This school is run by an admissions officer who favors certain applicants and denies others at her discretion. It's very unfortunate for this school that the enrollment process is so unfairly controlled.

CCA does not enhance a students natural ability to do anything academic. They do not strive to make the students better than they already are. They do not prepare you for any particular high school or high school at all. I am a CCA alumni and believe that only a select amount of teachers truly care about the students and not how much they get paid to "teach". They do not consider students' perspectives or opinions in any respect- academic, social, emotional. There are a few teachers such as the GT/ALITA supervisor and a few select others who really care and are some of the most outstanding people I have met. This school is corrupt. It made my experience as a present student and a future student in highschool more difficult than they could have made it. I only rated a 3/5 stars because I have met some rare, amazing people there. This school needs to do better. Especially when it's run by parents and they should be the exact people we expect to care about the students the most since they have children of their own. All they care about is image. How selfish and disappointing.

I went to CCA from Kindergarten to 6th grade ( I'm in high school now ). I'll admit, the early learning in my first elementary years at CCA was beneficial, as it set me ahead for success in many academic categories early on. But, looking back it was NOT worth it. This school is a prison and there are no forms of self-expression. The rules and dress code are so strict to the point where it is VERY difficult to have fun. The staff are completely brainwashed and the PTO is incredibly entitled. They also have major issues with microaggressive racism among teachers AND students. The teachers are crazy, they use bullying and harsh language to gain classroom reform. On top of that, the CCA curriculum was so out of place that when I went to the next best public middle school in my area, it took me a while to adjust. The school is falling apart as I type this paragraph. This school is absolutely ridiculous, and I hated every second at this school. Trust me when I say, do NOT send your kid here unless you want them to come out of it with mental health issues and PTSD.

I’ve experienced enough to know this school absolutely sucks. They don’t care about any of the students mental health and simply just say “I don’t get paid enough”. It truly sucks to know that none of the Principals/Assistant Principals really take action on bullying and it truly shows how little they care. I can barely go for a whole week of school because when I do there is just constant use of bullying from teachers. The constant tearing down students confidence, making students hate being here, etc. School is supposed to be a fun space for kids but when you come here they just tell you to shut up you can’t talk, pay attention, it's your problem not mine. They try and make this school look perfect but I have had the worst experience ever here and almost every person once they hit 7th grade wants to move schools..

I have a 1st and 3rd grader at CCA. If you are looking for a strong academic program where your kids will get pushed, this is the school for you. It's what we looked for and haven't looked back since. Excellent school!

This school punishes kindergarteners. It is too strickt and bullying by other kids and teachers is common. This school takes joy out of learning. We had terrible experience.

Honestly everyone, this school is terrible. It used to be something worth scoffing at, now it is full of teachers who bully their students, an abused punishment system, and inconsiderate staff.

I have had 4 kids go through this school, three of them attended from kindergarten to eight grade. It is safe to say that I know a lot about this school.

Bottom line everyone, so long as Mrs. Mahan is of any leadership position in this school, and as long as the teachers constantly shut down the thinking process of the students, you do not want to put your children here. The words "charter school" is of no meaning here. You are so much better off putting your students somewhere that ACTUALLY prepares your kids for the future. This place, is all talk.

Overall it was good experience, I just wish there was more support to students who may need a little extra help. The environment of the school really felt close knit. Numerous staff and kids from various grade levels all told us that they were going to miss my son.

My son was struggling quite a bit and we felt that he was falling through the cracks which is why we took him out. The school only tried to do something after we brought it up to the good teacher he had but by then we had already made the decision to pull him out. We put him in the neighborhood school and they put him in a remedial reading group within the first week of school.

Some teachers are nice, some are not. Overall, I am not impressed with their effectiveness as it feels that it is just a job for many of them and they put in the minimum amount of effort. Of course this is a generalization and there are teachers that really like their classes. I guess a more accurate statement is that not much is expected of teachers by the administration.

Leadership is the real downfall of CCA. The attitude is that parents are the enemy and should be kept at arms length in all matters. Parents are just a necessary evil. This attitude trickles down to the expectations of the rest of the staff. A complete replacement of administration could possibly save this school.

The special education department is all contracted through the District. I hear that CCSD has a reputation for excellence in this department. I can't give credit to the school for that.

The school refuses to address teacher bullying of students. This happens mostly at the middle school level, and I would not say it is every teacher, but there are a few standouts who are openly hostile and publicly mock students.

Overall, my family was disappointed in the quality of education this school provides and we decided to leave after a couple years. We thought we had hit the jackpot when we got our kids admitted, but we quickly learned that it is all smoke and mirrors. What we found is that mediocrity is lauded as excellence. Teachers do not go the extra mile, and in some cases, it feels that they really don't even care about their students. Teacher bullying of students has been a problem at this school for years. This teacher attitude is the direct result of leadership problems at the school. My understanding is that a new principal has been hired, so that may help. However, the parents as a whole are pretty apathetic to address these problems, and the Board does not do its job of providing a checks and balances to the administration. So, the school is run by a few elite parents who are buddies with the administrators. The school does get high test scores (although there is a current downward trend), but I would argue that this is despite anything the school is doing, not because of it. The families that attend are very committed to their children's education and as a result, there is a higher level of parental involvement which will lead to higher test scores. My summary comment is that there are better options out there, including the neighborhood schools that CCSD operates.

This school has gone off the rails & is in the middle of a crash. I've had my boy at this school for several years now & it has never been worse. The administration, which has virtually no oversight, will intentionally go after families/parents/kids that bring up legitimate issues. They are incompetent at best and nearly criminal at worst.
My advice: do not go near this school for the next 3-4 years, until the administration has been cleaned out & replaced. Request to view the SAC survey if you are considering this school.

My child had issues with one boy, who constantly bothered/teased/annoyed her. It went on for over one year. As a result, my child developed stomach problems from the constant stress. Dave Loomis did a great job of putting a stop to the boy's behavior as soon as he learned of it. He also assigned my child to a different locker, since the boy's was right beside it. Dave made himself available and was always approachable. Dave is great at handling these situations and most other situations, since he makes it a point to get to know the students. He would be fantastic as principal of the school, but the only downfall is that it would take him away from the students. He's great with the kids and one of the last great employees in leadership!

K-2 years were fantastic. The teachers were excellent and had many years' experience! Third and fifth grade were satisfactory.

Fourth grade (2015/2016) was, by far, the worst experience ever, for my child, and for us. There are some good teachers at the school, but fewer and fewer each year. Turnover is a problem, so younger, and less experienced teachers are more common. Obviously, everything starts with the principal. The culture of the school has changed, dramatically, since he started. He has driven away employees, previously in administration, and some teachers. He leads like a dictator and does not have the children's best interests in mind. He says what he needs to say, to appease parents in the moment, and backs up his teachers, even if they are not acting appropriately. When my child attended the school, we had many issues with one of the fourth grade teachers. She didn’t allow me to meet the class during a field trip, which every other teacher allowed, so I went to the other fourth grade teacher, since he had much more experience at CCA. He said there was no problem with me doing that. When she found out that I had gone to him, she called me, upset. It was an unpleasant conversation. She spoke to me in a very unprofessional manner and lied to me about the reason I was, supposedly, not allowed to meet the class, for the field trip. When we met with the principal about it, he admitted that he encouraged her to lie, if she felt it necessary. I couldn’t believe he supported and encouraged her behavior. She was extremely controlling and immature, and didn’t want to be questioned by anyone, which is absolutely the wrong attitude to have as an elementary teacher. After our disagreement, she treated my child differently. She made it obvious that she had favorites, and my child wasn't one of them. For some reason, she continues to be allowed to treat parents however she pleases.

Also, students of employees and members of the PTO, are given preferential treatment, which is obvious to other parents. Many students have left the school, and continue to do so, because of how it is being run. It's unfortunate, because it used to be a great school. There are much better schools in CCSD, but it will take years for people to figure it out. We are so glad that we pulled our child out of this school!

It really depends on which teacher you have. Most teachers assign a reasonable amount of homework. One of the fourth grade teachers, however, assigned a ridiculous amount of classwork and homework. She also almost always assigned homework on breaks. She's clearly teaching the wrong grade. In my opinion, she shouldn't be teaching at all, but if she's going to teach, high school would be a much better fit. Many of her students were under so much stress year after year, because of this. Sure, she allowed the children to catch up before school and during lunch, but why is it necessary for fourth graders to do that?? Another issue is that her curriculum was not the same as the other fourth grade teacher's. When the other fourth grade teacher was teaching alongside her, he didn't assign half the work she did, which was great for his students, but imagine how her students felt, knowing that. They are children, and she either doesn't realize what's appropriate for their age group, or just doesn't care. She assigned more work than all the fifth grade teachers, combined. I'm all for homework, but within reason. Parents of current students say that nothing has changed.

I think the comment that basically says if you don't like the school exactly as the administration says, then find another school is right on target. That's not a good thing. We chose a charter school because we wanted a place where the parents had a voice. This school has flipped this concept on its head - if you are one of the people on the Parent Senate, then you are allowed to have an opinion. If not, then you better sit down and shut up. The Parent Senate basically rubber stamps everything the Administration does. As a result, rather than escaping the public school bureaucracy, you are simply at the whim of the Principal who is subject to no oversight. That works out great if you agree with everything he does. If not, watch out. The strength of the school is the teachers but the Principal has been running some of the best ones out lately. If you want to conform, have no mind of your own and not be able to advocate for the best interests of the students, this is the place for you.

Hmm, reading the prior comments, there clearly are some folks that didn't think CCA was the right school for them. No school, teacher or person is perfect so I am sure there are some legitimate gripes but the beauty of Charter Schools is choice. If you don't like the program, find another place for your kiddo that works for them. The unfortunate part of our social media society is that you tend to hear more loudly from the disgruntled and not the majority that is satisfied to elated. Both of our children started at CCA and have been there going on 7 years. We WANT an academically rigorous school. We WANT homework. We WANT character development. And our kids have LOTS of opportunity to socialize and get involved. We are very proud to be at a top rated school like CCA and we recommend it to everyone!!

My 2nd grader was accepted to CCA this year. And so far I am very pleased. He is actually being challenged. He came from our neighborhood school, where I felt there was no challenge at all. I have a 5th grader on the wait list, and he can't wait to get in because even he can see how much his brother is learning. Homework is not excessive, at least in this grade. And I personally like the pick-up/drop-off arrangement.

You will get a good education at this school, but I hated the drop-off and pick-up situation, and there is a bullying problem as well. New students that previously came from another school will more than likely struggle at this school academically. I recommend starting during kindergarten. I wound up having to pull my child out of this school for a few different reasons, and I'm glad I did. Some of the teachers are great but others lack in effective communication and helping to come up with a solution to better any struggle a child is having. And something more needs to be done about the bullying problems they have there.

As a current parent, I have to say I absolutely love Cherry Creek Academy. We recently moved our girls over from St. Mary's Academy and are thrilled with ease of transition, the increased focus on academic excellence as well as character development. Students coming out of CCA are well-rounded, polite, and well-educated students. It is a pleasure to see both of my daughters flourish in an environment with dedicated teachers and administration. We couldn't be happier!

This school teaches competitiveness and the attitude is reflected in the students. The lack of community with this competitiveness teaches children to be mean to each other and that is not integrity in my opinion.

My children were accepted this year and I was super hopeful this school would be excellent. Unfortunately, our experience was not what was expected. The academics of this school are on point. That means 8 hours of academics only- no socialization, no community, and your children not developing close relationships with any peers. However, your children will be ahead of other children in the district in regards to academics. My children have mentioned over and over how there is much bullying in this school and how people are not nice. I guess only the strong survive starts in kindergarten here.. The teachers at this school are phenomenal and some of the best educators I have ever encountered- so nothing negative to be said there.
For us personally it was the 2-3 hours of homework nightly, our children not being able to be children, develop relationships, the pick up and drop off, and my kids hating school and reading where they loved it before that is causing us to pull out of this school. It is more like a military school than anything I have ever seen. I only attended private and charter schools my entire education and I have never experienced the lack of value the children hold in the eyes of the staff. We were just a number.. Don't go here if you want to raise children who value people.

I am so happy I pulled my kids out of this school. They have a number of issues. First, the principal is terrible. He only talks about data and scores. He doesn't actually care for the little humans he is responsible for.
Second, the homework is excessive and meaningless. My kids are at the neighborhood school now and we have a moderate amount of homework. Our evenings have improved drastically. We have more time as a family to play a game, take a walk, read books, etc. and guess what?! They are learning just as much without all the homework. In fact, I think they actually retain more because their brains have an opportunity to rest.
Third, the pickup system is a disaster. You want to greet your kids? Good luck! You have to sit in the car line for 20 minutes and you can't get out to hug them or help them with their belongings. There is extremely limited parking around the school and one of the crazy neighbors might come out yelling at you if you park near their house to go into the school.
Fourth, the curriculum and methods they use are out dated, especially the math program. CCA is all about worksheets and "showing" that they've done work. Kids have a variety of learning styles, but CCA is inflexible and will not adapt to kids who don't fit their method...rote memorization.
Additionally the lunch program is terrible. The cost is outrageous and you have to order pretty far in advance for food that is mediocre at best.
I am just so happy that we left here. At our neighborhood school we have a strong sense of community. We play with friends before and after school. We have so many opportunities for connection that you just cannot get at a charter school like CCA. Don't be fooled by the test scores, this school is not worth it. My kids had anxiety about being at school there. I will say it again, I'm SO happy we left CCA!

This school is very strict, and a few of the teachers are just over the top when it comes to rules, but overall, it's a decent balance for some kids . There are some fantastic teachers, but unfortunately, there are more and more new, less experienced teachers joining the faculty. Some of the newer teachers just don't have the experience with younger children that great elementary teachers need to have. The principal does not always address problems, likes to make empty promises, and is quick to judge parents. He is most concerned about his resume, having the latest technology, and the highest test scores. After only five years with new, very expensive smart boards, more new ones were purchased this year, along with blue tooth control devices, for all classrooms. The field is in terrible shape year after year, yet we have the latest technology. Priorities need to be adjusted and I would like to see someone else, more focused on the kids and less on money spent, running this school.

The problem with this assessment driven school is that you have kids competing and a sense of "perfectionism" that is unhealthy. Then kids are constantly comparing themselves to others rather than supporting their peers. There is a problem with bullying here.

We attended CCA for four years. While the child got a sound academic education, other important facets such as teaching the child to think critically, allowing the child to be creative, and fostering an atmosphere of open and honest communications between administration and parents seemed to be sadly lacking. A few of the teachers and long-time administrators were extraordinary and much cherished; others were detrimental for the self-confidence and development of the child. The leadership has an authoritarian management style; instead of working with parents as partners on this important developmental journey our experience has been that parents who are not on the school senate are treated as a necessary evil (albeit open conduit for financial support) . Nothing replaces going into the school and 'kicking the tires' to get a feel for the atmosphere and sitting down and interviewing the principal before you decide whether the values of this charter school align with your values. For some families a school that seems rigid, domineering and inflexible might have other qualities that make it a fit; we left with the impression that graduates are not necessarily prepared for a smooth transition to high school nor are they given the best tools to be successful beyond high school. Don't rely on school rankings or awards when making this important decisions; rely on your eyes and ears and talk to current and previous parents. Good luck!

CCA is a fantastic school! My son is very bright and is being challenged even in kindergarten. He is learning the same level math as his sister, who is in 3rd grade at our local public elementary school. I really cannot say enough good things about this school! The teachers, staff, and PTO parents are all awesome and all have a very high interest in helping our children and our school succeed. It is beyond organized and the administration staff are very good at their jobs! The principal is a super great guy! We are so grateful to be part of the CCA Family. If I had something negative to say I would absolutely say it, but I don't. Okay, so we really need another parking lot. I am very pleased with the curriculum, environment, and staff! Get your kids on the wait list as soon as they're born!

I just recently graduated from Cherry Creek Academy and both me and my parents couldn't be happier to get out of there. Before assuming that this post is just a student who had a few issues with their teacher, take into account that every single student, as well as most parents, also feel bitterly towards CCA after having an unpleasant middle school experience. When my brother went to Cherry Creek Academy for middle school, the teachers were great. After a faculty change, the quality of learning and fun at the school drastically changed. The middle school teachers behave as gossipy teenage girls, and ask us to respect them. Though teachers have the power in this situation, it's ridiculous to think students will respect you if you have no respect for them. They can be very rude and also need to learn to keep personal problems with students outside of the classroom. Both me as a student, and my parents wish I would've attended a different middle school. Going into high school this year I feel very unprepared both socially and academically. 1 good thing I have to say is the Spanish program is amazing. (Thanks, Sra Alaniz! You were my silver lining.)

I feel blessed that our child received a spot at. CCA. Our son is a very active boy so I was afraid it could be too regimented but be actually thrives here and the school does plenty to foster sports and free time so he has plenty of wiggle time. They have gym class throughout elementary and our son participates in the local soccer, flag football/baseball leagues. That is what children do until middle school - and then they have school organized after school sports. I LOVE the uniforms. Sure the initial investment each year can be tough but I know that the savings of only purchasing weekend clothes is immense. Uniforms equalize the children and keep the focus on them and their classes. It's a blessing that our son isn't worried about what brand jeans or expensive jerseys he wants to wear. We participate in the used clothing sale and make money selling our old uniforms and purchase others at a discount. As far as fundraising we experienced our neighbors public school fundraisers which seemed to be non stop - so public, private or charter it's required. The school does require parents to participate but that's why it works - it takes a village and CCA is truly our partner!

Im a parent of three children at Cherry Creek Academy & have been a teacher for 17 years grades 4th-8th. The teachers work hard to make sure that everyone succeeds. They offer after school help with math, writing, etc at no charge. It is a very diverse school, they are several different cultures represented at CCA. The classes are smaller but, this gives them more individual student teacher time. The students are in a middle school day starting in 5th grade, they change classes, have lockers, are responsible for keeping track of their grades online & assignments in a planner. They have a school wide reading program that requires students to reach an individual goal by reading both fiction and nonfiction books & taking comprehension test on the computer. My kids get so excited about reading more and reaching their individual goals. There are numerous after school activities, band, choir, computers, math club,etc. They have volleyball, basketball & soccer for 6th-8th grade girls and boys. They play other charter schools in the area. They have a great Spanish program for the kids. I'm impressed with how much Spanish my oldest knows. This is a great school in so many ways.

Uniforms that are way too expensive and if you want to buy used at the uniform sale it is all picked over by the organizers. Do you want to go to a public school but still have to pay inordinate amounts of money? This is the place for you. The principal sees parents and students as $$$. Train to the test? You bet, this is the place where you will learn how TCAPS are administered and how to take them (how has the state/federal not caught this yet?) This school COULD be a shining star in the CCSD BUT they chose to think "It is our way or you are an idiot!" Students learn in unique ways but the staff is trained to keep a chair warm. I would suggest staying away from this school. I made it through but at what cost? Last, after all of it there are volunteer hours, senate, after school activities but relatively little to no emphasis on sports. Sports is how some children shine, they become leaders, they compete to win. If you don't have that competition there is zero outlet for assertive or dominant behavior and the children are expected to "fall in line!" "zero tolerance for bullying!" (which has been shown to be detrimental) Google it and educate yourself with citaion!

CCA is a great school. The teachers honestly care about the children; there is a strong academic focus, and the school teaches strong values. It has a limited sports program, but a growing music program. Our daughter loves it there. We strongly recommend it.

I am going into 7th grade, but I've been here since kindergarden. A previous comment was that Cherry Creek Academy had serious bullying problems, which I totally agree to. I have been bullied here, and I don't look weird, have any mental problems, smell bad, etc. but I still get bullied, but not as severely. I'm not going to go into some huge sob story, but I have been punched in the neck, tackled, and plenty of name calling, too. The teachers are ok, they usually don't care about the way-too-strict uniform policy and never seem to notice any of the bullying happening here. Some teachers have told us how much they hate us and how terrible we are. Overall, this school is good academically except for the "math program", Saxon Math. I recommend not going there at all for the middle school, but elementary school is okay. Whether you're in elementary or middle school, though, go to the neighborhood schools instead of this uppity, dramatic, rich, terrible charter school.

Cherry Creek Academy was a good alternative to a mediocre neighborhood school. My kids were bright, but needed to be challenged and CCA does challenge every child to do the best of their ability. It is diverse and the focus is on academics, so it is perfect for average kids as they can thrive academically without as many social distractions. That being said, there is some low level (think annoying sibling type behavior) bullying and in the past, favoritism toward some children and families. Also, your kids can suffer socially as they may not have many friends in their neighborhood. Overall, if you want a focused academic environment for your child, it's a great choice.

I am currently in 7th grade, but I went to Cherry Creek Academy from 2nd grade to 6th grade. Cherry Creek Academy is a great school. It will keep your mind going all through out the day. I was a straight A student and I loved being there!

This school has serious bullying problems over the past years. A number of students ended up transferring out of the school mainly due to being bullied. With the increasing public awareness of the bullying consequences, it is disheartening that the school is still dealing with it ineffectively.

We have 2 boys at CCA, currently in 3rd and 1st grade. The kindergarten team is exceptional with special kudos to the half day teacher. Students come from all over CCSD and there is a surprising amount of diversity. Parental involvement is required by giving 40/20 hrs per school year in many different capacities. Teachers will provide tutoring during the school year and the summer for students who are struggling. Both my husband and I are teachers with a combined 20+ years of experience and we know our children are receiving an exceptional education at CCA. If you are looking for a private school setting with a public school price tag CCA is it.
