Front staff is confrontational. I was yelled at in front of students and my children for asking a question in the office. Very disappointed they would hire people that act that way. Can't believe they would raise their voice and want to start a fight for what could have just been a normal conversation. Disgusting behavior.

This school does not follow the ZERO tolerance bullying like the rest of MVUSD. My son has been bullied for 2 years now and the principal's idea of fixing the issue to put the kids on no contact contract without doing any research first. When this year's incident happened I called the school and they were supposed to look at the footage and address the issue, 2 days later nothing had been done so my husband walk into the school to find out what was going on. Neither the councilor nor the principal had looked into what happened. Long story short I had to take our issues to the school district because the staff here is lazy and complicit. If you want your kids to be safe find a different middle school.

I have 2 twins. They were in 2 different classes. Both of their teachers were exceptional. They were amazing teachers and helped my boys come so far in regard to their speech and preparing them for Highschool. These teachers obviously love their jobs and go above and beyond to make learning a memorable experience for the kids.

My son had the pleasure of attending Shivela and I cannot recommend it highly enough! The faculty and staff are incredibly dedicated to providing a top-notch education to all students. Their commitment to student success is evident in the individual attention and support they provide to each student. The facilities are modern and well-maintained, creating a comfortable and conducive learning environment. The curriculum is engaging, providing students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in any field they choose. Overall, my son had an outstanding experience at Shivela and I am grateful for the knowledge and skills he gained there.

Ok school, most students do dr*gs and get into fights, school doesn't really do anything about it. I been to this school and i prefer going to somewhere else.

I used to go to this school and the bullying was bad not horrible depending on the student but still, the teachers handled it the best they could but it was still out of hand most of the time because of students being anxious of telling any adults or because of their own reason. This semester (2022) all my friends say that the aids follow the students like everywhere to dress code them because last year they wouldnÂ’t dress code at all. Also the mirrors in the bathroom and locker rooms are gone for whatever reason (could have returned but I havenÂ’t heard). Some of the teachers have a short temper or arenÂ’t patient (*some*). The principal is cool, the counselors are pretty cool too, just the aids and a few teachers that are annoying or off.

BULLYING IS MAJOR PROBLEM. School does address, but writes in their student handbook. GROUP IDENTIFICATION Is too high. School is out of touch with bullying. School district should get involved with this school.

Ok, wish I was going somewhere else where character mattered and there weren't distractions. Junior high is supposed to be tough, but bullying, group identification and discipline are core problems. Not enough electives. The in-parent crowd/politics seem to enjoy this school. School needs to discipline bad kids appropriately, not give him hugs and tell them to do better. POOR MANAGEMENT EXECUTION

Some good, some fair teachers. Some teachers go above and beyond, some don't do much
Posted: April 25, 2018
Wow, strongly disagree. physical fights weekly, bullying, and profanity laced environment don't account for strong character.

Haven't seen any leadership form parent perspective. My child believes school doesn't address student issues appropriately, out of touch with current generation.

School does not communicate well with parents regarding students. Very disappointed. emailed counselor on multiple occasions, NO RESPONSE. Called school on one occasion, NO RESPONSE. No appropriate follow up for issues Brought up.

Really not very good at all. My daughter has been here for almost two tears in advanced classes and we are really disappointed. The teacher's disinterest is palpable. Apparently they pick a few favorites and focus their attention on those students to the detriment of all others. They do not send home rubric for any assignments and can not be bothered to update their portal websites with the information. They respond to phone calls or e-mails with one sentence responses again just bad. Sara Hogan is my daughters advanced language arts teacher and is really the worst we've seen yet. Very rigid in terms of what she expects from students yet lacks clarity in assigned work and can't be bothered to do the most rudimentary maintenance of her student portal.

My daughter is currently attending Shivela MS, she is in 7th grade. As a sixth grade parent I was terrified of sending her to any middle school. Whenever I would talk to parents I would receive two distinct reactions when I would say my Daughter was attending Shivela 1-" Shivela?! Oh I hear there are a lot of fights" or 2- "Oh my son/daughter went there, they had a great experience!" So needless to say I was very confused and nervous that 5th to 6th grade summer.
Well now that we are in the home stretch of 7th grade and prepping for 8th, I can honestly say without a doubt we ( my daughter and I) are happy with this school! she has had a wonderful experience so far.
With the new principal this year things are even better. He really engages with the kids. Allows them to use their cell phones at break and lunch which the kids love. He even utilizes that as a form of communication with the kids sending "Shout Outs" via text. He has scavenger hunts for the kids and a DJ during lunch. My daughter LOVES it! So much school spirit.
As for the teachers I have been happy with most of them in both grades honestly, Maybe with the exception of two. All in all great experience.

This school is by far a great school. Previous posts from years past shouldn't even be considered. My son is in 6th grade and was home schooled the last two years. So, of course I was nervous sending him here after reading some of the older reviews. Like any good mom, I asked a ton of questions and moved forward with enrolling him at Shivela. I am very pleased with the school ! We are going into month 3 since he started there and he loves it. Kids are very friendly and there haven't been any problems. Teachers are also very good. We are happy with the decision we made.

I would just like to say most of these post are from 1-5 years ago. The teachers here are great but there are a few bad apples, just as any other school. I have been here for two years and in 7th grade and i have not seen or heard about a single fight. I also have a 1350 SRI which is about 11-12 grade reading level so i can honestly say that i have hardly had any problems EVER so this is a different time and era so dont listen to like the 7 reviews that say there are fights left and right and that its unsafe... I think others should know that this school has a lot of fights.I like the counselors, they were nice and friendly.I think this school can improve by having better teachers.(Submitted by a Student.)

6th grade is a alright no problems. 7th grade is where the students learn the arts of sticky fingers. They will take other kids valuables (especially cellphones) and yes they will become good at this (A+ for effort). The staff will accommodate the concerned parents by telling them that they will perform a full investigation........ expect ZERO results. I have 3 kids and this has happened to 2 of them (twice to 1). Please believe that my 3rd will not be attending Shadyvela!!!
