My child attended middle school at ATLAS and it was such a wonderful, welcoming experience. The students at this campus are well-supported, and this includes those with learning differences. The community is tight-knit and looks out for one another. This is a TK-8 campus and I believe this type of setting encourages the older kids to be the best version of themselves as they want to set a good example for the "littles" (the younger students.) I found it easy to communicate with teachers when i needed to, and I never felt like I was in the dark. If I could go back in time, I would've started my child here at the beginning of elementary school. ATLAS provided the students with that feeling of "home"---safe, cared for, encouraged. My child thrived here. I know my child will carry the memories of glow dances, aloha Fridays, ninja warrior races, water play day, countless dining with the stars events, Skating Plus fundraisers, family picnics, cheering our athletes on, and the friendships formed on the playground with him on his next adventure---high school. Excellent school, would absolutely recommend.

Nope nope and nope. Kids with any special needs or ADHD pretty much get shunned at this school and treated like they are just a bad seed. I felt like he was pushed away by not only the kids but by the staff also. He was sent home with papers for me to sign nearly every day suspended etc constantly at 8 years old. Just tell me you dont like my son. No one understands him here so were moving on...never again

The Principal is amazing. She is a leader of leaders on campus. The Principal was a part of a team that brought in the Steven Covey "Leader in Me" program. She communicates regularly with parents via text message communication for last minute important updates (rainy weather or schedule changes), on School Facebook page to announce current events, and also through her Principal blog with take-home information for parents. It is a very well rounded approach. She is happy to talk with parents if there ever is a concern and attends all Restaurant Nights to see students once a month at dinner.

There are opportunities for support in a wide variety of areas- students who are struggling and need additional help have access to help with teachers, paraeducations, and small group support.

The Leader in Me program has a "Buddy" system embedded in the program. In Kindergarten, our son got an amazing 3rd grade Big Buddy. They connect each week at the "Lead Time" meetings. He will have this same Buddy all the way from Kinder - 2nd grade. Then, in 3rd grade our son will become the Big Buddy. I love the consistency and their time together, they've already become good friends. It is nice to see he has a friend in an older grade that he knows and feels connected to. This is very unique from other school "buddy" programs.

Our son is in Kinder. The grade level works as a team- there is consistency across all 3 classrooms. We get a weekly packet with all information on Thursdays, and it is due back the next week on Wednesday. It is helpful for busy families to have time to complete all assignments.

The teachers work well within each grade level. They have weekly team meetings on Wednesday to discuss curriculum and classes. I feel like they make concerted efforts to make sure students are given the exact instruction they need, especially in UA (Universal Access) time for Language Arts. Students also have lessons with other grade level teachers for other topics such as art and science. This gives a very balanced approach to instruction. The kids love it!

The Leader in Me has changed the dynamic of the school- students are given leadership opportunities starting in Kindergarten. They learn communication and speaking skills.

Amazing. I can't imagine my son in another school. There is a balanced mix of students from different areas in Ventura since this is a Magnet school. He loves his teacher, he loves coming to school. I see great things for him ahead thanks to ATLAS.

They have opportunities starting in kindergarten for students to take on special leadership roles. Their students greaters are great. Their Jr. lighthouse team is great for getting students ready for middle school leadership opportunities.

They seem to have a great team with the principal, teachers, and other staff members working to meet the needs of all students. They have taken on a lot of "extras" to become a leadership school and everyone seems eager to be a part of it.

Lots of supports on campus to meet the needs of every student. The teachers spend a lot of time planning using data. I've seen my kids benefit from their very frequent grade level meetings as their intervention groups are very purposeful and fluid groupings depending on needs.
Posted: December 12, 2018
They talk with students about the difference between bullying and bothering. Their leadership "7 Habits" have provided my kids with the language and options to problem solve when issues arise with peers.
Posted: December 12, 2018
The teachers make real connections with the students. They put in a lot of extra time and energy to provide great learning opportunities. They really seem to care!

9. Very pleased with ATLAS! Have loved it for my two current students and can't wait until my youngest will become an ATLAS star! The staff is incredibly dedicated to the wellbeing of the students and I've seen my kids blossom there.

Teachers give homework that is a continuation of learning from the classroom. It allows me as a parent to really see how my child is doing and help practice at home.

With a child in first grade, we are 2 for 2 with excellent teachers who are caring, motivating, effective and set high expectations of their students. This creates a positive environment that challenges the kids to work at their fullest potential.

The Leader In Me program at ATLAS is amazing. I can't wait to see what these kids grow up to accomplish.
Posted: January 23, 2018
I agree with another reviewer that more could be done by admin staff to create a greater sense of connection with parents to get them more involved. PTA really takes charge and makes things happen, but a lot of the work falls upon a handful of involved parents.

Our student is expected to read nightly and choose from an engaging optional homework me yet that can involve the whole family. Not just "busy work".

Our family feels a part of the ATLAS family. We are happy to have ATLAS as our home school and feel that our community is fortunate to have ATLAS available to attend as a school of choice. The technology and especially the leadership aspect of the curriculum is fantastic. The staff is caring and the teachers are excellent.

As a parent I appreciate that the teachers give homework that focuses on what they are covering in class.

We love the staff and teachers at the school. This is a school where I feel like we have a close relationship with all employees. The PTA is wonderful and offers great programs for the kids. I wish there was more parent involvement. I think the technology and leadership program that is offered is amazing. I love that the kids have access to iPads, computers/laptops, etc. I appreciate that they are learning coding and have other great technology advantages. The leadership programs teaches the students to be amazing leaders. They learn about the 7 habits and learn to implement them into everyday life.

Leader in Me program is great and we have been impressed by how much our child has learned.
Posted: January 20, 2018
Principal is not effective at engaging the parents and fostering diverse parent leadership community. Parent involvement is disappointing and IÂ’m not seeing the principal work on this area. As an involved parent, I donÂ’t feel the principal has ever made an effort to connect with me - doesnÂ’t even say hi when she walks past us.

Teachers are compassionate and flexible to accommodate the students and their needs.

We have had excellent experiences with teachers here. Love the Leader in Me program.
Posted: January 20, 2018
Homework is kept to a minimum focusing on reading and a bit of math. No busy work.

It has been a mixed bag. We love the teachers and admin staff, but feel disappointed in the leadership.

Our family has had four generations of students who have attended ATLAS/Saticoy. ATLAS is by far the best improvement to the school! Incredible leadership that is constantly seeking ways to better our students learning and leadership abilities.

ATLAS is an amazing school! My daughter has flourished here! ALL the teachers and staff care about the students as if they were their own! I love the leadership aspect! The students are learning so many valuable life lessons! And Mrs. Duston, the principal is phenomenal!

We just started our second year at ATLAS and we love it! Let's put it this way; we moved last April and our new boundary school was Citrus Glen (also a highly rated school). During the summer my daughter begged to stay at ATLAS to begin 1st grade there. We were able to transfer to remain there, and my daughter's kinder teacher from last year was able to make sure her little brother started this year in her classroom! Mrs. Wipf is an oustanding teacher, and we love 1st grade's Mrs. Smith. The school has many fundraisers, events and the curriculum is outstanding. My children are constantly bringing up something new they learned each week. Historically it's been a good school but declined over the years. However, they did a complete overhaul a few years ago; new principal, and ATLAS is now one of Ventura's 6 magnet schools. They run on the philosophy of "The 7 Habits" (of highly effective people) a book series that is great! The leadership and technology aspects are fantastic, but it's also about helping these kids become good future citizens.

Saticoy Elementary School has been always loved by the community. Dedicated teachers, involved parents, cooperative staff, and a very active PTA are some of the few to mention. The young, energetic Principal who is a technology pro, knows how to make things work and attain the resources for the kids. With the new name change of the school, ATLAS Elementary (Academy of Technology and Leadership at Saticoy), the school focuses on technology and emphasizing the leadership skills in the students. After school programs, programs for GATE kids, spirit week and other PTA driven program are keeping the kids driven and parents involved. I am so proud to be a part of ATLAS/ or a more familiar Saticoy Elementary School. Both of my kids are having such a good learning experience and I am happy to see them grow as better individuals in a very safe, academic environment where 'Great Happens' almost every day!

My child transferred here from Mound and we have been very happy and satisfied with the personal connection between them and their teachers, with the amount of activities for parents to get involved with at the school after school hours, and the use of technology. My child loves it and I am so glad we made the choice to come here!

I love Saticoy school. I don't know why it is rated so low, this is NOT the case. My child had a great experience in Kindergarten and we absolutly love her first grade teacher Mr. Palkie. They really take an interest in the students and I love the access to iPads, nooks and technology in the classroom. A+

Saticoy has been a blessing. Last year my daughter whined every morning that she had to go to school. I moved her to Saticoy and she jumps out of bed every morning. She adores her teacher, loves the learning environment and is being taught more than just academics. The principal is young, energetic and enthusiastic. She is starting great new programmes for the kids and is moving with the times. The staff is receptive, involved and willing to do anything for the kids.
