I was sent to this facility from December 2021 to March 2022 and had an awful experience. The staff were unprofessional and one staff even made a gesture of putting a gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger with his hand. Often times instead of doing actual therapy we would be asked an icebreaker and then be sent to the gym to play basketball because that’s what the staff wanted. It is important to note that this was in the male dorm so it could be different in the female dorm but I highly doubt that. The policy handbook was outdated and I was actually told that “It’s a lot of effort to update our handbook.” The Drug and Alcohol position was not filled so I didn’t receive the help I needed in that area, even though I was told I would. You are treated differently based on your funding. For instance I was not able to participate in the horse therapy because my funding was insurance and usually insurance residents don’t stay long. When I voiced my complaints about the outdated handbook, lack of Drug and Alcohol counselor, unprofessionalness from the staff, and a general feeling of just “winging it” I was told “well this isn’t a summer camp you aren’t supposed to enjoy it.” I cannot recommend you to stay away from this place enough. There are so much better facilities that will help you.

This school is the worst school to ever put your child in . The staff there target the children, and cause problems with your child. I sent my kid here 1 year ago and she came home crying and her mental health got worse by the environment of this so called school. My child was bullied there not only by her piers , but she was also bullied by the staff. Oak grove has secrets they don’t tell you like how they won’t tell you right away your child got in a fight and they will make your child seem like the problem. My biggest regret was sending my child to this school her mental health is so much worse because of this school. The staff do nothing to help you at all if your child is going through something and the therapists there do not help the kids , trust me I know I sent my child here but the point is they yell at your kid if they go through anything and they try to keep your kid at this school instead of helping them get out. My daughter had an incident with a staff there where the staff said “ come on you wanna fight let’s take it outside.” Staff should never try to fight a child no matter what. This caused my daughter anxiety to ever step foot in that school and when she did they targeted her and made her seem as if she was the problem. If you want your children to be safe and you want them to get better, do not ever send your children to this school because you will have to live with the guilt and regret of what your child goes through at Oak Grove Center. My child has been taken out of this school by me and placed in a school where they treat her right and help her with her education and mental health. Everyday she comes home from her new school with a smile telling me no staff targeted her or put her down because of her problems at this new school. So please if you want your child to be safe and happy do not send your children to Oak Grove Center.

Elsinore High School almost destroyed my "differently abled," shy, quiet, bashful child, but THANK YOU GOD for leading us to Oak Grove and just minutes from home. He was diagnosed as having Severe Anxiety Disorder almost as soon as school began at Elsinore High.
