Disgraceful school. You can beg for months for your child’s disability to be recognized, talk to them about behaviors to expect, ask and ask for assistance with behavior plans or specific accommodations… and you will be ignored until the exact behaviors you talked about for months become “problematic” for them. They will suspend and give detention for nearly any reason, tell you that your child should just be able to act, think, and behave like the other children because they are a certain age. They’ll agree to help, sign a 504 (after 8 months of begging for help), and still suspend your child or give suspensions for the same exact issues they need help with.

This is discrimination and targeting if I’ve ever seen it. My kiddo is a model citizen in every other area of life and in every other school attended, due to their ability to bring out the best in kids.

I’ve watched videos and witnessed principal and front desk staff scream at children for misbehaving. The front desk staff screamed at my kid to get off his phone and threatened to take it in the office when I called about an emergency pick up and that I was there to pick up and be ready.

The principal has screamed in kids faces and puffed his chest out while demanding that they follow his direction.

Homework is a nightmare to figure out. If there’s death in the family or illness, good luck having an excused absence.

Just a failure of a school. I wish I never brought my kid here.

I go to this school now because I transferred from Margarita Middle School which a school I do not recommend if you want your kid safe, and I love it so much!!!!!!!

i just moved here and this school is really cool! the kids treated me very kindly and make me feel welcome. there is always that one group of kids that can be rude, but its okay. the staff here is nice and the principal always greets us when we walk through the gates :)

the reason why the review is kinda low is because of the homework and one of the teachers. im not going to say a name, but he did not deal with bullying very well. there was also these kids that cursed at me just for bumping into them on accident?

My student was miserable at this school we stuck it out for 3 years but please think about sending your student someone else especially if they are a minority. I have other children and will request a transfer to avoid going to this school again

Racial undertones at this school, leadership denies because "theres no evidence"
Students who are minorities are called racial slurs and teased
Nothing is being done its sickening

The principal is cordial and easy to reach but he really needs to do something about how the teachers treat the kids.

Not effective at all
Students are bullied especially if they are a minority

I love James L. Day middle school. We just moved here beginning of this year during end of last semester. My son was so nervous. The staff and the students made his transition very positive. They have a group of kids they make sure to talk & check up on the new kids. My son was never alone even on his first day. I appreciate them so much for making sure my son never felt alone. The teachers were easy to communicate with and my son is thriving with his grades. Thank you so much to all the staff and students who made our experience amazing. I wish the high schools did the same.

This school is awesome. Some of the kids do swear a lot, especially the 8th graders. All my teachers are awesome. Mrs. Halic, Mrs. Sykes, Mr. Juhl, Mrs. Davidson, Mrs. Prevo, and Ms. McNeill.

The principal has a lot to learn when it comes to dealing with students and families. He is very unprofessional; instead of finding solutions he would rather avoid problems entirely. Don't count on this principal for any support whatsoever.

Overall, it is not a terrible school as it does have potential. There are teachers who care about their students, but there is room for improvement when it comes to leadership at this school. I do not believe the principal has the slightest clue on how to effectively communicate and inspire change. A school can only be as good as its leader...too bad.

My son has earns top grades but never has any homework: not challenged

Posted: March 15, 2018

Some are terrific but many focus on busy work that leaves my son with long stretches with nothing to do in class

Posted: March 15, 2018

My child was recently bullied by a group of more than ten boys using homophobic epithets and nothing has been done

Posted: March 15, 2018

Principle is a martinet who does not view students holistically and will not take responsibility for his mistakes..

Posted: March 15, 2018

My son was bullied by a group of boys two weeks ago and the incident has not even been investigated despite my immediate request that action be taken.

Posted: March 15, 2018

School with tremendous potential but poorly led and not committed to addressing bullying issues

We have experienced so many wonderful teachers who go out of their way to help our son succeed. All care so much about his success.

The way the teachers and staff conduct themselves is such a powerful example for our kids. Also the school supports many great clubs that help support the kids.

My School is James L. Day Middle School in Temecula, CA. DMS has the best Principle and Staff. They really are there for the students and parents. They have one of the best coral programs anywhere. The some of the teachers have been there since the school openned they dont want to teach anywhere else. I'm proud to be member of the DMS family.
