I had to take my son out of that school, Principal (Mrs Alvarez) is the Farthest Rude human being person ever!!! Now They have Uniform Requirements which I didn’t mind at first but just because my son was wearing plain zip up sweater due to weather being so cold She told him to take it off due to Uniform Restrictions, When he had bought shirt himself with his own hard working money same day. His Respectfully responded he was cold, Mrs Alvarez responded back told him to freeze then! I’m so disappointed How cold blooded she can be! Teachers don’t even last there for so long either. He will truly Miss his Teachers and Friends.

My experience as a parent with the school especially the principal and drop out prevention specialist has been a nightmare. Thier inconsistent stories and rude and aggressive tactics with not only a parent but my student has made me regret sending my child to this place, because I wouldn't even call it a school. A place implementing punishment and intimidating methods to manipulate any situation resulting in their favor. There is no integrity. No transparency. No communication. No leadership.

What made my experience at Alta Vista High School unique was the different clubs and programs, the support, benefits, and opportunities that others and I can obtain. There's a variety of clubs that one can settle into, such as Math League, Mesa Club, and Gaming Club. Programs such as Youth Entrepreneurs and a Spanish Class have greatly helped me in my life. From my experience, teachers and staff support and help students with school and personal problems in any way they can. There are also many benefits that one can gain from coming to Alta Vista. One of them is getting college credit hours while enrolled in high school. Some opportunities that I had gotten include dual enrollment and JTED. These have greatly impacted my view on a career and receiving college credits. The overall atmosphere that I have gotten from being at Alta Vista is encouraging. Both teachers and staff encourage students to attend tutoring to raise their grades. This is important to receive opportunities later on in college.

Hi my name is Daniel Lopez I'm a graduate from Alta Vista High School located in Tucson, Arizona. I attended Alta Vista all 4 years of my high school career. During my 4 years here at Alta Vista I learned 5 important transferable skills that have worked to my advantage in the world I live in today. Those things are Respect, Responsibility, Leadership, Character and Most of all Discipline. Once a Lobo always a Lobo. The staff here is mostly dedicated to the students best interest. Not once did I ever come to a point at Alta Vista where I felt I wasn't important to the staff and teachers. Many cases I had to stay after school till about 5 O' clock and the teachers and staff were very dedicated to help me reach my maximum academic potential and they would do whatever it takes to help me get there. I am a senior at Alta Vista, graduating next month. I have attended Alta Vista for the last four years, and I can simply say it is an amazing school. Not only has it provided me with the education needed but the support from the staff in difficult times. I've gotten so close to the administration & the teachers, graduating & leaving will be hard. All the teachers are there because they want to be there and they truly care about the students. Alta Vista makes me feel safe, the officers on duty and the administration make sure of that. I have stayed at school late, or arrived super early and it has become like a second home to me. Alta Vista has opened so many doors for me & has given me the opportunity to attend many different conferences, and even the chance to go to Washington D.C in June. Ive been part of the extracurricular activities offered & even though we are a small school we try our best to make the absolutely best out of it. They encourage all the students to have perfect attendance and reward them with a free trip to Knott's Berry Farm. And if they pass all the AIMS at Alta Vista sophomore year they are rewarded a FREE trip to Disneyland senior year. I Love AV.

Alta vista is a good school to go to... but they should give you the class on t ime when you need it that year, and not give it to you when its not supposed to be given the other year.... but other than that this school is okay....

My school is a great school in my opinion. I say this because the teachers and the staff do their best to make sure the students are safe at all times. The teachers and the staff also take time to make sure the students are learning the material and that they are doing well in this school. They make sure your grades are passing otherwise you have to do mandatory tutoring. So in my opinion i believe that this school cares a lot about the students that go here and they set high expectations for all of their students to pass and do their best.

My school is, overall, very enjoyable and excellent when it comes to academics. As a student, I find the courses easy to follow and well paced. The school environment is also laudable, with a closed campus and teachers spending lunchtime in the lunch area. From my experience, there are virtually no cases of harassment of any students. The office staff is kind and helpful. I've been coming to Alta Vista for two years and my only complaint is the lack of a library and lunch hall, but other than that, this school is nearly perfect.

I am a student at Alta Vista High School, and this school is AMAZING! It change the way i see school. i drop out and didnt want to go back, then my cousin recommended this school. So I decided to give it a shot & now i am going to graduate on time. & they even have AIMS workshops, which help me a lot to pass the AIMS. I super highly recommend this school.

My school is okay for now. I like how this school only has three classes for each block, it makes it more eaier. I just dont like how we can backpacks, on school grounds. I would prefer to have more better food as well. . But other than that this school is great, helps me to understand wahat im learning in class.

The things i dislike is how we only have 10 weeks to learn a subject that other schools spend half a year on and the lunch is not very good. Other than that i reccomend AVHS

I have been at AVHS since freshman year and it is an alright school. I hate that we don't have a cafeteria or lunch on fridays until after 3rd period. Most of the teachers do a satisfactory job and dispite the strict (and sometimes apparantly pointless) rules at this school it is great because we get out early and we have only 3 classes a day which makes passing high school extremely easy.

Alta Vista is a great school. All of the staff is ready and willing to help with any problem whether it be academic or personal. Not only does the school expect students to do their best, they expect even more. Faculty and staff encourage students to do things like apply for financial aid and colleges in order to further their education for a better future. The small class sizes help the teachers provide great one-on-one time for students when they need help or are falling behind. as a graduating senior, i'm glad I made the choice to attend here.

Our school has a great principal named Ms. alvarez. We have great teachers too. Our school has only 3 classes & they're easy & not too hard. Students have to mgo to turoring if we recieve an D or an F. Teachers have good teaching strategies. We as students havfe the responsibility of coming to school everyday & learning & absorb everything we learn. Homework is always mandatory to finish.

My school is one of the most amazing schools I'm glad I am able to attend Alta Vista. This school gives you a great opportunity to get caught up and the fact that you are able to attend tutoring any day for help is a great advantage. There is also great programs and clubs that Alta Vista has one being student council . I am a current student council member and I have to say that being in stuck is a great advantage because you get to go experience a lot of great things. Alta vista has an amazing variety of learning experiences , the school has a ton of education opportunities , the teachers also help as many students with work that is needed, the only issue at the school tho , is some of the students who enroll , take it for granted , of course there are the achievers that actually do the work , learn from it , and get through their high schooling , apart from the students, the principal is the kindest woman I know, out of all of the schools I've been to, she is the respectable one, and she does great wonders for her school, I completely recommend the school to someone who is actually wanting to learn and be educative enough, and responsible enough, Alta vista is my number one choice :3

Alta Vista always has its door open for anyone who is looking for a healthy and educational enviornment. I am a former student of Alta Vista and class Valedictorian of 2011. When I heard my younger cousin was having trouble with school and was at risk of not graduating on time,I immediately reffered him to the Alta Vista enrollment staff knowing that he would be in good hands. Alta Vista is a great school! the faculty ans staff really care, not only about how you're doing in school but how life is outside of school. They are very understanding and have a goal to help each student achive thier goals. Alta Vista High School is awesome! Everyone there is friendly and helpful. I like how all the staff members know all or majority of the students. Because it is a smaller school, teachers have a better relationphip with students therefore students are more eager to seek help when needed. They strive to be a great school and they are. Every tearcher is very involve with each student and really care each and everyone, you as a student you actually learn not like when being in a big school, and to have the principle memorize every students name really makes you feel good and shows how much she cares to make this school the best.

i have been at this school for four years and i can say without a doubt that i loved and charished every moment being here. it has honestly been an amazing experience all the way from the staff, the teachers, and the great friends i have made. the knowledge and life skills that i have learned i will use utilize for the rest of my life. this amazing school has taght me to never give up on life and to respect others. i cant thank every staff members enough for giving me the opportunity attend this school; cause without them i honestly dont know were i would be. Lastly our principal. Ms. Alvarez has kept me on track all my four years of attending Alta Vista. Alta VIsta HIgh School is one of the best schools I have attended. I have been here since freshman year and I can honestly say that this school is amazing. To the staff all the way to the students. It was a small school but that was highly beneficial to me because it was easy to make friends with everyone and it was the same for everyone to make friends also. I would highly recommend this school to any incoming freshman. The staff here will make sure their students do not fall behind and will push them to their full potential in order to make sure they reach their academic success.

When my son was enrolled at Alta Vista he was getting into trouble and the school took initiative to help him. They helped get into a gang prevention program. Alta Vista staff explained how important it was to graduate and how his future is important. Sadly, he eventually dropped out of school but a few months later enrolled into Job Corps where he received his diploma. He did take that advice from Mrs. Alvarez and is furthering his education. I believe that Alta Vista had a great impact on where he is, they saved him from getting put into the system, he didn t slip through the cracks, and he stayed away from drugs and gangs, All because someone cared enough to talk to him and put time and effort into him. Thank you to the staff of Alta Vista. I honestly owe them so much for stepping in and saving my son. Each school should have the same compassion and helped students. I also feel parents should get more involved with their children's schools no matter what age ro grade.

As an educator that has served at many different high schools in Arizona, I must say that I am impressed with the way Alta Vista High School cares about the education of the student. A great amount of time is placed on the academic demands with the attention centered on the success of the student. The students understand that they are more than a student number, they are a name and one that is cared for through faculty that care. Much like in any relationship, communication is key and an understanding that it takes both party's involvement to make this journey successful. Students are challenged at Alta Vista to rise above what the culture says and to reach for their dreams. I am a Freshman at Alta vista high School and I must say it's an extremely enjoyable experience so far! No cliques, no huge classrooms (we certainly do NOT have 40 students per class), the teachers go by material at a steady pace, the food is usually healthy, and you can ensure your/your student's future is bright. You can tell by the way the principal speaks that they really care about your success. The only thing missing is a cafeteria, library, and a field. However, we take a SCHOOL bus to the local YMCA and for P.E. there while boys go to a different place, also on school bus. You feel comfortable with your teachers and they are easy to approach for help. They have many clubs and a cheerleading team and small pep assemblies. It's small (around 500 students total) but a pretty great place to learn.

I would like to address some points from the negative comments below. First, the lunch program. It is true that before we used to have to pay for our own lunches; but we now have free lunches that the government pays for. Secondly, the tranportation issues for a P.E class. We do NOT take the city bus. We take a school bus. Our school is not equipt with a gym, so we have to go off campus. With that being said, I would like to say that the teachers and staff are the best! They truely do care about the students. Whether it be extra help on school work, or just to talk, they are always there for you. I think that is what other schools lack. In my opinion, because AVHS has suh a kind teaching and administrative staff, that it makes us a better quality school. I STRONGELY reccomend you enroll your son or daughter at AVHS. You and your child will not regret it. :)

Pros - I have worked here for a while and truly enjoy it! I have wonderful coworkers and the students are full of life! The teachers are highly qualified and the paraprofessionals are also degreed. We continue to improve AIMS scores and our graduation rate is high compared to many high schools. For an education focused on core studies - reading, writing, and math - this is a great school! Minor Cons - As a small school, the class variety is limited. With 12 rooms and an off campus gym, only so many classes can be offered at a time. The foreign language choice is only Spanish, and Art (drawing, book-making, painting) and Drama are the main fine arts courses taught. Guitar has been offered in the past but is dependent upon having a qualified teacher. The biggest complaints I hear from students concern dress and technology. Students should dress appropriately - tucked in, pants pulled up, girls properly covered. Phones and music devices are not to be used in the classroom and are confiscated when necessary. Most students do not have an issue with these though because they understand that dress and technology have an effect on a person's attitude and focus in a learning environment.

The teachers use a data-driven testing model to inform curricular decisions. This means that students receive individual and immediate feedback, and instruction is customized to support weaknesses. The school uses the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) system for infractions which results in positive interactions even when students mess up. Overall, the school is a pleasant place to work where education is treated seriously.

Alta Vista is the best school I have ever attend the teachers really like what there doing. The History teacher at Alta Vista is one of the best men at that school he really care always there for you when you have any question. Alta Vista is amazing school I really recommend that for any student that are entering freshmen year or any high school grade level. The office staff is so of the most amazing people in the world always there for you never deny anything. The principal is also highly educated really cares about her students education. she is a quick problem solver. I attended orientation and so far it seems like a good school. The principal and staff show that they care about the students and will work hard to do what ever it takes to make them excel. I liked that. The principle is there and greets the students in the morning as they come in. She knows them all by their first name so that right there tells you she is on top of things to start off. We will see what happens as the school year goes on. I hope it continues the way it seems to be so far. My son said his teacher is very smart and kept the class interesting so they would not lose focus on what they were learning. Awesome!! :0) Keep it up!! Alta Vista.

Alta Vista High School is considered to be a performing school by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE). Since the opening in 2003, Alta Vista has continued to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). AYP is determined by student performance in AIMS, graduation rate and drop-out rate.
