as the black student there when I went there, I was always getting in trouble for anything I did. I got suspended for point fuzzies before, and it was to the point once when I did get in a fight, I just immediately put my hands up while the other kid tried to do stuff that way, so I didn't get in trouble. He didn't get in trouble, but if I was to have retaliated, I got suspended again. There was times when someone's wallet went missing. They immediately grab me went through my bag or school for black children I could recommend.

I have 3 kids at this school and they are thriving. The teachers have been invested, communicative and supportive of my children and their needs. There is a lot of hands on, project based learning. The administration greets families at the gate and know all the kids names. Every one. They also have a lot of activities where families are included and invited on campus. Highly recommend

This has been a great pre-, elementary and middle school for both of my sons. Teachers are engaged with their students and parents, academic education is solid, and team sports have had a positive impact.

I currently have 1 kid in TCDS, they have been there since 1st grade, and my other kid is now in high school, but also attended TCDS from 4th grade thru 8th grade. We absolutely love the school and the environment they have created. My freshman was very well prepared for hs and is excelling, while taking honors classes and participating in sports. My 6th grader has an amazing team of teachers that care about him as a whole person. I love their approach on homework, as kids need to be kids outside of school.

TCDS has gone to great lengths the past five years to retool it's program to serve the social and academic needs of today's learner. Our program emphasizes the importance of building psychological safety and connection in each classroom in order to provide the optimal conditions for problem solving and academic excellence. Two of my three children currently attend, and I will absolutely be sending my youngest when it's time. This school approaches learning through the project-based model. It's hands-on learning, better helping them better understand the topic. We appreciate that it's not just a memorization approach, like many of us experienced as children (and how did that benefit us?). They love that they can engage while they learn, and I'm impressed by how much that helps them retain the concepts. Teachers and staff are all supportive. Also love that it's an outdoor campus, which also adds to the kids' experience.

We decided to have our child attend this school because of it's project-based learning standard and my child needed something different. She is now more excited than ever to attend school, because in her words Tucson Country Day School has made learning actually fun for her and it's easier for her to remember things because it's not "boring". When she has accomplishments we're always invited to the morning flag to see her name be called for doing tthe most homework in her class in ST math, but we're not just only excited for her we're astounded by all the other motivated children who earn rewards every week and let me tell you it's a lot of children. They're very informative and on top of a lot of curriculum while still making the learning hands-on. I don't know how they do it but it's great!

So far we haven't had any issues with bullying, but any concerns that are brought up from our daughter it's easily addressible to talk with a staff member if we have genuine concerns for our daughters safety and well-being emotionally, mentally and physically.

We love this school! We love the diverse staff and how caring they are. My child loves all of her teachers! Elementary has a home room teacher plus 4 special classes throughout the week: Spanish, Art, PE and Music. My child also receives pull out services for Speech. Each day they start with a quick outdoor assembly which celebrates learning and achievements of their peers. I love all of the green space that children get to enjoy throughout the day while working on projects and during lunch. They have multiple playgrounds, sports fields/courts, gardens, and swimming pools.

This school will fail your child. My child was there for 3 years and after switching him schools he was not where he should be with the other students. Luckily he was able to catch up but this school is nothing but a joke. Also having to deal with bullying and harassment they will sweep it under the rug no matter how serious. They just care about money and title I don't know how they get "best charter"

I was at this school for 9 years, kinder - 8th grade. Most teachers are very helpful but newer teachers treat students and their academics terribly. From my experience, 2 of my teachers would treat the students they liked semi decent and the rest would get yelled at even if they didnt do anything wrong. There are so many cases of sexual assault and harassment, as I was one of them. It was in 1st grade by a fellow student and nothing was done about it. As well, practically nothing is done about bullying. I was bullied for years and I reported it so many times, yet nothing was done about it. There are so many great teachers that I would recommend because they actually make learning fun and memorable. Though some teachers lack that ability. I wouldnt recommend this school because of how chaotic classes are becoming because the teachers cant control their students. Ive met so many great students and staff but there are other schools that deal better with bullying, sexual assault and harassment, and engaging curriculum.

This school touts social and educational development yet all the trauma my child has experienced has come from the administration. First they fired several teachers after the first quarter. Then a teacher showed a video of a child who hanged himself as part of antibullying curriculum. Now, a teacher is using micro aggressions against her students. My child does not deserve any of this and the school continues to be impossible to reach to address this. And when I have reached someone in the past its just blown over like Im being dramatic.

This school is trying to reinvent education and it's failing the students. They are more concerned with fundraisers and getting money to do improvements on the school than providing the children with a proper education. The school focuses so much on SEL yet has such much bullying that they ignore or make the victims feel they are the problem. There is very little classroom instruction, no homework, no tests and the children are way behind compared to other schools. The school is failing the children and their futures!

First year here and i love the environment of a charter school setting with a private school learnung environment. Uniforms I like a lot, color coded for grades. Catering in a little higher from the cafeteria food elsewhere. Office staff are great always keeping informed and helping out as much as possible... Great school

Most teachers work hard and all mean well. A lot of them really care about the kids. There is a COO and CEO. Why do they need both? Some teachers have been there for years and years but not all are great. They hire teachers with little experience, no certificates, and not even degrees in education. Seems like they would need experienced coaches and mentors, not upper management. The campus is big, the classes are small. There are good things and bad things. Like great music and art programs, but just average academics.

My grandchild was in in K; her first year completed at TCDS and now moving into the first grade. My children attended the usual TUSD public schools and I must admit this is the best school that I have seen in Tucson. The teacher (K) was wonderful! Ms. Wanda is "hands-on" supportive and always a pleasure. I love the schools approach in teaching the 7-Habits. It is a well-rounded, supportive, exceptional learning environment.

Their anti bullying policy is terrible they dont help the students that are being bullied. Some of the teachers are amazing but then others pick on students them self. One middle school teacher called me an idiot because i helped another student from falling onto another. She then proceeded to get into my face and say that she will be happy when i leave the school. The administration also tells students to not to use self defense in situations where it is needed. They say that it is retaliation and that it is not acceptable. They tell the students to ask politely for the bullies to stop no matter what. But at least in my experience that has never worked out, no bully will listen to you when you ask politely to stop. They dont care at all. Over all the school is not a school you should send your child to.

Kindergarten is a joke.. The amount of work and expectations for a 5 yr old is insane, and if they struggle they just flunk the kid knowing that Arizona is not a state that requires Kindergarten education. I try look for help for my kid and they basically have done nothing. The teacher is barely new teaching there and honestly I don't like her way of teaching and approach.

My child has been a TCDS since they were in the Preschool program. She did very well in preschool and pre-kinder, and then we noticed that in Kindergarten she was not doing well in reading. Every time we have spoken to the administration and the teachers about our concerns, their only response is that we, as parents, need to read more to our child at home. TCDS has been unwilling to provide any support within the school regarding students who are struggling in reading. As a family, we have put our child in a summer phonics program and hired a Reading tutor, but they still struggle to read at grade level. As a parent, it is very frustrating when you ask the school for help and they turn it around and place the responsibility solely on the parents. We have given TCDS a chance for too long and unfortunately we will need to find a better school for our child next year. I believe that TCDS educates students who are on-grade level and have no behavioral struggles just fine. Unfortunately, they do not seem to have interventions in place to educate students who struggle academically and/or behaviorally.

there isn't much homework, but they will give out 5 different projects at once that are all due around the same time and get made when they arent perfect, and students don't eat a good breakfast, and get 8-10 hours of sleep, and go through extra curricular classes

So i was there for 7 years, at first it was nice...then they started not caring about the students education or bullying....i had a teacher who was gone for 3 months straight, i was bullied from 3rd grade until 7th grade (1st and 2nd were fine) but in 7th they really stopped caring, i had teachers on the sides as the bullies, the same teacher would tell me to stop when a different student would do something then call me fat...the students spread rumors about me, laughed at me, called me horrible names, and would scream awful things at me...in front of the teachers!!! they teachers just told them to walk away, they never asked how i was.....i do however like a few of the teachers...there was only 2 i wasn't particularly fond of, the rest were great. but the anti bullying policy is a complete lie, i am a student to clear things up, thankfully i moved away and got out of that place. i don't recommend it if your child is in middle school,however if your child is in elementary or preschool school it should be fine, again the teachers are great, but bullying is taken extremely lightly

One of the best ways to see what Tucson Country Day School is about is to visit our campus. Take a tour with an administrator. Visit our classrooms. Meet our office staff. See our teachers in action. Watch our students interact with each other. See our landscaped 10-acre campus, our covered activity center and playgrounds, and our large grassy field. Observe our art, music, PE, technology, Spanish, band and orchestra classes. WOW! I have seen some amazing changes at Tucson Country Day School this year. I have always been a fan of the school and very much appreciate the school's focus on social excellence as well as academics. Children are well-behaved and polite, there don't seem to be a lot of disruptions in the classroom and teachers care beyond anything I have ever seen. There is a new focus on data this year and students are being asked to set goals for themselves and then being asked to think about steps they can take to meet their goals - like raising my B in math to an A by doing all of my homework, asking questions when I have them and coming in at lunch to get extra help when I need it. I love this and so does my child. In Middle School, the students are divided into small groups they call "crews". Each crew has an adult leader who meets with the crew members every week to talk about how they are doing academically and socially. This accountability is great and is making my middle school student stay on top of ALL of his work. His grades are so much better. I couldn't be happier. I just enrolled for next year and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I LOVE Tucson Country Day School. When I read some of the recent reviews, I have to wonder if the reviewer is talking about the same school I am writing about, our views are SO different. Tucson Country Day School is an excellent school. My children have attended for many years and while the school has grown over the years, it has maintained what I consider to be its most important characteristics: great teachers, small class sizes, family friendly community and campus, social excellence which leads to a well-behaved and polite student body, lots of extra program like art, choir, general music, band, orchestra, Spanish, PE and technology, a strong administrative team, high expectations and strong academics. The school still offers after school sports for 5th through 8th graders. Sports include volleyball, softball, soccer and basketball for girls, and flag football, soccer and basketball for boys. There are many student recognition programs. Teachers are told they are "pure gold" and they are. Every student is Champion and my children have always felt like Champions when they were attending Tucson Country Day School. It's simply a great school and one my family loves!

It's unfortunate when people don't understand why decisions are made and they feel it is okay to bash an entire school or program for a decision they disagree with. The Resource department at Tucson Country Day School is excellent. We have a great reputation in the community and students enroll at TCDS because of our reputation. The Resource department is housed in a building that is only a few years old. Rooms are designed for a teacher and several children. The rooms are clean, new, fresh and open with plenty of windows. The Resource department staff has their own computers and students use them and laptops the Department has available. As an inclusion school, most resource services are given in the classroom by a certified special education teacher or a trained paraprofessional. When students need small group or one-on-one services with a certified special education teacher, they are seen in the Resource building. The Resource Department has received a 100% rating by the State of Arizona for the last several years when it comes to compliance with State and Federal laws, and services and program offered. The Resource Department even holds it own awards ceremony each year.

As a parent I felt like I didn't have enough communication with the teacher. I dislike that there is only one parent teacher conference in the beginning of the year. It took forever to get my child in the intervention program and once she was in she did great and excelled but it upsets me there was so much time in between before she was placed and given the right accomendations. We are not enrolling our children back into this school which is sad because the year started off so promising.

This is an ok school. People make it out to be better than what it really is. My child is in special ed. It has been an absolute joke with them. Finally they get an amazing teacher for the older kids and my child progresses and advances in ways I didn't think were possible. He was an amazing teacher! What do they do? Do continue his contract for the next year. What a joke. We will not be putting our child in this school again. The resource department is a joke. The rooms are small and crowded their computers are 10 years old while the rest of the school has great technology advances. It shows if you're not the favorite teacher and don't kiss behinds they'll give you the can and make the children suffer. If they can't fund their resource department and have teachers that care. Then what is the point? If you have a child that needs extra attention don't put them in here. They'll just dump and basically give them pages to color than actually teach. SO disappointed in you TCDS. You messed up big time not letting the best teacher continue.

tucson country day has been a nightmare !!!!! they show favoritism, they trat ths children like its a police state mind set , they teach conformity and they have honor roll kids in detention if they forget 3 home works or get 3 tardies the will be in detention.if you forget your sweaters they will donate them with out your consent i have had 2 hundred dollar jackets taken and given away with out notice.you have to act trhe same follow the leader if you cannot you will not be accepted at this school . T hey are forming sheep for the future of america. they will call cps on you for any reason and call it a protel call.they have made me and my family live in fear and made they family scared to go to school !!! this school is a nightmare and the principal will always side with any teacher for any reason even at fault

I am a parent of TWO student at Tucson Country Day School. This school is terrible, my children will NOT be going here next year, that is for sure. Had I known that this school showed favoritism to students and treated others the way they do, forced conservatism on children, etc. and were money grubbing for uniforms and every other activity, my children would never have been enrolled here to begin with. Horrible. One student in my child's class got points taken off his grade for coloring TWO DIFFERENT colored eyes! what is this teaching our children? One of the biggest selling artists of all time has two different colored eyes! David Bowie! And they allowed this to happen! They feed the children JUNK food and charge $3.50 for horrible unhealthy food. Do not send your children to this school!

This school has an amazing outside reputation but this is entirely not the same on the inside. My student went to this school for almost his entire academic career and he was doing great till middle school. The TCDS math department has had failing AIMS scores for the past 6 years and the school has yet to realize that the teacher isn't teaching her students to the best of her ability. My child was left straggling in the back and when he went for help or asked for a little help on last nights homework it was marked missing and he was sent to intervention, an after school program for students to finish there work. My child was told when asked for help to look in the textbook and this math teacher was not there to be found. I sent my child there to be ready for high school and that is not at all what I got.

TCDS is by far a way better school than TUSD. I am so happy with the progress my son has made since he started attending. Not to mention his IEP are a lot different than the ones from TUSD. There is no comparing.

I have 2 children in Tucson Country Day School, K and 1st-grade. Uniforms are strict and color coded for easy recognition of grades. Great idea! Recently my K got in a little trouble with the fire alarm and the consequence, by the principal, was handled in a very appropiate manner. The child was treated respectfully and fairly. I was impressed. The special ed dept. is phenominal. So glad we transferred from TUSD.

I have been very pleased with this school for my Granddaughters. They have smaller class sizes and teachers who seem to want to be there. They also value the Arts which so many other schools have let go which is a huge disservice to the children. The availability of on campus after school care and classes is also a great feature. The campus houses Preschool through Junior High which I think is good for all of the kids. I think they do the best they can to make sure kids know sitting at a desk and reading a book is not the only way to learn. In our teach to the test only educational culture now days this isn't an easy thing to accomplish without being a private school. Is it perfect no nothing is. But is it heads above what is offered in TUSD for the most part yes. Our children will be entering 2nd and 5th grade. They have been there since Preschool.

All three of my children attend TCDS (5th grade, 1st grade and PK) and my oldest has attended since she was in Kinder. This school has many great aspects to it despite the few negative reviews I have read on here. I also work at the school as a substitute teacher and couldnt think of a better place to send your kids or work at. My son has special needs and the resource department is excellent in helping him excel last year in Kinder. My daughter is held accountable for her school work and held at higher standards for her social behavior at the school. My son received discipline that was appropriate for his misbehavior's last year and well within the IEP/504 guidelines. I find that this school has great boundaries for students and a high academic structure regarding the curriculum. They use fun and innovative ways to encourage learning and critical thinking for students; rather than doing a simple book report my daughter did an activity every quarter that required critical thinking outside of the box. The PS/PK program is excellent as well and my youngest daughter is returning this year. I would HIGHLY recommend this school to anyone wanting to find a school for their children!

This school's test scores have declined signifigantly since the arrival of the new Principal. That can be verified on this website. The atmosphere is one of concern. If you "fit in" to the staff culture. You will do well. Children are bullied and become a victem again from the staff! I find it sad, this was a great school.

We moved to TCDS from our local public school that actually is rated higher. TCDS has proven to be a fantastic change for both my kids, both with very different needs. My son is in special ed and the school has done everything to address his needs. I feel so well supported by a great team of teachers and aids. And, even more important, my son likes school for the first time in his life. He's happy there! My daughter has other "special needs"; she has been in the GATE program since she was 5. She was totally bored and uninspired by our previous school. She was starting to dislike school as well. TCDS has also addressed her need for being challenged, and recognized for her gifts. She is in classes at her level that challenge and inspire her, and she is regularly awarded for being a good student and citizen. She is now happy again at school too. When my kids are happy in school; I know they are learning and growing. To me a school that can identify and provide what each child needs makes a "great" school.
