My son goes to Laredo, and he says it's the worst school he's ever been to. He's bullied every day. Dean offers virtually no help, and the students don't care. He can't even go to the bathroom properly because he's bullied so severely. Students simply ignore teachers' requests, break things, and take things away. SO! NEVER! DON'T! SEND! YOUR CHILDREN! THERE! Otherwise, he'll be bullied and insulted every day. If you want your son to go there, Laredo is definitely not for him.

My daughter attended Laredo 6-8th grade. There was a steady decline in culture and safety while she was there. There were many physical fights each week, sometimes more than a few a day. Kids feel unsafe to use the restrooms because the common instances of being jumped, kids doing drugs and performing sexual acts. When my daughter was harassed for several months we brought to the school and they did very little to help. This bullying lead to physical assault on her best friend, which led to secondary attacks on line. The school still did little to help regulate and enforce punishment on those involved. The classrooms also have little regulation and disruptive kids are commonly taking over which does not allow teacher's to teach. My daughter suffered emotionally and in her studies while at Laredo.

The teachers here really nice but some of the deans don't do the right and they blame the kid that didn't do anything and when they ask kids for evidence they pick the kids that lie and didn't know what happened.

The emphasis on positive and inclusive behavior is so appreciated. Teachers and staff have been at Laredo for many years and do everything they can to support our students growth.

My son has been bullied several days in a row now, I have let staff and the assistant principal know. And still nothing has been done to make my son feel safe to go to school.

They have no respect for single fathers and how they want family members to assist them. They have a total disregard for what Dad wants.
Posted: October 24, 2018
The student isn't shown respect by the teacher, so students don't respect the teacher.

Awful, they don't respect the wishes of single fathers. They choose how the parent is contacted, even though he told them his email is for business only. So there is now no contact.

Leadership and this school shall not be in the same sentence. These “leaders” stand by their payroll and minutes In the day till it’s time to go. No compassion. No care. No worries. For the children that’s left to the ridicule/ bullying / and struggles of this environment.

They support the bullying and it you are a parent(s) that wants answers or even a meeting with the bullying parents to discuss the matter; you will not get any sort. School will stand behind the privacy act or “they are handling the matter but won’t let you know the try outcome” methodology.

HIGHLY AND EXTREMELY STRONGLY DISAGREE!!! This school tolerates bullying and aggressive individuals. I have never experienced a school that have so many kids under its SRO (School Resource Officer/Police) list. These kids have rap sheets not test scores.

Overall complete disaster. Sad because I was warned by so many to not send my child here. But I was going off the post and trying to have a positive feeling as well as give this school a chance. IÂ’m from out of state and settled in this area do to its high school ratings. Unfortunately my openness has cost my child. SheÂ’s terrified. SheÂ’s been assaulted. SheÂ’s been bullied. Her initial middle school experience has been not short of a horror flick. Please Please Please!!!! Save your childÂ’s future and donÂ’t send them here.

With everyday interactions with the kids the staff mirror to the kids what integrity, compassion and respect feels like to reinforce the ideology of these characteristics. The school does an amazing job at developing strong character is our kids. Love this school!

This school teaches that diversity is good...and being different is not a bad thing. This school teaches the kids not to bully, steal or be disrespectful to one another. In it's everyday interactions with the kids the staff mirror to the kids what integrity, compassion and respect feels like to reinforce the ideology of these characteristics. The school does an amazing job at developing strong character is our kids. Love this school!

The teachers are committed to our kids learning and creativity not regurgitation but actual learning! I know kids tend to regurgitate what they hear and see- however these kids MY KID has been given the tools and encouraged to use those tools to be creative and original as possible.

My daughter receives homework on one day and is fully aware when the homework will be due. If she gets homework on Monday it's due Wednesday. Basically, giving her an additional day to complete the homework. It's not a lot of homework at this point because she is a 6 grader and it's manageable for her. Yet, the way the school sets the schedules for the kids seems to keep in mind that our kids are KIDS and need that spacer for returning homework and she rarely ever have weekend homework unless it's a special project. That gives her time to do kid stuff and unwind...then she is also more encouraged to do weekend reading and miscellaneous study because there is no pressure that she has to do it which makes it more of a leisure and less of a chore. Love the assigned homework situation at Laredo!

The staff is amazing... they are there to keep our kids safe, motivated, active, attentive, positive, creative and growing and moving forward. I have been very pleased! All of them from the people at the front desk when you first walk in- the main office and every single office after that. Where do I start; Mr. Gehr is simply awesome and he does so much!! I can not find words to express enough gratitude and up most respect for this man. He cares about our kids. He cares about their safety and well-being. Again, this man does so much-
he is EVERYWHERE...ALL THE TIME!!! Great staff member- they better hold on to him. Mrs. Armour this lady is the best. She welcomed our family from day one and I can be a pest, however, she makes the time for me. The lady cares about our families and the diversity challenges that we face as a wide community. This lady is very supportive...she is one of those people that I know this school is good because of her combined efforts to make it better! The Deans, Ms. Koch and all of them really have been satisfying to work with because they listen and understand. They want things to be good even when they sometimes aren't they really want them to be and try to find ways to see that peace is restored. They are good people! The security goes above and beyond...nuff said, that is what you want in your front line employee's and that's what they do on a consistent basis! I feel like they are not going to let folks come in that building that have to business in there. AND they are not going to let our kids run a muck! I respect them sincerely and the daily task they face with keeping our kids from harms way. The 6 grade teachers like Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Stokesbury, Ms. Miller and I could go on and on with the teachers...are exceptionally knowledgeable educators. Mrs. Thomas comes off as a tough teacher- well she cares so much about our kids education and growth it shows thru tough love! If /when she leaves this school I think that would be an epic let down to our kids. Band director/teacher- leaving soon- very passionate (do not know how he will be replaced) Mr. Black terrific drama teacher/ over good model to our kids. Lunch staff: don't know how they remain so calm during that time of day for the kids- they do it and make it look easy! (It's not, I have been there during lunch) Over all I'd recommend Laredo to anyone. So much to offer.

We moved to Laredo from out of state and could not be happier. My son's teachers do a fantastic job communicating with us. Emails or calls are returned. My son is gifted and is challenged. I just wish honors classes were offered in all content areas, not just two, but his two other teachers work hard at challenging him. There are lots of electives here too so kids get a well-rounded education.

No community closeness. You're a lost number in a sea of lost numbers. Would not recommend.

I was a nervous wreck sending my daughter to middle school this year. I am so thankful for the 6th grade teachers and staff at Laredo. My daughter loves school and for the first time really loves Math. Her Math teacher is awesome and makes Math fun. She has always been a good students but Laredo has really allowed my daughter to shine making Honor Roll both Semester 1 and 2.

This is an amazing school! They even have some sort of "money" to help children and teens stay positive and well controlled. Never have i seen any bullying or others hurting someone else! I recommend you send your children.

This is my daughter's 3rd year at Laredo. I wouldn't let her go anywhere else. She loves school and is very successful at a time when adolescence usually makes kids lazy and withdrawn. The MYP program is perfect for her. The internationally-based curriculum is so enriching and really expands her world and understanding. All students take music, art, and foreign language. The drama program is top notch, as are choir and orchestra. Her advanced core classes are really challenging her as well. Don't let the test scores fool you, this school has good growth scores (that's what counts), and advanced students thrive here in the MYP (International Baccalaureate) program. Its a really good culture and healthy environment here, too. Granted, being in the honors classes, my daughter is mostly surrounded by kids who are driven to succeed and encourage each other. She has seen only one fight in more than 2 years. She never sees bullying, she has never seen or been offered drugs, and none of her friends are sexually active. Laredo has a really good group of kids and fantastic staff and I'm very impressed. Middle school was horrible for me. I wish I'd gone to a school like Laredo.

I work full time and the occasions that I have been to the school for activities has been so positive and uplifting. The teachers are so wonderful here. From the principal to the front receptionist each person is respectful, they work with you as a parent. They inform you and allow the kids to use anything they have (equipment) if needed for a project/presentation. I couldn't ask for a better school.

While my experience with both all of my sons 6th grade teachers, his dean and his counselor have been nothing but positive, I could care less for the assistant principle and how she chose to handle a discipline issue with a student that has some very apparently social and behavioral issues. While protecting all students of a school is important a little more interest in the student causing some issues is much needed as well. Kids are not born to be bad, there are underlying issues that cause children to act out. My advice for her, the assistant principle, take a little more interest in the cause of the probelm instead of trying to throw away the child causing the problem. Had that taken place earlier in the process, the event itself may not have happened at all.
