Negative Covid test and the refused to let my son return to school. I transfered him to a different school to further continue his education, since the school is lacking in every aspect.

Due to the location I was concerned about moving to the GATE program, however, it was one of the best decisions we made for our children! They are receiving more well-rounded education than if they were attending their neighborhood school. Once you get used to the campus you realize that the location is not an issue and worth the hassle. There are so many opportunities outside of the classroom - unusual for an elementary school - chess club, journalism club, drama (amazing program!!), news cast, music, glee club, cheer, and more. If your child is accepted to the program, I would encourage you to visit the school, talk with some parents and students, and give a try. It's not for everyone and it's not perfect, but nothing is...

The amount of homework my son receives is reasonable and if we have a home conflict the teachers are always willing to work with me/us. The homework that is assigned is not just more worksheets, more likely a portion of a project that they are working on, a re-draft of an essay, the explanation of an inspirational quote, and then studying for a test occasionally.

In the GATE program, we have had nothing but teachers who are willing to go above and beyond. Love that we have separate/additional teachers for science and computer labs, that the children attend weekly. Thru the grapevine, I heard of an ineffective GATE teacher, and the teacher was not there the following year.

I rate this neutral because sometimes I'm not clear if there are 2 missions at this school (GATE track and traditional students) or if administration tries to figure out how to manage 2 different populations of children with different needs. The principal is passionate, but has a lot to manage. The district has quarterly GATE parent meetings and seem open to listening to concerns or suggestions.

For the most part, the GATE students are one "click" - these kids go to school together from 2nd-6th grade - the same 40-50 kids so they get tight. There is sometimes tension between the GATE students and the traditional students, but seems to be an individual case by case basis. There is no tolerance and the administration certainly wants to keeps the children in a safe learning environment.

I am a student and just moved here and I was pretty nervous at first but everyone was so friendly and now I love it here!
