My experience with Stella I. Hills Elementary School was extremely disappointing. My biggest concerns were the poor school leadership, weak teaching quality, ineffective student support, and lack of accountability.
In my experience, Principal Steve Robinson demonstrated serious weaknesses in management, follow-up, and responsiveness. When important student concerns were reported, the administration often redirected us to the teacher instead of taking ownership of the problem. After speaking with teachers, concerns were frequently acknowledged, but little meaningful action or follow-up occurred. This created an environment where responsibility seemed to be passed from one person to another while the student's problem continued.
I was also very disappointed with the quality and professionalism of some teachers. Based on my personal observations, some appeared unmotivated, poorly responsive, weak in classroom management, and insufficiently attentive to individual student needs. The overall academic and professional standard was far below what I expected from an elementary school.
My experience with the school's therapist/emotional-support staff was even more concerning. In my opinion, the support provided showed poor practical judgment and did not demonstrate the level of competence, understanding, or effectiveness required when working with a vulnerable child. Instead of helping, some interactions left me concerned that they could make an already difficult emotional situation worse.
Bullying, arguments, and conflicts among students also appeared to be far too common. Fighting and bullying should never become a normal part of a school environment, yet I did not see the strong, consistent intervention that families should expect.
Overall, I experienced a school with weak leadership, ineffective management, poor accountability, disappointing teaching quality, inadequate emotional support, and serious problems with student discipline and bullying.
Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Stella I. Hills Elementary School. Major improvements are urgently needed in leadership, teacher accountability, student safety, bullying prevention, and emotional-support services.

If your student is in special education or has an IEP, I strongly recommend you find another school. Its a scavenger hunt everyday just trying to get them into the school. Youll either wait at a gate or in the office until theyre late before someone comes to get them. Itll be a different person everyday by the way. When trying to talk to the principal or asst principal who are both very cocky men theyll just laugh in your face and dismiss you. If there is any issue, they wont have a conversation or address it. The principal will just remind you hes been a principal for 20 years. Based on the test scores you can see it hasnt been a successful 20 years. When it comes to education, its not there. Your child will be placed into classroom that range multiple different grade levels so its basically just daycare.

Four of my grandchildren attended a STEM Academy in Ventura County, which is currently rated 7/10. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to transfer to Stella Hills Elementary. Moving forward, they all love their new school, and I appreciate the safety precautions implemented to ensure every students well-being. However, I am concerned that Stella Hills has received a rating of 2/10.
Every school should have a STEM program and other initiatives to promote and foster interest in higher learning. As an LAUSD employee, I have seen a strong emphasis on students achieving higher education, from grade school through high school, particularly through initiatives like College Day. Children need to know that they can achieve anything they want in life.

I cant really give a recommendation of Stella Hills, based on the test scores. My 4 great grandchildren attend this school and are about to finish the 2023-2024 school year. They transferred in from a STEM School in Ventura County. I hope they continue at a level that will make them ready for the next school year. Test scores dont appear to be up to par, and that is troublesome.

With the arrival of the new principal things have since changed, but more improvements are definetly necessary.

I am a citizen and am assisting my wife in finding the bell schedule for the school. It is not on the schools website. This type of information should be on a schools website. Furthermore, the website does not include any pictures and has limited information. It does not appear much effort is being made to utilize technology with the schools website. This leaves a bad first impression of the school.
