This is a beautiful school and with an outstanding community! The teachers care so deeply and the Principal is supportive, kind, smart, brave and she also cares so deeply. Its a hidden gem. My son has grown so much and Im grateful that he has a few more years! Im not ready to leave this place!! The BEST elementary school!

We have two bright boys and were slightly worried about the great school ratings before we entered the school. When our oldest was kindergarten age in 2020, just before covid hit we reached out to both Las Juntas and Morello to ask questions about the schools. Morello was curt and dismissive while Last Juntas offered to give us a tour. It turned out to be the principal (Karen Carlson at the time) who gave us the tour and answered our every question. We were so impressed.
Then Covid hit and we had zoom kindergarten - a parent's theoretical nightmare. Watching Karrie Allio teach 20 kindergarteners ON ZOOM was impressive in a whole new realm. I couldn't believe the talent, love, and skills she displayed. When a girl started crying on zoom and was at a daycare center Karrie called the center to make sure one of the staff went to help the girl and calm her down. Likewise watching the music and rec teachers keep the kids excited and engaged was a masterclass in teaching.
Since then we've only been more impressed. Almost every teacher has been at Las Juntas for years upon years- they all LOVE their jobs and care deeply for the students, and the students LOVE them. There are many ESL kids and they are loved and taken care of, there are fewer behavior problems than at the richer schools in the district, and the current principal, Pattie Crespo, is a masterclass at thoughtful engagement of parents, teachers, and students.
Despite the lower income population the parents are incredibly engaged, taking time off work to come to school plays, carnivals, and open houses. Each of our boys has been among the brightest of their classes and each boy has gotten what he needs to grow emotionally and intellectually, making great friends and learning together.
As a parent you hope to find a school where your kids are loved and cared for, where they make friends and enjoy learning. That is everything we have found at this school. We have heard many horror stories from our friends at other schools, and I can just say that if you're worried about your kids attending Las Juntas - don't be. It is truly an incredible school.

When my child went here in the 2013-19 range the school did nothing for my child. The old principal did not like my husband because of what he brought up about how sick a child should be to go home. Someone was in the office with my child who had a hurt hand and they were sent home. My kid threw up that day three times and she was not sent home! She was sat in the office for 5 minutes to "relax" then was sent back to class with a small cup of water. She stayed in school for the rest of the day and when my husband when to pick her up she once again threw up. I was not called or emailed, I wasn't even told she went down to the office. The safety of our children is hidden here. Even when it came down to injuries my child was never sent home for anything just given a bag of ice and sent back to class. My husband was never emailed about any events either so my child lost the fun she could have had if they emailed the people both marked as parents. There were even times when her friend was punched by a boy in the face and the principal didn't do anything. My child also got spat on and she was told "he didn't mean to do it" and "he just speaks like that." She was also told many times when a boy hit, yelled, or pulled her hair was because "he liked her" and "she said be nicer to him if she wants to get married one day." Kids with learning disabilities were yelled at by the teachers that were supposed to "help them".

I am a parent that has had my children in more than one Martinez Unified elementary school. This is our first year at LJ, we transeffered schools because my oldest wasn't having his needs meet at the other school. I have been so amazed at the attention to detail, and the above and beyond mesures taken by the staff, to make sure my children are as sucsessful as they can be in school and in life. The transition from one school to the other was seemless, and I am so thankful that I made the choice to find something that worked better for my kids. I can't thank the teachers, principal and aides enough for all their help!
