This school is not very great when it comes to teaching the children. Teachers often rush their lesson and then proceed to assign so much work, to the point it becomes impossible to complete before the deadline. Moreover my child tells me that other kids say that the schoolwork interferes with their sleep schedule and leisure activities. Not only that, kids are too scared to ask questions and even engage in class, as these teachers scold kids over the littlest things. For example a child was asking a question since they didnt understand a topic, and the teacher yelled at them because it was a stupid question. Most importantly, teachers often assign different types of class work with some writing essays while others dont have. Which I find extremely stupid as kids dont learn the same concepts or skills. Children are on survival mode, as many of them may use AI to complete their assignments due to the workload, though dont learn anything at all. A lot of students are burned out with some having panic attacks. The uniforms are uncomfortable and cheap. Some children have to wake as early as 7am, which is deteriorating their health and ability to perform well in class. Many teacher mainly favourite kids who are popular for some reason. This school in short seems to be very mismanaged and there are a great number of other reasons on why I believe this school is terrible for students. You can get a the same level of education if you were to spend time to teach your children yourself, rather then to send them to an academic institution. Though if your children are willing to deal with all this stress, then this school might be a good fit for them. Otherwise there are way better options out there.

This is the best school in Aurora! We switched from Home schooling in 2022 and my kids are thriving. The teaching staff is fantastic!

Best Charter in Aurora I think. Admin does a fantastic job managing funds, and treats their staff and scholars amazing. Awesome specials, and tons of support for teachers and scholars.

Mrs. Cory was my daughters teacher... I'm still not entirely sure what happened, but either her or one of her kinder aides physically grabbed my childs head and pushed it to her work, then my child was disciplined, NOT the staff.

My kids were only at this school for a month when it became clear that the leadership and a lot of staff look at the student / parent population as lower class; to be bullied and frightened into conforming to the rules. For example humiliation of students with the wrong belt because of a "no hair out of place" adherence to dress code and the humiliation of students whose families haven't met the required volunteer hours (with a red, yellow, green sign by their name in a hallway.) Parent board members with self-important attitudes were allowed more control and influence than any charter school I've ever seen. I've been in public education for 14 years. If you think this school is a better escape than another Aurora Public School, keep looking.

My children were only enrolled for 4 weeks. The lack of support of students was painfully clear. The new Principal is disorganized, overwhelmed by her new responsibility and unprofessional.

Aurora Academy is a fantastic school. The staff genuinely care for the success and welfare of all of their students. They have a great community & are extremely welcoming to parents in their school.

We were unsure of the charter program when we enrolled in the lottery system at AACS. When we got in however, we were thrilled since the public schools in our neighborhood had very low test scores. Since August, our kids love school, their teachers and their friends. My son is in keyboarding and learning things I never knew how to do and my daughter is on the honor roll and reads all the time. We said we would give it a year and see how they did, we will be back next year for sure! Only wish they had a high school too.

I have worked at this school for over 10 years. What brings me back every day, now with my son, is not convenience, but a deeply held belief in the strength of our community. We are dedicated to rigorous curriculum, employ capable and compassionate support staff, demand accountability and professionalism at every level, and I have never worked with a more capable and passionate group of teachers. I trust my colleagues with the most precious thing in my life and feel truly blessed to be a part of this school.

I have two children attending AACS, the oldest for five years, my youngest for two. I have nothing to say but great things about this school. My oldest struggled in Kindergarten with reading. The school has wonderful support staff that worked with him on a daily basis and brought him up to grade level. Now, four years later he is reading at a grade level three years above where he is at! Both kids love going to school and their teachers! Their teachers are supportive and are great at communicating with me. Each family does have to complete volunteer hours and I love this idea. The teachers welcome me into their classroom and I am never at a loss on how to complete my hours. Loretta does a great job plugging parents into this school to complete their volunteer time. She works with parents who are working full time and not able to come during the day. AACS treats us like family and I know my kids matter. I know they are coming to a safe and loving environment when I drop them off.

These teachers stay after school and tutor for students that are not on grade level. These teachers have students in their classroom during their lunch hour to make sure they are understanding the content.

My son has homework every night. I think that is fair since we are preparing him to go to high school and then college. Building the expectation of homework is best done at a young age so they are prepared for what is coming next.

Aurora Academy has been a wonderful school to be in. The teachers are beyond helpful and are truly dedicated to the success of all of the students. The students receive intervention every day in whatever subject they need help in. This school does not let children fail and then do something. This school has a proactive approach that supports students to do their very best at every moment.

The main reason we came to Aurora Academy Charter School, the principal. The principal is a real person, she knows all of the families personally and is personally invested in all of her students academic success. I have seen her many times stop and ask students, "are you happy in the school?" She really wants to know how the kids feel about the school. The principal finds ways to support each student to be successful.

This school has been exactly what our family was looking for. My son has been very happy at Aurora Academy Charter School and as a parent I could not have asked for anything more.

I have two children at AACS and absolutely love this school. My oldest son started at AACS his 5th grade year after our neighbors recommended this school to us. Up until attending AACS my son had terrible experiences with school. He has grown so much in his 4 years at AACS; academically, and personally. There is such a strong sense of community here, and every child feels comfortable being themselves. My youngest son started here as a kindergartner, and looks forward to coming to school every day. He would rather be at school than home on vacation. Both of my kids have made great friends, and have had such amazing support from the entire staff. AACS is a small community that opens their arms to everyone that enters. I couldn't ask for a better place for my boys to get an education.

The purpose of my review is to offer an entirely different perspective on the fourth grade teacher discussed below. Our daughter had this fourth grade teacher last year. I can say that we were overjoyed with our daughter's growth and excitement to go to school each day. This was in large part because of her teacher. All that being said, upon hearing of this incident, we sat down with our daughter and discussed how she interacted with her teacher. That is my responsibility as a parent, and your responsibility as a parent to ask questions when you are concerned. We found that this teacher enriched our daughters fourth grade experience, helped her develop the confidence to be involved in theater and provided our daughter the foundation to grow as a student and person. This fourth grade teacher is unique. He shows genuine interest in the students he teaches and works very hard to give them the confidence that is sometimes difficult for them to achieve on their own. A year later, he still remembers a word that she used to describe an activity in a story she wrote. The written word is very important to him. In my family's experience with this teacher, he has written notes to both my family and my daughter. He has nicknames posted on each of the students desks, and he uses those nicknames frequently. They are funny and entirely juvenile. Parents are encouraged to be part of each and every activity in his classroom. My wife and I were in his classroom 9 or 10 times last year. We were always very pleased with our student's involvement in projects, parties and activities.
As a parent, each of us is responsible for the safety of our children. It is our right to question behavior that we find odd, or uncomfortable. But, it would not shock me if this teacher sent a note to a student who he perceived as struggling in a new school, or struggling to fit in. That is the type of man that I have found this teacher to be: caring, sensitive and thoughtful. Thank you for the opportunity to offer a different perspective than the one offered below.

I think this is a great school! I was beyond excited when I got a call saying they had a spot open for my daughter if I was still interested. Yes! I'm not sure about one parents review being so low. My daughter was in Kindergarten this year, and she is learning things I don't remember learning in kindergarten. She is doing extremely well in reading and math. They even set goals in class which is great. Yes, you are required to volunteer in order for your child/children to go here. If you are a single parent household it's 20 hours per year and if you're in a two parent household its 40 hours per year. At first I was a little freaked out..I didn't know if I'd find the time. However, the school and staff make it super easy too do. I completed my 40 hours with "take home" projects (cutting out shapes, making books, ect) I helped in their garden, school picture day, cleaning classrooms on a Saturday, and a field trip. And I still plan to volunteer more before the school year is out. i love this school and so does my daughter.

Over excede my expectations, I pull my son from a cherry creck school to try in this school and in less than a year this school showed an excelent system where my kid got in volved in activities as fast as he was not extrange. This schooll also probide profesional cousuling service for students and they are very good.

Aurora Academy Charter School (K -8) provides my children with a positive learning environment. My graduating eighth grader will be in honors classes in an Aurora Public Schools high school next year. The staff are outstanding, the faculty really care about the success of all students, and the parents' involvement enriches the sense of community. I think that the education and preparation they are receiving at Aurora Academy will serve them well as they move on in their education and throughout their lives. I have been impressed with the high quality academic, athletic, and extra curricular opportunities at Aurora Academy. I have seen my children grow as students and as responsible, intelligent, and caring members of a community. "Expect more, achieve more!"

My son has attended this school two years. Parents are asked to volunteer but some parents become very involve to the point where they are teacher assistance and are they are the one's teaching and discipline the children. I disliked this because I am not sure if they are even qualified to take on this role but the school needs as much free help it can get. Also the students are not challenged enough, the teacher focuses on the children that need additional supports and ignores the other student. My son could count up to 1,000 when he started Kindergarten here but the assessment stated he could count up to 36. I figured the teacher or probably parent got tired of hearing him count and just wrote down 36. Also they focus on a Saxon learning that basically teaches kids to critically think which is fine but that's all they work on. The TCAPS scores began to decline after fourth grade because the students are never really learning the academic criteria they solely focus on critical thinking.

this school i terrific .. every teacher teaches wonderful and they teach every school fairly . more than half of our school have a 4.0 gpa or higher ... expect more achieve more is for u s... we strive own it achieve and respect (soar) .. bring your kids here they will love it

We have 2 children in this school for the past 5 years. I volunteer every week in the classroom and my husband is a Cub Scout den leader. We LOVE this school. Academics are outstanding, but more than that, the staff is entirely supportive of what makes the best learning environment for your child. I have had zero negative experiences thus far (we were going to homeschool but got in one week before school started so went with Aurora Academy instead). We have never regretted it.
