As a parent with three successful adult children who attended this school, as well as three children currently enrolled, I felt compelled to offer a different perspective after reading some of the recent reviews.
One thing to understand is that this is a small-town school in a small district. If you're expecting the size, resources, and programs of a large urban district like LAUSD, you may be disappointed. However, what this school may lack in size, it makes up for in community.
Because of its smaller enrollment, parents have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with teachers, staff, and other families. Throughout the years, I have found the administration and staff to be approachable, transparent, and genuinely invested in students. There are many opportunities for parent involvement, and I believe that involvement plays a significant role in a child's success.
Like schools across the country, this district faces budget challenges and teachers are being asked to do more with fewer resources. While it's easy to focus on shortcomings online, it's important to recognize the dedication of educators who continue showing up every day for our children.
No school is perfect. We have encountered issues with bullying over the years, but in my experience, concerns have been taken seriously and addressed as appropriately as possible within the legal and disciplinary limitations schools must follow. Often, the biggest challenges schools face stem from larger societal issues that cannot be solved by educators alone.
I also believe that a successful school depends on a strong partnership between families and staff. We all want additional programs such as STEAM, art clubs, and extracurricular activities, but these opportunities often require volunteers, funding, and community participation. Rather than expecting already overextended teachers to take on more responsibilities, I encourage parents to become involved and help make those programs possible.
What I appreciate most about this school is its small-town atmosphere and sense of community. It may not be the right fit for everyone, but for families who value personal connections, involvement, and a close-knit environment, it offers many strengths that larger districts simply cannot provide.

The worst towny school I’ve ever been around. We went in excited there was a school for our son nearby. Wow, just failure after failure. Staff bullying, teachers that lie straight to both parents and kids faces, seems there is total disregard of the student and parents. Total towny school only for those that grew up in this odd little town. Educationally backward, no stem programs, terrible music program. I suppose about what you could hope for being so close to Yucca Valley.

All 4 of my children attended this school. They have moved on and living great lives. 2 or the 4 went to universities. One went on to get her masters at MIT. 3 of the 4 are now entrepreneurs who own and operate their own businesses. The 4th, is the lead manager of a business he loves!

A small neighborhood school with teachers who care about the students, and quality education.

The teachers, principal and staff are definitely advocates of good character, firstly by setting a good example themselves, and secondly by expecting, recognizing and rewarding good character in the students.

I have had two children attend MVES from Kindergarten through 6th grade and must say that my experience has been great. The staff and teachers really care about their students and go the extra mile. Both of my children loved their elementary school and teachers, and built a great academic foundation at MVES.

It has been my experience, with two children attending MVES from K-6th grade, that the teachers are outstanding at MVES. They go the extra mile and really care about their students. From my experience, there is ample support and a positive learning environment provided to students by all the teachers at this school.

My son has been going to this school for 4 years now , I have nothing but great things to say . He learns so much and is doing amazing with his grades and I owe that to the teachers and there skills as well as there communication with parents . I'm so sad that we are moving away and its to far to make the drive daily to keep him there. I highly recommend this school !!!

Great school ....husband went here and its a joy to have our children also attend. We where use to large school districts from large cities. Great small town feel where teachers and staff all care about the children. Parent involvement is a must for success esp from this smaller school. Friendly staff and teachers eager to help students and parents. Can't rave enough about MVES.
