Da Vinci Tree Academy

I was looking for one school for all of my children. I have kids who are academically advanced but I also have kids who are special needs. Da Vinci Tree AAcademy is one of those rare places that take care of all their kids. Da Vinci helped my oldest get into University High, ONE OF THE BEST HIGH SCHOOLS IN AMERICA!

My younger kids have had great experiences in their classrooms. In kinder and first they were already reading and doing difficult math. In the middle grades my kids are doing sports and art in addition to having strong academics. THere's two teachers in every class and plenty of support for my two kids with IEPs. The vice principal (and sometimes the principal) are pretty easy to get ahold of and talk to. You can tell that the staff really care.

They are not afraid to discipline kids. They keep good kids like mine safe, but also keep them in line when they cause trouble. The campus is a little rundown, but that isn't what matters. five stars!

This school is not the same as it was a few years ago.

The biggest change has been in the kindergarten and first grade program. Losing the teachers they had was a huge mistake, and I know a lot of parents who have lost confidence in those grades because of what happened. I personally would not feel comfortable sending another young child into the current kindergarten program. The teacher they chose as a replacement is awful. She often says age-inappropriate things, acts overly emotional at times, and constantly yells at kids, especially special ed students.

It’s really sad because there are still some amazing teachers here who care so much about the kids, but it feels like leadership is driving the good ones away. Every year more experienced teachers leave, and you have to wonder why.

My family and I have been with this school since 2021 and I can honestly say it's the only school we will ever want our kids to go to. The school puts the students first when it comes to security with teachers personally getting to know parents and forming a relationship with the kids and their families so they instantly know who picks up who. The principal really puts the kids first because it's a rare sight to see a school principal going out of his way to get to know all the students at the school and conversing with them, as well as teaching a few classes himself.

The school for now is still growing and has a lot of potential for a lot more changes. They recently incorporated clubs which our kids really enjoyed and they went home raving about it! Mr. Bowers, the STEM instructor goes out of his way to get to know each of his student's skills and strengths and assigning them tasks that would further help develop said skills or learn new ones. Da Vinci Tree Academy is not just a school, it's a place where students are shown that learning can be fun and school is not just a place of learning. One of my older kids came home talking non-stop about the new turtles added to the other turtles already there and the goats were adorable and they kept asking us to get one!

All in all, Da Vinci Tree Academy has given our family a chance to experience learning in a nurturing environment. Our eldest who recently graduated last year got into UHS for her high school, all thanks to the quality of education Da Vinci Tree Academy has given her. We can't ask for a more better school to send our kids to.

I really like this school. My children have been going to DVTA since they opened, and they are excited to try out for UHS (best high school in Tucson). My kids are looking at going to college already too, and they're just in elementary and middle school... Awesome. The kids go to school with kids from other backgrounds. I have one child who had special needs, but all of my kids are in classrooms with special needs kids. Children with special needs are accepted and encouraged to participate in everyday activities. My special needs child got the support he needed and was able to graduate off of his IEP last year.

I like that they talk to the kids about careers that don't require college. Most charter schools that try to be high performing just push college. That's okay, and DDVTA does talk a lot about college, but it isn't for everyone. The kids go to field trips to learn about trade jobs like construction and welding as well as marine biology and medicine. I like that my kids are learning that they have choices and that everyone is different, and that is okay.

Most of all, I like that my kids are forced to work. Da Vinci isn't like these other places that pass kids along when they aren't working. DVTA retains kids at grade level UNTIL THEY WORK! Then, if a child is retained but starts working hard, they will actually push them back into the grade level they were originally in with their friends. Several of my kids friends had this happen to them. It makes sure that all the kids are there for the same reason, to learn and to learn to work!
