No accountability. No proactive parent communication about inappropriate student behaviors and bullying. Kids are NOT under control and are allowed to be incredibly disruptive in their classrooms. All levels of administration take the generic approach to handling parental concerns. Not only is this school doing well below state averages for student outcomes academically, but they are not maintaining their own policies on bullying, harassment behaviors, and disruptive students. Although subject-matter teachers are very "nice", they have no discernible power or ability to hold students accountable for ANY actions. You must watch and listen carefully to your child if they attend any in-person classes at this facility. Be prepared that if you address a concern about the treatment of your child, or the disruptive nature of another student in their class, including outright bullying and harassment, you will not be addressed in a meaningful way by any of the school administrators. They will delay, delay, delay, then deflect and dismiss your concerns and hide under the cloak of the "other" students' right to be there and act in this manner, regardless of the detriment to your child. They are okay with losing a good student, in favor of keeping a disturbed one. Your child's safety and education are not the priority here, unless your child is the bully and disruptive one.

I am going on 16 years using this school. 2 of my 3 children have graduated from Gorman. My last child going into 10th grade this year. I can't think of any other school I would use. I've had the same PLT/IST from the beginning. She knows my kids very well. Makes sure they have everything they need and is available pretty much anytime. The resource center is just that an added resource where they can take enrichment classes, go for additional tutoring and take fun classes such as art. Or learn leadership skills in ASB.

School gives each student everything needed to succeed. Whether it be a chromebook to do online work, to free tutoring either at resource center or sending a tutor to the home. They even pay for tutoring apps so a student can use their phone for help in certain subjects.

Teachers at this school are more than just teachers. Once enrolled you have the same PLT until a student graduates or leaves the school. Teachers become friends.

While I wouldn't say leadership is bad. I do feel that each area is not equally represented. Area meaning geographically. As far as resource centers go.

School uses a variety of curriculum. They understand not all kids learn the same. PLT's work hard with families to ensure student has what they need to succeed.

School has a no bullying policy and it stands 100% by that policy.

Was great its a team work between parents, teachers and students but the main responsibility for our students to learn depends on our discipline and our diligent to help our students at home to achieve the knowledge they need.After all its a homeschool, they provided the tools we help them at home to succeed.

This is my first year homeschooling, and my daughter's first year of school -- Kindergarten. She attends the learning center in Santa Clarita and it has been a very positive experience so far. Her teacher, Mrs. Shifely, is so friendly and efficient. She emails parents weekly detailing what was covered in class, and also to give us any reminders about events. (This is such a help to parents, when all I can get out of my kid is "Recess was great. I ate all my lunch." :) I love that even though we are homeschooling, my daughter still gets class parties, school friends, musical programs, music class, school carnivals, etc. The money they give for curriculum and extracarricular classes (about $1,000 / year) was totally sufficient for this year, but I feel it may not be enough as she gets into older grades. However, the one day a week of school would cost about $1,000 a semester otherwise, so I really don't think I would get more for our money elsewhere. My IST (Ms. Ebner) is very efficient, always answers my emails promptly, and has just generally been the greatest help in this new transition for us as a family. I would recommend Gorman to anyone who doesn't want to do homeschool all on their own.

I really do love this school. It is primarily independent study, but my junior high student can attend the learning center two days each week. It is a nice compromise. I want to homeschool, but I also want him to have the opportunity to socialize. He takes his math classes at the learning center, which is great because I don't feel qualified to help him in this department. He tests very well, so I feel like his educational needs are being met. As long as I am on him, checking his calendar, and making sure he is doing his independent study work on the three days each week that he does not attend classes, he keeps up just fine. In fact, I think he is ahead of the game. I work and don't have to sit and do work with him. I just have to check and make sure he did it after I get home each day. If he starts struggling in a subject area, I just call up the school and sign him up for tutoring. It is great.

For a good kid, Gorman Learning Center is the perfect school. You child will have a teacher involved as well as his or her parent(s). I reccomend it. I learned more here than anywhere else. It's easy going and constructive.

I am so glad I decided to pull my daughter out of her traditional public school and enroll her at Gorman. Her IST Mrs. Skalla is top notch and is always available if help is needed. My daughter loves this school, has plenty of opportunities for socialization, and the Santa Clarita Learning Center is amazing. The teachers there are dedicated and caring. My daughter learns more in her one day/ week the Santa Clarita Learning Center than she did the entire week at her previous school. Monthly field trips such as whale watching, Los Angeles Museums, and Legoland are an added bonus. I would recommend Gorman to anyone looking for an alternative to traditional public schools.

OH YEA AND reviews by actual students can be more effective because they are eyewitnesses of whats going on, and parents can only view from afar. But of course if a parent notices their child smarter thats good too.

My children have been attending Gorman sine 3rd grade and I must say that it has been very rewarding t see them grow academically, physically and emotionally. Their IST, K. Haloviak, has always been supportive and attentive to their needs. Both of my children will be graduating this year and plan to attend a university seeking careers in the medical field. I encourage any parent that want to take an active part in the education of their children, academically and emotionally, to enroll them in this program. It is well organized, and it provides the parent with the unique opportunity to teach their children according to their own unique learning modality.

We have been very happy here for several years. It scores lower on state testing because many of the families don't "teach to the test" as in traditional public schools but the level of curriculum is top notch. The staff really cares about the students.

My child has attended Gorman Learning Center for the last three years. GLC gives our family the perfect blend of homeschooling with the additional benefits of a traditional school experience. We enjoy the tailored curriculum, flexibility & freedom of homeschooling along with the expert guidance, formal instruction & socialization of the more traditional school experience. My son looks forward to the two days per week he attends classes with his peers & loves his IST & the interest she takes in his education. The ability to order different curriculum from year to year keeps boredom at bay & allows him to get advanced materials in varied subjects. Additionally, GLC offers tutoring, online classes, field trips, yearbooks & classes thru outside vendors. The principal of the AV Learning Center is approachable & friendly & her own children attend the school. Improvements I would make would be more varied electives from year to year at the AVLC (including PE), more local vendor choices, better communication re: field trips & even yearbook coverage of all classes, clubs & students. My son feels part of the GLC family & I predict he will continue to attend until he heads off to college. :)

Terrible, unorganized, not supportive, lame teachers who never get you the materials promised. Two years we wasted using this program.

We are very happy with the Gorman Learning Center in Santa Clarita for our high school daughter. We find the classes that she takes there straightforward, yet challenging. The teachers are excellent. The environment is positive. We find the combination of onsite Gorman class for the more "difficult" classes and homeschool for online/workbooks study along with the guidance of a Independent Study Teacher a great option for us. The classes are small like a private school, yet there is no tuition!
