Our family loves this school. Coming from a larger community with highly rated schools, we were not expecting to be happy, but our experience has been top notch. Great teachers that have time and understanding, a great student community and a lot of opportunity for family involvement.

The principal in particular is amazing. His approach to every issue that I have been involved in has been sound. The students respect him, and he genuinely cares. Other staff at the school are also excellent, I just wanted to give Mr. Martin a shout-out.

The teachers actually know and like the kids at this school. It doesn't seem like teaching is a job to them. It seems more like a challenge and a passion.

Anyone who posts that this school is anything less than wonderful is way off the mark. We had a child go through the school and we have another there now and it has been such a great experience. The teachers are generous and engaging and actually care. The principal is respected by the staff and is always looking for ways to improve the school. I can honestly say that I don't know a parent in this town who doesn't feel the way I do and who doesn't appreciate the job these people are doing with our kids.

The school has an amazingly dedicated staff that is working hard to prepare students. There is a positive climate where kids feel a real sense of family. Technology is deeply integrated into the courses to teach students the 21st century skills they will need in the future.

Since the leaving of the past principal and the induction of the new one the school has literally slid off a cliff. The new principal is extremely unqualified and inexperienced. I wear both hats as a former staff member and parent. My child has gone from honor roll to getting F's. When I pressed the school for a syllabus and proof how the lessons are connected to the California Content Standards my child and I received nothing but retaliation. My child was treated like the problem. What blew my mind was that I never received the syllabus or proof that what was being taught is connected to the standards. They made my child's life so miserable that he forced into home-school by the administration. The staff behaves and dresses unprofessionally. Staff has been to wear shorts and Birkenstocks showing off their unkempt toenails. It is time for these warm bodies taking up space collecting paychecks step down and allow some new talent to emerge. I am hopeful that court case will be upheld and tenure is done away with. Only after this can we clean house and again be a great school. They way the school is run is shameful; it is a complete 180 from the year before.

This school is horrible. I'm sad to say I was alumni here. Every time I was bullied and beat up I told a teacher or the principals as I thought I was supposed to I was called a lier and turned away. Even my mother saw me once get beat up and took me to see the principal and he called her a lier to her face.

When you (Great Schools) computed the ratings and rankings for subgroups for the year 2010 - 2011, it appears that you gave subgroups that are numerically insignificant an "NA" in some rankings , but a "0" points for that same subgroup in the calculation of a different category ranking. NA stands for "not appllcable" and does not mean the same as Zero. One such subgroup where you applied 0 growth points - when it was actually 72 growth points! - was for Student with Disabilities (if you subtract the previous year's score from 2010-2011 you will find a 72 point gain). Looking further, one can see that specific subgroup showed the most improvement of any subgroup for 2010 - 2011, so it should not be "0" points as reported. Just because a group is numerically insignificant in one case does not mean you get to apply "0" point gain in growth categories. It is misleading to the public. This subgroup made excellent growth in 2010 - 2011 school year. The school overall is doing extremely well.

The administration and teachers at Santa Lucia Middle School are amazing. The new administration in the last two years has made terrific program changes which my children are benefitting from. The Principal has an open door policy for students and parents alike. The teachers show care and concern for their students from both academic and "regular life" perspectives. The Power School program really gives parents and teachers the opportunity to communicate well. The campus provides as much as a family-like feel as you'll find for a middle school.
