My son went to this school in 2024 he had a great 2nd grade teacher who ended up retiring after that year ended, 2025 came he's now in 3rd grade his teacher speculated, a lot that was going on as far as his learning he had an IEP which he knew, Other parents disliked this teacher and I made him aware of that and I said I would give him the benefit of the doubt (this was verbally) my son told me that he would say slick things to him while not in my presence when I asked him was this said, he told me he did not speak to my child that way I know my son would not lie to me this teacher began to be very disrespectful to me I held my ground
like a lady my child then dealt with another individual in the classroom this teacher during conferences exposed some information about another child to me and then became
argumentative long story short, I had to call the Super Intendant about the matter because no one took accountability for what happened I expect my child to be in a safe environment when he is at school and if there are any issues that involve my child I would like to know but that was not the case I was disappointed with the situation involving my son if you plan to have your child go to this school and you are a person of color as well as your child I would not recommend putting my child in this school until they get rid of the principle and the dean they both seem to have an issue with people of color and this is not a school I want to have my child at 2026 horrible, after the New Year Jan 2026 I moved my son to another school and he could not be a happier 3rd grader now going to 4th again I would not recommend this school while the principal and the dean are there horrible communication.

My first grader has an IEP witch they did not follow the IEP, we had so many talks with them about it and they just brush it off, my son has autism and elopes so we had told them time and time again that he need close supervision in just 2 years he has made it out side the school grounds 5 times and they brush it off like it is nothing so who knows how many kids have eloped and they did not mention it to the parents
Also my kindergartener eloped during recess and made it all the way home about 5 blocks from the school, he was gone for about 20 mins before they realized he was gone they do not keep track of the students at all

One thing about Vassar Elementary that I like is that during lunch if pizza is what they eat, the people that are allergic or can't eat pork can go to the front of the line so they can have the cheese pizza before anyone else can. Another thing is that the teachers care for the child's life in and outside of school. They make sure they understand the teaching and will help the student if they need it. The teachers also talk to the students nicely and make jokes every now and then. The teaching is also good! Overall, great school! (FYI, I have two kids going there, one in 5th and one in 3rd. They also say that, they love the school).

My teacher would call me a whiny brat when I wasn't at school and said I brought drama to the school and that it was my fault I was being bullied

I really did not like this school. I only had 3 friends and my teacher was just awful to me

My son has excelled since attending here. I know for certain the staff giving him that extra bit of attention he needs, instead of shoving him to the side like his pre school did, has enhanced his learning ability

Although the homework they provide is challenging for the grade level I strongly disagree with the Common Core style of learning, that crap is stupid. Not the schools fault, however the not grading it is their fault and I do not agree with that. Just because the kids wrote words on a paper doesn't mean they know what's going on. They need to be told right from wrong no matter the circumstances.

This school is absolutely amazing. I currently have 3 of 5 children attending and I couldn't be happier. We thought about moving and this school kept us right where we were. My son needs a little extra attention and the staff here goes above and beyond my expectations to provide for everyone, not just my son, but his friends, classmates, and even family that doesn't even go to the school. They work hard with the students and provide extra support whenever needed. You can definitely depend on Vassar to take care of your children, both physically and mentally. The challenges they provide for my children are nothing short of what I could ask of them to do. The staff knows all 5 of my children and my children know the staff. They are excited about going to school and they don't like missing out. That is tough to find in a school.

I transferred my son to Vassar through open enrollment almost a year ago. The teachers and support staff are amazing. I get frequent updates from his class teacher so that I am kept in the loop as to how he is doing at school. He enjoys his classes and attending school there. I am quite pleased with Vassar!

My children went to Vassar a couple years ago. I put them in a charter school because Vassar just wans't giving them the education they needed. Come to find out both my kids were about 2 grade levels behind. I'm a very active parent in the scools and I would constantly ask how my kids were doing, the response was fine. I feel like the teachers were only there because they had a job not to teach my kids what they needed to learn to be successfull. I suggest that if you have a choice of schools this is not a very good one. I Love the charter school that my kids are in and I'm glad I made the move. The teachers and principal were very negative and put down my kids (come to find out later). I wanted my kids to be successful in both school and in life so I feel like getting them out of Vassar was the best thing for them.
