Stockdale is alright, the teachers are pretty good in my experience. However, the rest of their staff is rude and "snobbish" as the rest of the reviews are saying. They often make me feel guilty just for checking in or out for doctors appointments. And there is a huge bullying problem. Many instances of bullying have been brought up with no punishment to the bully. Cases of harassment, physical harm, verbal attacks, and even sexual assault, yet the attackers never get so much as a detention. At least in the MANY instances I've seen. It's gotten to the point where things will happen to some people and they won't want to tell faculty because they won't do anything, it'd just cause more drama. All that happens is drama spread among cliques. The dean will offer a no contact order, which is like the school's version of a restraining order. Nobody follows these however and it just puts a band-aid on the problem. The school lunch is usually pretty good (for school food), though.

Horrible school do not send your children there! Save yourself the headaches, the school staff is horrible. Everyone from the principal to administrative personally are horrible. If parents get treated poorly imagine the students. They all act like they are so much better than everyone and anyone else. Defenitley do not reccomend!

The most academic school in town. My two kids and sister graduated from here. I highly recommend this school to parents for their kids.

I received an excellent education from Stockdale. I was not only prepared academically, but I was also able to participate in many strong extracurricular activities that helped me excel in higher education. I have a doctorate now and fondly remember my time in high school. Great teachers, lots of diversity... high school is what you make it, but Stockdale easily offers the best education in Bakersfield.

Stockdale High School excels in educating students who are interested in being educated, especially when it includes full parental involvement. I believe that the reviewer's who gave the school only one star, must be parents who expect the school to do what they themselves should be doing. Get involved in your child's education and turn the TV, Phones, Internet and other distractions off. Instead of complaining start to notice how many students are excelling and ask yourself why your little darling is not doing well... We moved our student to Stockdale High School and she didn't know anyone attending the school, not the staff, not students - nobody. Two years later, she has been massively challenged by the higher level courses, but she has learned better study skills, learned to make friends from all sectors, learned to get help when she needed it and most of all, she learned that in order to get a good education at this school or any other school, a student needs to give it all they have. If your kid is not participating in any of the clubs, does not take advantage of the homework help during lunch or after school, isn't talking to their counselor, and never brings home more than 30 minutes of homework, the problem just might be related to these things and not the school, which by the way, has the highest number of students taking and passing the SAT in Kern County and much of the State.

Easily the most academic school in Bakersfield. I understand the perception that the school is cliquey but it is much better about being inclusive than the other schools on the West side like Liberty or Centennial. I have never been tutored outside and have found the teachers of the AP / Honors courses to be excellent. I love the diversity of this school and how welcoming people seem to be. If you are looking for a school with the best academic extracurriculars (Acadec, Mock Trial, Speech and Debate, Science Bowl) in townand can handle a very challenging course load I would recommend Stockdale in a heart beat.

Teachers are as effective as you allow them to be. While the school has some duds, the AP teachers, our history department and upper level math courses have some of the best teachers in town.

Stockdale does not offer students the education that they deserve. I would not recommend this school to students who wish to pursue an advanced education or a child who struggles academically as the staff and administration show no interest in the students' abilities or potential. The teachers at this school do not show any concern for their students' progress and refuse to help those who require extra help. Additionally, they are no help to their advanced students either. The teachers simply do not teach, leaving the average and remedial students behind, and causing the advanced students to have no choice but to seek outside help from academic tutors in order to stay ahead. Unless you are going to pay thousands of dollars in tutoring fees, your child will not succeed here. The staff will not help you prepare for AP tests or the SATs. I agree with the previous review; the administration is quite snobbish and refuses to take blame for the many things wrong with this school.

Principal should work to improve the snobby attitudes of staff and many students at Stockdale. It's a shame that so many good kids go into this school enthusiastic and end up either pretentious or alienated. My husband and I are both PhDs and we're rather disappointed with the campus climate. Unfortunately I must agree with the reviewer that said "you must be rich to fit in"...students in this district deserve better!
