Frankly, I think that primary character development is born at home and in early life (prior to kindergarten), but I have been very pleased with the support we've had in this department by school. There is definitely a critical role that school environment plays in setting the tone of, "normal," and I think City Christian has done a better job at supporting positive character development and the underlying values that inform it than any other educational institution I've experienced.

In our experience, there has been a very unified front by the teachers and administration, and they have been working together to constantly improve the school. I realize there was a change in leadership at this school (was it ballpark 6 years ago, before we came?), and I understand this brings necessary transition with it, but I am pleased with constant striving towards improvement and excellence. Both the current principal and past principals have been a pleasure to work with, very responsive, engaging, and truly caring for the students and parents.

I haven't had much experience in this department, however, I appreciated watching the third grade teacher incorporate innovative teaching methods in her daily classroom (eg spelling done occasionally with a running relay game to engage kinesthetic learners).

My children were not bothered by bullying while here, but from what I've seen there is excellent groundwork in place for addressing issues underlying bullying. I was also pleased by the addition of a part time school counselor a couple of years ago, who was passionate about addressing heart issues of the children and how to teach them effective skills for navigating emotions and interpersonal difficulties in a positive way.

Overall, we have had an excellent experience at this school and I would definitely recommend it. No school is going to be perfect, or a perfect fit for everyone, but I would wholeheartedly recommend City Christian to anyone I know. Across the board, everyone there seems to really care for the students and is effectively striving for improving excellence, both academically and wholistically.

Homework ensured students finished and grasped essential classwork but was not the excessive busywork we experienced elsewhere (compared to two other private schools).

Our two daughters loved their teachers, who both welcomed and engaged them. I was suprised by the support in place for new teachers (we experienced two in the course of our time here so far during second and third grades), which I felt really helped them hit the ground running as teachers in a new environment (I have friends who are teachers and I am familiar with the demands of your first year teaching a new grade in a new school). The third grade teacher, while just out of school (and I believe credentialed as a CA teacher), was absolutely amazing at bringing creativity and awareness of different learning styles to the table effectively. Her enthusiasm was contagious and effective. Our experience with the more seasoned junior kindergarten and kindergarten teachers was likewise favorable. They brought so much to the table education wise, and it was evident that they deeply cared for the students.

I have two children that attend City Christian and I am very pleased that they do. Both of my children have greatly benefitted from the school. As a parent it is important for me to put my children in an environment that is safe, helps their spiritual formation while maintaining high academic standards. I would recommend this school to likeminded parents. In addition, I feel that the school does a great job helping kids navigate the social challenges of growing up.

The teachers are highly invested. They pray over the students and give them the tools they need to be independent learners & confident students.

City Christian school is an incredible school. The atmosphere is charged with faith, the teachers are joyful and loving. My child has grown so much!

Its so small that students cant get away with much.

My children were taught to be self motivated to do their homework. The teachers are great at creating incentives and it never felt like too much.

If youre looking to develop a strong sense of faith and character in your child, Ive never seen anything better. The teachers and administration seem genuinely interested in this.

The school has made dramatic improvements in the past seven years. It was struggling and Ive seen great steps towards more professionalism and new teacher requirements to prepare for the future. There have been many changes but the commitment of the leadership to see the students succeed is felt.

Im not sure. The staff is small and I dont think they are big enough to include this as an emphasis yet. Though the kindergarten teacher did a great job with the kids who struggled in my daughters class.

I was so impressed with how well our daughter's teacher cared about her learning experience. She set up times every week where the children could stay in her class after hours to receive help on their homework or anything the didn't understand!

These teachers truly care about these kids and how well they are learning. They go above and beyond to make sure everyone is excelling!

We moved here from Florida and a school we truly loved. We were beyond surprised when we found ourselves loving this one even more. This school, these teachers truly helped our daughters very difficult transition become one that she will cherish for the rest of her life. I could NOT be more thankful for City Christian School!

My son has attended City Christian for 2 years and since he started, the school has made so many administrative changes it's hard to keep track of who everyone is. None of the teachers are credentialed, which I know isn't a requirement, but it seems you can be just about anyone and get a teaching job at this school. The only thing all of the teachers have in common are their beliefs and it seems almost all of them have some kind of Theology background. While that's good for a Christian school, I'm sending my children to private schools for a better education, which I don't think City Christian provides, especially when comparing it to other private schools in the area. The school staff also has a way of not making you feel welcome if you don't attend the City Church. For these reasons, my son will no longer be attending this school.

I rate college heights high in learning. My 5 year old has learned so much in a little time. He started late in the year 2011. The pre-k teacher is really serious about teaching. Emotionally he struggled. He had a anger control issues. His teacher was patient and worked with me as much as she could without distracting her from other kids that were more behaved. We stayed a team (parent/teacher/student) worked hard and he matured ahead and started doing better. It was a good experience for the both of us. Schools cant do it without the parents. I wish they had a child license social workerd/counslers educated in early childhood development/cultural sensitivity classes. All children are not equal and deserve top knotch education. If your child has a problem at this school their are no resources for student/parent. If I had one wish for this school....HIre staff to help all children/parent adjust to the christian evironment. (Transition Team) Alot of fun raisers so be prepared to help out financially/donate your time. You feel bad if you cant as a parent. My son Knows and Loves the Lord because of this school. Jesus is truly first here! ("Love that") No price on Jesus. Thanks CHCS.

Yes the school is good with academics I am a freshman in high school and have good grades because a lot of the things I have learned I learned from the teachers there. But with me I had a few problems with my peers. Not getting into that. Over all the school is good but you parents should ask your children about the students there and make sure everything is going alright.

As a teacher at a different private school in the area, I must say that I feel my daughter's education at College Heights is far superior! I love this school! My daughter has a wonderful teacher who is always happy to talk about any concerns. When my daughter's class became too large, they split the class, giving students more individual attention. The before-care and after-care programs are wonderful, with loving and caring teachers in both. My daughter has grown so much this year spiritually. I have really been quite impressed. I would very much encourage anyone looking for a Christian school, or any type of private school, to seriously look at College Heights Christian for your child!

College Heights has been a blessing to our family. As a teacher I am AMAZED at what my 4 year old has accomplished this year in their Jr. K-4 Kindergarten program. WOW! She is reading, writing and doing math well beyond what a public school kindergarten K-5 student is doing. Thank You College Heights! We look forward to 9 more wonderful years.

Would have loved to find our experience with College Heights the same as other parent reviews, but found quite the opposite. The teacher showed no love of the Lord or evidence of being Christian. Administration was weak and not Bible based. My child was set out and treated badly by the teacher. Notified administration and even after meetings with teacher and administration nothing changed. I would encourage any parent looking to place their child in a Christian school to stay as far away from this school as possible.
