels and we can say we made the right choice. We came to St.Michael's during the pandemic. We were impressed how well the school addressed safety, academics and mitigation strategies during the pandemic based on scientific guidelines.This is an inclusive community of administrative staff, teachers, maintenance crew , parents and students. What we love about our school is the balance & value based growth and development. Our daughter wakes every morning excited to go to school and learn - that in itself is such a blessing and proof that St. Michael's is great for our family. There are multiple opportunities for parents to volunteer &contribute. The administration takes feedback and concerns seriously and are very receptive to the needs of families here. The administration, staff, teachers and parents are the strong pillars of the St.Michaels community which we are grateful to be a part of.

I go to school here and I adore it I love the teachers and everyone. I love the arts so thankfully there is a musical and a choice of band or choir when you hit middle school.

I went to St Micheals and. I dont even know what to say this school does nothing about bullying etc theres a FEW good teachers but they mainly have favorites. The teachers seem so burned out half the time and the teachers dont help.

As a parents of two St. Michael's graduates, we highly recommend St. Michael's School! The overall academic, athletic, and fine arts programs are simply excellent. In particular, the Upper School English and Math programs are superb, and our children were extremely well prepared for high school. We enjoyed our time as St. Michael's parents immensely and valued being part of the strong St. Michael's parents community. St. Michael's was a wonderful experience for not only our children, but our family as well.

Having two children go through St Michaels has been an experience. The lower school was great. The campus is charming and we stuck it out waiting for it to get better. Unfortunately it has not. The middle school needs a lot of work. There are a few outstanding teachers, truly exceptional. The math program is a complete joke. Way behind public school curriculum and light years behind Basis. They hire a new math teacher every year and it is a disaster every year. The staff and teachers pick a few favorite kids by 6th grade and they are given priority. The rest are left to sink or swim on their own. There are few sports. The musical is nice. We hoped the new headmaster would make positive changes but more staff has left including a few fantastic teachers. Overall, not worth the money.

St. Michaels is an outstanding school. The education is well-rounded, holistic and high quality. Character development and values are an important part of school life. The love and care given to my daughter is more than we could have hoped for! Teachers and admin are committed and care for all members of the family. We love the close family feel, small class sizes, and the care given to guiding our daughter through her academic and personal growth and development. We are blessed to be members of the St. Michaels community and, with our daughter in second grade, we look forward to many more years!

As a former public school teacher, I am so deeply grateful to have found such a loving, supportive and engaging environment for my children. The community, staff and teachers have created a place like no other in Tucson. The small class sizes allow teachers to connect with each child on a higher level and bring a sense of ease for the children. Our child has so many wonderful resources and opportunities available to him that make his experience at school so rewarding. The teachers are knowledgeable, caring and so organized! The leadership is outstanding, as well...the kind of leaders we all looky up to with admiration. Our child loves going to school everyday and we have loved watching his curiosities expand. It is such an incredible gift to have found this community for our child and family!

What has been most impressive has been St. Michael's response to Covid19. The school's distance learning program is the best in town.

I have always been a big believer in public schools. We chose our home based on school district. I volunteered extensively every year. Eventually, I had to accept that the standard public school experience was failing my son, despite our best efforts. We acted on a recommendation from our neighbor and enrolled our son at St. Michael's. To say that his two years at this school (7th & 8th grades) transformed his life and trajectory is not an overstatement. His peers were welcoming, his teachers firm but nurturing. All of the defenses he had built up from years of bullying fell away once he realized that he was safe and valued. The educational demands and individual expectations are high, but the support is unrivaled. My son excelled academically and in the arts, and was recognized and encouraged as a leader. He is confident and well-prepared for high school and beyond. We love St. Michael's School!

The middle school director is incompetent and clueless in regards to best teaching practices. The teachers do not create interdisciplinary connections, do not have detailed curriculum maps, rarely use rubrics, and many lack basic understanding of adolescent development.

We love St. Michaels. Our daughter, who is in kindergarten, is very happy here. We like the fact that the kids get one on one attention every day, especially with learning to read. Its also nice community where the families take the time to get to know each other.

II am a graduate of St Michael's and I also enrolled my son there because of the positive experience I had here. I honestly felt that St Michael's was instrumental in my academic success during my high school years. I took honors English and felt that St Michael's curriculum really helped me in high school .i can honestly say that I learned more at St Michael's than I did in four years of a very good public high school ! I credit St Michael's for my high ACT and SAT scores. I also became very good at organizing my time because of the homework load I had at St Michael's. Yes. There is a lot of it but I became very confident in my mastery of the content of what was taught. Trust me, it will pay off in the long run!
I always felt safe and felt that I was an important member of the community. I learned to think for myself and also realized that there were people who struggled in the Tucson community and that I had a responsibility to help those less fortunate than myself.
I learned to speak public ally and also discovered a passion for science , literature and history at this wonderful place.
My son had the same experience many years later and became very confident in his academic abilities at St Michael's. He was able to attend University high school and later attend college with a four year fullscholarship and complete a Masters degree with half of his tuition paid by his college.
I feel in my heart that his academic success was nurtured by the wonderfull teachers at St Michael's
It is a beautiful school and I feel the teachers want nothing more than the students success culturally , and academically and to help the students to accomplish things that they never dreamed were possible.They also want them to become good citizens and to treat each other as they would like to be treated. What more could you ask for?

This was once a good school. The middle school is horrible except for 3 teachers. At over $9000/year it is NOT worth the money. Math and science continue to lag behind public schools and charters. Your opinion and input is not welcome by the Head of School, she simply does not want to hear it, unless of course you have a position in the community that she wishes to have access. Declining academics, declining enrollment, and an ineffectual administrator who is not even respected by her own employees spell disaster for this once great school. SAVE your money open enroll in a better school district/charter!

This is our sixth year at St. Michael's and I still drive away from school every morning feeling immensely grateful that my child spends his days in a beautiful campus being challenged, nurtured, and cared for. This is an exceptional school that manages to balance demanding academics with a strong arts program and plenty of athletic opportunities. Every teacher we have had has been not just highly qualified, but incredibly dedicated. Every year I have felt my son's teachers knew him well, cared for him, and took the time to figure out his needs. As a non-religious non-parishioner I truly cannot relate to previous reviews that describe feeling there is preference for students and teachers that belong to the church. In my experience, St. Michael's is a close-knit, supportive, inclusive community. We're definitely staying through 8th grade and can't wait for middle school!

This is our 3rd year at St. Michael's and we couldn't be happier! We came from what was supposed to be a one of the best public elementary schools in Tucson. They could not challenge our child due to the high class sizes and was bored and not learning a thing! All of the teachers we have had at St. Michael's have been wonderful. They are caring and professional. The new head of school is wonderful. She genuinely cares for all the students and their families. She is out front each morning to greet us as we drop of our children, never saw the principal at the public school do this! Our children love this school and have asked to stay there though 8th grade. They say the kids are nice and they are not bullied like they were at the public school. The parent involvement here is fantastic! St. Michael's is truly a special place and we are glad to be a part of it!

Political cartel of parent s and admin who sing from the same choir book make this school intolerable. Ineffectual senior directors complete the sad end to this once fine school. There are terribly poor teachers in this school that frankly, should have retired years ago. They are tired, mean spirited phone-it-in individuals and the children suffer for it. Science and math are sub-par for a private school (8000/year or so - are they kidling?).

St. Michael's is full of kind hearted children from loving homes. Families appear to give more than they receive. Beyond the generous monetary gifts and the volunteering of time, families interconnect and want all the children to thrive. Families go to basketball games, even when their children aren't on the team. Families support the school play, even when their children aren't in the cast. The school has a buddy system which allows the grades to interact on a regular basis, the other classrooms aren't filled with strangers, but they are filled with friends. We are getting ready to start our 6th year at St. Michael's and both our children love their teachers, their friends and their school. They are happy, they are learning and they want to go to St. Michael's. St. Michael's has so many families that I want my children to be around. When I look at the school through their eyes, there isn't another choice.

We have found St. Michael's an excellent school, where our child has thrived since moving from Houston, TX, in 2011/12. We do not see preferential treatment based on race, religion or lack of it. We have experienced transparent Parent-Teacher relationships in her 2 years here, and have not regretted our choice of St. Michael's.

I feel the reviewer on April 6th below expresses the feelings of a very small community of people in this school. We did not like the way our children were treated here and they now attend an academically advanced charter school. The science was very poorly taught in this school and the teachers were not able to teach math to the level the children needed for complete comprehension in order to score well on testing. Our children are now thriving elsewhere and we feel we should never have enrolled them here in the first place. I agree there is too much politics in the school and this reflects on how the children are treated. There were teachers that picked favorites and treated others very poorly. The academic directors should retire and fresh faculty needs to reform the school. None of these changes seemed to be on the horizon and it does not look like the new Headmistress will change anything. Too much parent involvement lead to some key parents being power hungry and taking over too many activities and not allowing other parents in the school to be involved. Board members and parent association chairs should have a one term limit, this is key for limiting their influence.

Our child has attended St. Michael's since kindergarten. The new headmistress appears to be well qualified, professional, and nurturing. Also, the headmistress appears to be open and welcoming to parental input. The K-3 teachers are nurturing, dedicated, and simply amazing! Our child has loved each one and has thrived in their classrooms. Our child has been challenged academically and often does work a grade ahead of what is taught in public schools. We love the small class sizes. The students are well mannered, articulate, responsible, and kind. The art/music teachers truly challenge the kids to explore and love the fine arts. There are a lot of options for after school activities. The drama teacher is one of the best in Tucson. The school community is welcoming and there is high parent involvement. Like most schools, St. Michael's would benefit if it encouraged a few of its teachers to retire. Overall, though, we think the school is amazing! We love the academics, excellent staff, reinforcement of values, and friendly community.

i completely agree with the reviewer on 3/22/2013. We too experienced disrespectful behavior from the faculty of this school. They claim to teach the children manners but fail themselves to show any of it towards many parents. The headmaster ran the school on rumored nonsense he would hear from the teachers and curriculum heads and have conferences with parents regarding their "behavior". Our experience has been that professionalism is not something that is practiced by the faculty of this school. There appears to be no protocol of appropriate conduct on behalf of the faculty here, they can do as they please. As long as they are part of the church their position is secure. We too have now enrolled our children elsewhere and they are much happier and less stressed. We also were not happy with the curriculum, it seems they spend very little time teaching relevant topics like math during school time and would load them up with homework and have them figure it out at home. Not sure what we were paying tuition for when we spent all our time reteaching our kids the material at home.

The political climate was too dysfunctional in this school and it does affect the children. Our experience was that members of the church had clear favoritism in the way their children were being treated here and academically favored as well. We decided to leave to keep our kids happy and have them be nurtured in a unbiased school. The teachers were not able to teach the curriculum to the standards they claim they achieve. If a child receives lower grades they are offered tutoring by the teachers but they charge you additionally, too much bias here and we felt it was corrupted. They can not seem to keep a headmaster that can implement the change the school needs to become functional because that would require letting go of many key curriculum directors and teachers that can not teach the curriculum affectively. We felt we were not respected as parents here and our kids felt left out on many occasions. The community here was not inclusive. We felt being part of their religious environment was key to success to being treated respectfully and decided enough was enough. I know many parents have tried to voice their opinions about changes and instead would be perceived as trouble.

My son is in third grade and loves his school. When I ask him what he likes about his school, he says "you aren't teased for being smart." What I like best is that they have high academic standards and care about having well-rounded, artistically thriving students who are kind to each other.
