As a alum from graland I cannot express how much better it wouldve been for me if I had never gone here. The lower school years were the best, however bullying was rampant and oftentimes PHYSICALLY violent in both lower and middle school. In the first grade, I was knocked unconscious by a boy who punched me in the face, and he faced no consequences despite this being his 100th warning and his parents well aware of his bullying towards me. He bullied me all 8 years I went here, as I left after 7th grade due to how horrible the environment was. Despite this boy never getting any consequences for his actions (and the punch was not the only physical bullying), I was given harsh consequences for a small thing and for something I was framed for and had proof I did not do. In 7th grade, I expressed my displeasure with how another girl was treating me towards her respectfully, and she cussed me out and reported me for bullying, leaving me and my friend who also expressed his feelings suspended. I think this was due in part to the fact that her family was very rich and therefore had more influence over the school, as the rich and white families at this school were put on the highest pedestal and all friends in a sort of clique, while my friend and I are both of mixed races and not seen as rich enough for the others. There are also countless other problems within this school that cannot be fit onto here, but the overall issue is bullying that is ignored and in a way rewarded towards those with influence due to being rich. Homework also becomes very heavy in middle school and the middle school counselors were rude, unhelpful, and simply reported children to their parents if they came to them seeking help. Even among the kids who were apart of the rich influential families, everybody in my grade wanted out from graland. My 6th and 7th grade year countless students attempted to apply to other private schools, and a few got in, but many including myself did not and had to remain at graland, due to the fact that students here are raised in such a bubble that we all (including me) viewed public school as a horrible school to go to, which is why we simply stayed. Eventually at the end of my 7th grade year when I stopped standing up for myself, I was suspended once again as I was framed, and despite having proof I did not do anything and now knowing who did frame me, I was still suspended the last week of school for 3 days. In summary, dont send your kids here!!

We have three kids at Graland and could not be happier. What sets this school apart is how genuinely the teachers know each child not just their academics, but their personalities, their quirks, and what lights them up. The individualized attention here is real, not just a talking point.
Graland understands that raising a great kid means so much more than reading and math. Yes, the academics are strong but the school invests equally in the whole child. Social-emotional learning is woven into daily life, and our kids have grown in empathy, resilience, and self-confidence in ways that no test score could capture.
Graland manages to feel like a close-knit community even as it delivers a genuinely rigorous education. The teachers are the heart of it all passionate, invested, and remarkable. We feel lucky every day.

After four years at Graland Country Day School, with a child in 3rd grade and another in Pre-k, we can say without hesitation that it has been one of the best decisions we've made for our family.

Graland has created something truly special - an environment where warmth, love, and intellectual growth coexist seamlessly. The teachers, staff, and administrators consistently demonstrate a level of thoughtfulness and intentionality that sets this school apart. Every interaction reflects a deep commitment to the whole child, and we have been consistently impressed by the care and excellence each educator brings to the classroom.

The community itself is equally remarkable. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine kindness and inclusivity. Four years in, that sense of belonging has only deepened. We have a 6 y.o. and 3 y.o. at Graland, and could not be happier. There is tremendous alignment across the families, teachers, and administrators that make up the community, and the operations are run efficiently and professionally. We highly value how the curriculum combines traditional academic standards and socio-behavioral skills. We think it is incredibly important for our kids to not just be smart, but also understand the process behind personal improvement and understand what it takes to apply their academic abilities towards solving practical problems while working with others. In our experience Graland's approach has been exceptional at delivering on that objective. We feel very fortunate to be part of the Graland community!

One of the most important measures for choosing a school was whether our child would look forward to going every day. At Graland, the answer has been a resounding yes, and that joy has become the foundation for his growth. My children were previously attending their boundary DPS elementary school. As minority students, there were issues of racism and classroom behavioral challenges. Meetings with the principal to discuss the trauma my child was experiencing, by watching behavioral outbreaks occur, was met without change. Coming from the largest school district in CO, we experienced situations that needed immediate attention but were delayed due to district protocol and not having the ability to act independently. When we toured Graland, we fell in love. The tuition was prohibitive for us, but we were able to receive financial aid.

Our experiences changed immediately upon transferring to Graland. There is close monitoring of behavior and as a result, academics can really flourish. Teachers enjoy what they teach and present very engaging lessons, field trips, and activities. Once we were a part of the Graland community, we were welcomed by many warm and caring families. Teachers engaged with us frequently about our students and were quick to reach out with any academic or emotional concerns.

Previously, our kids were in a bit of a holding pattern when it came to reaching their potential and feeling challenged with curriculum. At Graland, there are many diagnostics to monitor academic levels and supports needed. I was really impressed to learn that Graland frequently audits their curriculum and homework. The teachers actually conducted studies to see how long it took their students to complete homework IN the classroom. They carefully considered every handout and project to determine if it was impactful to the learning and necessary. I appreciate how the middle school teachers (math, english, science, and history) partner together so that key topics synergize with each other and build upon each other. There is also a class period of academic coaching (AC) where students can go to the teacher that they are struggling with any assignments. We also found many teachers arrived early and were available to meet before school.

As the lunch maker of my family, I really appreciate that the tuition includes lunch and all snacks. Additionally, all field trips are included in the tuition. The field trips are so amazing, I wish I could go on them. Initially, I was worried about my kiddos and if the overnight trips would go well. I soon learned that Graland carefully considers every possible need and prepares thoroughly. The LIVE THE LEARNING approach makes a significant impact.

My student started at Graland in Kindergarten and is now in First Grade. We were new to Graland and All Day Kindergarten (our student went to a part time preschool before starting), and his teachers were amazing, warm, welcoming, engaging, and made us all feel more confident about our choice to attend Graland. I frequently ask my son how he feels about school, if he feels like he belongs there, if he feels happy when he's at school, and he always says he loves Graland and feels welcome and happy there. I feel that Graland strives to be an Inclusive Community, and I say strives because that is what it takes. You have to continue to do the work with all members of the community to create an inclusive culture, and from my perspective Graland seems committed to that work.

My wife and I are both Denver natives and proud products of the Denver Public School system. When we began our school search more than two years ago, we cast a wide net considering public, Catholic, and private schools. Any parent who has gone through this process knows how overwhelming and time-consuming it can be.

From the start, we were clear about our priorities: a strong academic culture where learning is central, exceptional teachers, small class sizes, meaningful diversity, a safe and secure environment, and ample resources to support student growth. After extensive research and school visits, we narrowed our decision to three outstanding options: The Challenge School, Good Shepherd Catholic School, and Graland Country Day School.

Once we received our admission offer from Graland, the choice became clear. Graland stood out as the school that best aligned with every one of our priorities. Learning is unmistakably the heartbeat of the school something you feel immediately upon walking through the doors. Graland has mastered traditional academics, particularly in math, science, and reading, while also offering an exceptionally rich and well-developed arts program that allows students to explore creativity alongside rigor.

The faculty are highly qualified, with most teachers holding advanced degrees, and class sizes are intentionally small, allowing for meaningful individualized attention. Gralands student body reflects a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. The school values diversity in an authentic way not only racially, but economically as well. When thinking about diversity, its important to consider context: Denver itself is not an extremely diverse city, and Gralands demographics are very representative of the broader community. Additionally, the school provides affinity groups that create space for reflection, dialogue, and belonging particularly for students of color.

Equally impressive is the level of parental and community involvement. On any given day, youll find parents and community members actively engaged on campus. While Graland is certainly a school, it functions more like a community and that sense of shared ownership and partnership is where education truly thrives.

This is our sons second year at the school and we couldnt be happier with our experience--currently in Pre-K. The small class sizes allow his teachers to truly get to know him, and the communication we receive is consistent, thoughtful, and incredibly helpful. We always feel in the loop about what hes learning and how hes growing.

What we appreciate most is the whole-student approach. The school genuinely values every aspect of a childs development: academics, the arts, physical education, and social-emotional learning. Our son is not only learning his letters and numbershes learning how to be a good friend, a responsible classmate, and a curious learner.

We have seen so much growth and confidence in him over these two years. We are grateful for the caring teachers and supportive community, and we highly recommend this school to any family looking for a nurturing, well-rounded learning environment.

The interdisciplinary curriculum is thoughtfully constructed so that all the classes compliment one another. As parents of a 3rd and 1st grader, who started in Kinder and pre-k respectively, Graland delivers intellectual excellence while nurturing the whole child and we couldn't be happier about being part of this community.

I have a child in middle school and a child in lower school and I can honestly say that Graland has been an incredible experience for our family. The teachers truly know and care about my children and encourage them to to grow both academically and personally. Each kid has a different personality, and they are thriving in an environment that balances strong academics with creativity, character development and a wide range of opportunities in arts, athletics and leadership.

What stands out the most is the supportive community and the values Graland instills - kindness, respect and empathy. I've seen my children become more confident, curious and well-rounded thanks to the guidance and care of this amazing school.

I would love to write a better review, as there are good things about Graland, but there are a lot of negatives and I feel its important to share those.

We didnt feel we got our moneys worth at all, especially when we found that kids in a few solid DPS middle schools were way ahead in math and comparable with Graland in every other subject. The academic and social pressure at Graland is intense. By 5th grade, plan for 2-3 hours of homework and some on weekends. Our kid was bullied often (not physically) and, in general, the kids can be so mean to each other. In middle school, the kids start to all share grades and mock those who dont get an A. Why did you only get an A-? Whats wrong with you?. And yet many kids have tutors on the side that their parents pay for, which we always thought that was pretty incredible. Imagine paying a ton of money for private school and then also paying for year round tutoring?

The community is full of very entitled people and if you dont have a second home in Vail or dont vacation to Hawaii or Europe every winter/spring break, be prepared to be an outsider and barely exist in the eyes of the collective. That might be great for your family, but just be prepared. Every drop off/pick up line is full of $100k vehicles. And theres really no diversity among the student and family population.

Because of the intense pressure, there were a lot of classmates that developed anxiety issues; so many that the school had to schedule a number of sessions for parents throughout the year on how to deal with them. They also had to schedule a number of parent sessions to discuss how mean many of the kids were being to one another.

A Truly Inclusive, Supportive, and Enriching School Community

What first drew me to Graland Country Day School was consistently meeting Graland students over the yearseach one impressively well-rounded, confident, kind, and curious. It became clear to me that something special was happening at this school, and I wanted that kind of environment for my son.

He has now attended Graland for the past three years, starting in Kindergarten, and it has exceeded every expectation I had for a private school experience. As a single parent who might now fall into the highest income bracket with two-income household represented at the school, I initially wondered if wed truly feel at home. Those concerns were quickly put to rest.

From day one, the faculty and staff have made me feel seen, supported, and genuinely welcomed. Graland fosters a deeply inclusive environmentnot just for students, but for parents as well. Ive always felt like an equal part of the community, and thats a rare and beautiful thing.

One of the greatest surprises has been how much Ive grown to love the other families and children in my sons class. Even though we live about 30 minutes from campus and werent part of the surrounding neighborhood before enrolling, weve developed lasting friendships and a strong sense of belonging. The community is warm, down-to-earth, and incredibly supportivetruly a hidden gem.

Graland also goes above and beyond in offering resources to support parentsfrom nationally recognized guest speakers and parent education events to hands-on guidance that makes the entire school experience richer and more connected. Events like the Graland Gallop and family-friendly golf tournaments create moments of joy and celebration that bring the entire community together.

Most importantly, my son is thrivingsocially, emotionally, and academically. The friendships hes formed and the joy he brings home every day are proof that we made the right choice.

Graland isnt just a school. Its a community. Its a second home. And I can attest, its a place where every childand every familyhas the opportunity to flourish.

I have two kids at Graland and the support they offer to both of my kids, who learn in unique ways, has been incredible. Where my son may need more challenges but help with the emotional/social, the teachers are on top of it. And for my daughter who needed more OT and reading help, the specialists were able to identify early and start intervention to give her a love for learning before she became overly frustrated. The families are included in so many ways, so I feel known at the school and by the faculty. A special community.

As the father of a third grade boy, I can confidently say that Graland Country Day School has exceeded every expectation we had when choosing an elementary school. From the very first day, the warmth, professionalism, and intentionality of the Graland community stood out. It is a place where students are truly seen, nurtured, and inspired. Their mission of courses focuses on academics, but also social/emotional factors.

Our son has absolutely thrived here. The faculty are extraordinarynot only deeply knowledgeable and skilled at teaching, but also genuinely invested in each childs growth, both academically and personally. His third grade teachers are particularly amazing and have struck a perfect balance of challenge and support, and they make learning incredibly engaging. Learning programs are often tailored to meet individual student needs, as has been the case with my son.

The campus itself is beautiful and well-maintained, with top-notch facilities that support a wide range of learning experiencesfrom hands-on science labs to art studios to athletic fields. Theres a strong emphasis on community and collaboration, and weve felt incredibly welcomed and included as a family.

The location is fantastic, many of my son's friends live in close proximity to him and the school (many bike to school), though there are many that travel from a bit further to get there as well. It seems like the perfect balance.

I notice lots of discussion in these reviews about the faculty/staff of a school. Less discussed are the kids themselves. I have found the student body at Graland to be full of amazing, focused, kind, smart, and fun children. This is a testament not only to the kids helping each other out, but to the amount of care that is put into the admissions process to ensure that those attending are a good match for the community.

My student came in 6th grade and was at Graland for 3 years. Over these years, Graland has been said to be inclusive and care about student mental health. However, my child came to the teacher multiple times asking for help, but was ignored. Graland has a very close mindset set, and so do the student who have been at Graland their whole life. Students often bully others for small things, as appearance and clothing. Lots of kids at this school have not had experience with real life because of a bubble, and are put into it. Leading to lots of students making racist jokes that would not pass at a bigger school.

Bullying is massive and there is 0 diversity. If your child is not white and rich you will NOT fit in and you will not be happy. The school will target your child and make them out to be a bad guy over small things or things that are NOT their fault. Have improved support for kids with special needs, but used to be terrible. Don't send your kid here unless you want them to not want to ever go to school or talk to people again.

I am a current student at Graland Country Day School. In my opinion, its a great school but can be better in a couple of things. First off, we have wellness every rotating schedule for me this year. It has been skipped over 3-4 times from either field trips or just some special schedule. My favorite part of Grandland is definitely the community. Everyone is very welcoming and nice no matter your race, height, weight, or socioeconomic status. Starting in 5th, we have advisory every morning, which is a really good time to bond with friends and teachers. I have made some of my favorite memories at Graland during advisory. I was diagnosed with ADHD in the middle of 6th grade. After my diagnosis, within a week I was given a support plan which helped me excel with my learning. The student support teachers are very kind and helpful with reminding you about upcoming tests or projects and they help you understand what were learning better.

We have been at Graland for 6 years now and couldn't be happier. Our children have grown and thrived so much that it is hard to capture in words. They have gained confidence, good friends, public speaking skills, curiosity and a general love of learning. The teachers are top notch and entire staff treat our children like family. The Graland community at large has also been so welcoming, and as a family that moved from out of town, it has been a wonderful community for us as well. We now count many of the Graland families as our dearest friends. We are so grateful to have chosen this school and this community when we first came to Denver.

We feel so lucky to have found this lovely community. The teachers and staff know our kids well. Everyone is supportive. The parents all work to make it an inclusive, friendly, welcoming environment that we all collectively want for our kids. I cannot overstate the level of satisfaction I have had with our experience at Graland. Not only is the quality of the education exceptional but so is the overall culture of the school. This is entirely the result of the administration prioritizing and engaging the entire community kids, parent, educators and staff. There are so many things to love about Graland. We have our oldest son finishing his second year and his daily affection for what hes learning and discovering is contagious. Theres plenty of opportunities for parents to be involved and I appreciate that I feel welcomed into different roles of involvement even as the new parent.

We have two other kids not yet at Graland but we feel confident applying knowing that even if they have different learning needs, Graland has the resources and the experienced teachers to meet those needs and give each of my children success at learning.

From the community and teachers to the education and enrichment opportunities, Graland is an amazing place on every level. The focus on cultivating the whole child is evident from day 1 and we love how character and leadership are instilled in the students at a very young age and woven through out the curriculum all the way through from Pre-K to 8th grade.

What I love most about the school is how the curriculum is coordinated across all the various subjects. So for example, if your child is learning about the solar system in science they might do art projects based on space /solar system in art and learn space vocabulary in Spanish class. The best thing about Graland ,though, is the community--warm, active , involved parents and educators. You can be as involved as much or as little as you would like. Graland is a unique and special place!

After several years at Graland we removed our two children and it was the best educational decision we could have made. Both children started in Kindergarten was great and we really loved the community of teachers and parents. However, as we progressed in grades we were BEYOND DISAPPOINTED with the quality of academics. The school is overly focused on diversity, equity and inclusivity to a point that is detrimental to the schools academics. While my husband and I agree that DEI is important, what is more important is academic success. This is where Graland is FAILING their community. In my opinion, the academics of the school are BASIC at best with too much focus on art, drama, music and recess. If you have interest in this school I highly suggest you ask about academic rigor and test scores. While we were at the school the math and reading ERB (standardized testing), were below average and after all aren't you paying for academic success or are you paying for diversity equity and inclusivity?

My son has been at graland for over 3 years and we love the commitment to the academic strides the teachers and staff have brought out of him. Teachers are so committed to helping him celebrate areas of strength and improve areas of growth - on top of creating a classroom environment where everyone feels welcome, and parents are always included . Theres always a way to be involved and to ask questions to help mirror what is being taught at the school. I think the school contributes to a thoughtful and special community where kids are pushed to excel and find where they thrive in academia. The faculty and staff are always lending a helping hand to ensure teachers themselves are supported in the classroom. It truly is a team approach between the school and home.

We have had a wonderful experience at Graland for both my daughters and would highly recommend the school! Each kid is a very different learner and the school is able to accommodate their needs. Not only are the academics strong, but they also teach important skills like leadership, community building, thinking outside the box and creativity. Their experiences at the school teach them to be lifetime learners. Each teacher is extremely personable and you can tell that they are very passionate about what they are doing.

We have had our child at Graland for over 4 years now. We have been beyond disappointed in our sons academic progress. I honestly have no idea where the school stands academically and they are not transparent about comprehensive test scores by grade. Most of the parent/teacher/administration meeting are not focused on academic progress, but rather social justice. We could not be more disappointed with our sons experience here. We feel the school is failing us and the community within it.

There are many praiseworthy adjectives to describe Graland; scholarly, fun, intentional, fostering, growth, welcoming.

I am a parent that is always seeking attentive, caring and empathetic leadership for my children. I am interested in an all around education for academics and life skills. I have found all of those things at Graland. I learned so much about my children in the admissions process and found it extremely valuable to really see my kiddos. We were thankfully able to join their amazing school! We have been even more impressed with the warm welcome and inspiring staff. The teachers are lovely, thoughtful and inspiring. The core staff is focused, transparent and accountable . Highest recommendation!

If I could choose not to go here, I would. At first, in the lower school (grades PreK-4) There was no problem. I loved school so much and it made me love math, reading, and a lot of subjects. Then, middle school came. Immediately in fifth grade I was PUMMELED with homework. It is overwhelming, as I spend 30 minutes to an hour on one subject PER NIGHT. AND I HAVE 4 DIFFERENT SUBJECTS + SPANISH. They dont understand that kids actually have lives and arent mindless machines. If you miss homework, you have little to no empathy no matter the reason.

Now to talk about the teachers. Oh boy. Again, in lower school most of the teachers are fine. Then we get to middle school. The teachers make you feel so intimidated and are very rude. Once I got screamed at because I said okay to my math teacher. She might have taken it the wrong way, but she continued to yell at me even when I told her that I wasnt trying to be rude. The teachers get mad at you for no reason, and they dont pay attention to your feelings at all. Some of my teachers yell at the students so much that it is just a normal thing now; we talk, we get yelled at. They also dont care at all about your mental health, as they dont accept reasons for missing/late assignments and they dont hesitate to email parents. WE. ARE. NOT. MINDLESS. MACHINES.

Tip: if you go to this school, go for only lower school.

The only reason that I didnt give this one star is because the lower school is good.

We have two children who have attended Graland since kindergarten - one is now in middle school and one is in the lower school. The small class sizes, excellent teachers, dedicated faculty and staff, and well-rounded program make Graland an exceptional school environment for all kinds of students. We are especially grateful for the effort and commitment put forth by the teachers, faculty and staff during the pandemic to develop safe and effective protocols to enable in-person learning this year. I would recommend Graland to any family looking for a caring, well-rounded, challenging and fun k-8 program for their children.

I have three boys who attend Graland. I am very impressed with the faculty and leadership team. The quality of education, personalized instruction and commitment to the parents and students exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Graland to anyone searching for a school.

Graland is our wonderful community and our happy place! My daughters found their love of reading and community service here. There are many opportunities to become involved as a family, individual or child. Over the past four years, their skilled teacher/staff teams have paired my girls well with engaging, kind and knowledgeable teachers to compliment each of their learning styles. The curriculum offers well-rounded aspects: community service, kindness, wellness, challenging academics, enrichments and a wide-variety of sports.

Graland has been a great home to our kids for 8 years and counting. But it's this year that I've really come to appreciate the school's expertise and depth of caring. The leadership, administration, Board, and AMAZING TEACHERS have put so much thought, time investment and personal sacrifice into making 2020-21 as "normal" - and meaningful - as possible. It's not a perfect experience, but perfect wasn't in the cards anywhere this year. I trust the school with my kids, at a time when trust is at a huge premium.
