While the teachers say they want to work with you and do respond in a somewhat timely manner, if you find out your child is struggling the teacher he had said she was going to compile a list for us to work on and then told my son in class to work on one subject at a time instead of sending everything home so we can work on different subjects. My son has reported that their lunches are always cold and as a result taste like its been sitting out for a long time. They basically get no warm lunches so a lot of food gets thrown out. During recess the yard aides dont let the kids relax in the shade if its hot out. They expect kids to play the whole time even during triple digit weather! If youre late picking up your child they make them wait outside the office, even during bad/hot weather. Kids try to wait in the office because its hot and the office people make them go back outside in the heat, even if the children are completely quiet. Their communication overall is extremely delayed so you will need to call the office to get any information otherwise they send out information the night before or after the fact. Last minute the principal emailed that the school received funds to send all kids in 2 months for a week which is for 3 days of the week and the number of students attending depends on how many chaperones can go. What about teachers? How can you get funding to take all students but then give such a limited window to complete the forms, have chaperones apply (process is 2 month process), and its first come process so if not enough chaperones not all students can go. They give absolutely no time for parents to make arrangements or give consideration for all kids to make it to Camp Keep.

I love Owens primary. The teachers seem to really care and their willing to work with the children.

My daughter was bullied for the whole year last year. I had to keep going up there and they said they was gone handle it my daughter was spit in her face.. Push off the slide... Called names hair getting pulled she didnt want to go to school.. I had to talk to the little girl and ask her why was she doing all this and bulling was wrong and i invited her to my daughter party and they been good friends every since

To some of the teachers its about a pay check not rather the student is learning or not they could care less

The GATE program for the district is here. That program is AMAZING. I can't speak for the general education segment of the school, as it is a very high poverty area and probably has all of the issues poorer schools have. But within the GATE program, it's state of the art.
