As a parent, I am very disappointed with this school. Over the past two years my daughter has experienced repeated racist behavior, and it has been very concerning to see that this type of conduct seems to be tolerated rather than seriously addressed. My daughter is not the only child who has experienced racism here, which makes the situation even more troubling. It is also very telling that Google reviews appear to be disabled, which raises questions about transparency. In my opinion, the principal does not show the leadership needed to manage a multicultural school or to uphold the values the school claims to promote. Families are asked to make donations, yet the school appears very poor in many aspects. This school has potential, but until racism is taken seriously and stronger leadership is in place, I cannot recommend it.

This school sadly has a practice of pushing out students who do not fit into the mainstream. Students are routinely advised to enter the school’s homeschool program, especially if they are neurodivergent or need extra help.

What the other reviewer said about the director not following the nonviolent communication practices that the school teaches is true. Sadly this person is retaliatory and at the end of the day seems concerned about herself, not the well-being of children at the school.

We have attended this school for over five years. If your child is very mainstream and typical, you may be OK. Some of the teachers are really extraordinary and you could be lucky to get them. But having had the experiences we’ve had, I can’t recommend this school.

After some really negative experiences with bullying at another school, we gave our daughter the opportunity to try VCS starting in 3rd grade. She chose to change schools without hesitation and we have not looked back. I am an educator with decades of experience visiting schools and classrooms around Ventura. While there is always an element of the luck of the draw regarding a teacher and the student make-up of any class, our daughter’s experience has been almost wholly positive since her first day. She left 2nd grade defeated, hating school, below grade-level in math and tearful everyday. However, from orientation through her first week at VCS there were clear signs that she was starting to enjoy school again. Thanks to the VCS community, 5 years later she is a thriving and confident 8th grader who is performing above grade-level and on the leadership committee. The whole school works hard at building community, connecting each student’s interests to the curriculum, promoting mindfulness and an open-mind set. Students learn best when they feel included, supported and safe at school. VCS as a whole, does a great job using evidence-based methods to support student social-emotional wellness, while providing individualized and stimulating educational experiences. Compared to many other schools, I have been especially impressed with their handling of COVID-19 distance learning and return to campus, which has been an unprecedented challenge for everyone.

We love this school. Both our daughters have been here since Kindergarten and it has only been a positive experience for our family. Great teachers and administration.

We are so stoked on this school. The teachers are excellent and the families we have met and become friends with also understand our way of parenting and are so supportive. We love that the administration is always involved and helpful in supporting our family and others -- in a respectful fashion. And, we've learned a lot about NVC from everyone there. SO grateful that we have this school in our neighborhood. Only wish is that more parents could be involved in the class.

We are so glad we found Ventura Charter School 5 years ago. The school's community meets the needs of our entire family. The teachers are outstanding and are often recognized for their project-based learning activities by being awarded with the County's Impact II grants. Our children thrive under the careful and nurturing instruction of their teachers and fellow parents who volunteer in the classroom. Volunteering gives us the opportunity to have a finger on the pulse of how our children are doing academically and emotionally. We believe a student's success hinges on the cooperative effort of the teachers, students, parents, and administration. That has been and will always be our focus. We are grateful for Ventura Charter School. As with any online reviews, though I suggest you come check it out for yourself- take a tour of the school, talk with the parents on campus and make an informed decision based on what you experience.

I've had three children attend Ventura Charter School. I am pleased to report our positive experiences. Our oldest is now in college and reflects back on her years spent here with fondness. Some of her favorite childhood memories involve her teachers, friends, and experiences from Ventura Charter and she's even mentioned she can't wait until she has children that can attend. Our youngest is 8 and is currently enrolled. The teachers are cream of the crop. With innovative curriculum and kind hearts. Our family couldn't ask for a better way to educate our children.

Ventura Charter School has undergone serious decline. Teachers who can't spell, children disciplined with draconian and dangerous methods, an autocratic administration presided over by two completely incompetent women - this is what the Ventura Charter School has become. Parental input is neither solicited nor considered in decisions that directly affect parents and their students, and the administration has proven unresponsive to attempts at negotiation, compromise, and working toward mutually beneficial solutions between the administration and parents. Children as young as 6 are isolated and confined for punishment, and parents bringing concerns about this treatment are dismissed with contempt. The administration is hostile toward the spirit of consensus that the school was founded upon, with the seeming end of reinforcing the autocratic paradigm they have established at VCS. One of the greatest risks is that your child, in finding it impossible to respect these types of "adults", will lose regard for educators and the educational process in general. Look elsewhere for community-based, collaborative education.

Don't be fooled by all the hype. This school is not great, and without changes at the top, the future of Ventura Charter School is questionable. See the school not with your eyes, but with your heart. If something does not feel right, do not think twice about your other options. I wish I had known before what I know now. Some teachers are good, some are not, and both of the "Directors" are inept. This school prides itself on non-violent communication and I have yet to hear either one of them use it. Labeling children is the standard here, and really vivacious and enthusiastic children are oppressed. Social ostracization is permitted and indirectly encouraged. Parent's concerns are ignored, and when one makes irrefutable points the conversation is quickly terminated by staff and/or administration. Changes made are autocratic and without consultation. Many families have left here very hurt and disappointed. I write this in hopes that YOU will not be one of them. I also write this to ask those that have left to write-in about your thoughts so our community can make informed decisions, because we have experienced things that others have not.

Soo pleased we are here! The "Whole Child, Whole Citizen" approach is what this world needs and exactly what I want for our family. They encourage true participation as an excellent introduction to learning, social and emotional integration, and responsibility, both for the child and the family. Not easy but crucial for the best of educations.

Is an excellent alternative to traditional academic institutions and ideologies in education. Their program is based on educating the "whole child" by addressing the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs of K-8 students. With instruction in arts, science and community service students and community members embrace non violent communication, conflict resolution, community building and global awareness. If you are looking for a progressive school where the administrators, directors and teachers care about more than test scores. Ventura Charter School of Arts and Global Education is an institution where your child can grow beyond expectations and where their potential will be nuorished daily.

My child was only able to be at this school for one year. But she and I loved it! All other schools she has been to just do not compare. The teachers were great, the methods of teaching are outstanding and the parent involvement puts the school over the top.
