We absolutely love this school! The engagement of staff, students and community is amazing. I love how diverse the school is and like any other school you will find reviews that suggest issues, but these are common amongst all schools. Vista Peak and their staff truly try to help and keep a positive environment. I am excited from my student to continue to thrive here.

This school in horrible!!! My child has been and she got put on a phone plan for not having her phone out boys started with her and she got in trouble and the staffs are so disrespectful to kids the teachers barley teach anything the kids have to know there over working them and they just don’t care anymore I do not recommend this school please keep ur children safe this school Barley have any security to keep the kids safe and they hit my kid once for having a disability and have a different way of learning and they yelled at my child like hello!!! This school is just really dirty and disrespectful to kids I don’t recommend having ur kids come to this school.

Review:

This school’s administration will say one thing to your face and then do the complete opposite. When confronted, they will gaslight you and pretend they never made those promises—fortunately, I had them put it in writing! They pick and choose who to punish based not on fairness, but on whether or not the student’s parents dare to call out their failures.

This school is not a safe environment. When my son was beaten up, they made endless excuses instead of taking responsibility, claiming they were overworked and understaffed. That is not an acceptable justification for failing to protect students. Parents and students deserve better.

My child recently went through a traumatic event outside of school and her homeroom teacher immediately suggested a school counselor. The counselor has checked in on my child for three weeks in a row now. My family appreciates the support from the school. Thank you.

My daughter has been bullied a few times -- and they have written reports for each time. However, they never contact me about it. I always have to contact them stating what my child told me happened. Academically I think the school is great, but some of these kids are allowed to say whatever they want with no consequences it seems.

My kids are always excited to go to school, and they tell me how great their specials are. However, it seems like their expectations are much higher than the actual quality of teaching. It seems when I go over assignments with them, they have no idea how to do anything. They mention it was gone over maybe once. I am having to do A LOT of work at home with them to catch them up to where they need to be. However, the teaches are supportive in providing me resources.

They have great STEM, music, theatre, and art programs. I was very impressed when I went to academic night.

Overall my family has had a great experience with this school. The drop off and pickup is kind of a hot mess, but other than that we are happy with the school.

If you are involved in your kids education, they will succeed. The school gives the kids a ton of resources. However, if you sit back and expect the teachers to parent and be the only people educating the kids -- of course they won't do well. I agree, bullying has been an issue, but the school squashed it at the beginning for my child. A lot has changed at Vista Peak and I am proud of its progress.

My daughter had a rough start as a new student, however the school provided multiple opportunities to get involved and work with the school to help my daughter iron out the issues. She has been THRIVING at Vista Peak. Their communication is great, and they provide so may opportunities for my daughter to try new things and learn new skills. I was told coming in Vista Peak was not a great school, but I have no idea what anyone is talking about. I am excited for kids future!

this school is not good. the princiapal is mean and the teachers dont teach, there is a lot of bullying. kids are super disrespectful. and the learning does not meet my requirements.

No bus service within the neighborhood if you live within a mile. Passing time between classes 3 min. Teachers do not teach or make sure kids understand work they just fly through lessons. No lockers so your child will carry a backpack all day. Theft. Choose a different school and neighborhood to live in if you can

Vista Peak EXPLORATORY, If I could put ZERO stars I would… coach Washington is a DISGRACE of a coach. Always has his favorite players while other girls sit on the side line crying because they want to play. His favorite players have red marks on their arms by how much they hit the ball. When talking to the school principal she expressed NO concern at all.. These “Adults” don’t realize the damage they are doing to these girls, making them think they are not good enough to play. This is unacceptable, there needs to be a change on this matter. When I asked my daughter why didn’t her coach put her in she said “it’s my fault”. So kids are blaming their self’s for not being good enough. Awesome stuff coach.

Good school. I've been sending my now 4th grader since 1st grade. My younger son started in prek, which left some things to be desired, but I think that was a singular teacher incident (and I believe she isn't there anymore). His kinder year was cut short due to COVID, but they did the best they could with the circumstances.
Overall, the teachers are invested, working with your students to help them excel. They're cognizant of bullying, and will help mitigate any situations that warrants it (from my experience). It's a clean school, drop off and pick up are well orchestrated, communication is there (for the most part).

Terrible school. The teachers mostly young and fresh out of college. They have no idea how to deal with kids. The teacher to student ratio listed above is way off. My daughter's 4th and 5th grade classes have more like 30 kids in them. I sat in on a class once and there are so many kids the teacher is busy the whole class trying to control them, it was complete chaos, no wonder my kid can't seem to follow what's happening in class. I went to parent/teacher conferences and my daughter had to conduct the conference while one of her two teachers laid her upper body across the desk half asleep. My daughter gets bullied by the girls and sexually harassed by the boys, and it continues all year. Honestly the world would be a better place without this school.

My experience has been amazing. Seeing the school increase performance year over year was so exciting. Also seeing my daughter grow academically and socially has been wonderful. The faculty and staff is are very engaging and very involved in my daughter's overall well being. This campus has surpassed my expectations and I look forward to the successes we will see this school year with our new leader, Mrs. Kolquist.

Overall, our boys have had some great teachers. The bullying tolerance is not what it should be. My oldest was physically injured to the point of a cast in 1st grade and the student didn't have any disciplinary action. Otherwise, we've been happy thus far. The communication is good and most of the staff genuinely cares.

They STILL don’t handle bullying well. My daughter was bullied on a weekly basis by the same girl. The school made excuses for the bully while it just kept continuing. They also always say “we’ll handle the bully but we can’t tell you what we are doing.” I’m not asking for PHI or anything personal, just that you’re actually disciplining the student properly.

My kid sits by herself and colors all day because it takes her 2 minutes to do her assignments, and her teachers do not provide any additional mental stimulation. They have plenty of projects for the purpose of bringing struggling children up to par, but the smart kids fall though the cracks.

This school is failing my child. I have a child who is advanced is all of her subjects and gets bored when she is not mentally stimulated or challenged. She is in Pre-k and reads on a second grade level, and is already capable of adding and subtracting. Her teachers weren't even aware of her skill set because they just don't bother going beyond counting to 20 and knowing the alphabet. Her teacher was shocked when I pointed this out at a parent teacher conference. I have been told on many occasions that they can do nothing for her and we should just continue working on her level with her at home. While she is at school, she sits by herself coloring all day. We will not be attending Vista Peak at all next year.

I receive communications on a very consistent basis that let me know what is going on at the school and attempts to involve community members in the school. I know that the teachers have regular meetings to address issues at the school and I am very pleased at the level of collaboration that takes place between them to address issues collectively. I have not attended any meetings outside of the "Back to school" meeting so I cannot address this topic any further.

I take a very active role in helping my children and doing my best to understand what they are learning. I have helped my kids with their homework and would like to see a bit more home work, not just math but maybe some history projects, or something that involves a bit of research and addresses critical thinking skills.

My son is in pre-school and his teachers have been nothing short of excellent. They seem to really understand how to build a rapport with the children and address their learning needs on an individual basis. My daughter is in 6th grade and this is her first year at Vista Peak. Her teachers have done a great job communicating with me and making themselves available when I want to communicate with them. I am pleased that the current administration seems to constantly seek out opportunities to involve the community in school events. I think that with more community buy in, this could be a really great school. I believe in having knowledgeable and skilled educators- and I think that that there are some very good educators at Vista Peak, but I also understand that my job as a parent is to ensure that my children are doing their part because the teachers can't do it alone.

The administration seemed unconcerned with the fact that my son was hit with a boulder on the back of his head by another student. He had a one inch gash on the back of his head he could have been severely injured or killed. The only thing that was said is, we'll handle it but we can't tell you how!!! Nothing was ever done or said other than my son being made to make friends with the kid who hit him. Not the type of kid I want my son to be friends with especially since it wasn't his first time hitting another student, And from the reviews I see here they don't care to address bullying!

The leadership and staff are incedibly dedicated to improving student achievement. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Adults and students are supported and held accountable which is creating a better school culture. There is a sense of purpose and focus on school improvement. I am fortunate to be a part of this school.

I have two children that attend this school. One of them has an IEP. My child gets the extra help that is needed. The team that helps my child is excellent. They have recommended other activities that I can do at home to help. The teachers and staff are caring and talented. My child also has Music, Art, PE, Yoga, and Technology.

I have three children who attend Vista Peak. All of them have had great experiences with their teachers at the school. The teachers are dedicated to the kids and their success. They have great classes that add to their learning that include yoga, art, gym, technology and spanish. At a time when many schools are cutting these programs I can say mine is dedicated to keeping them. There was a change this year with the principal and I have seen changes in the way the school is managed and continue to see improvements on the way discipline is handled. My kids and I love Vista Peak and are proud to call it our school.

My son starting in 3rd grade has been bullied and physically assaulted by another student the school has pretty much done nothing to stop this from happening. He is now in 5th grade and has been placed in the same classes as this other child and has been sat next to him. I found out he was in class sat next to the child who assaults him when I contacted one of the deans about it he assured me he would look into it then later assured me they had separated them only I find now they were never separated. When this other child stabbed my son repeatedly in the back with a pencil my son tried to tell his teacher only to be told she didn't want to be bothered with him any longer. Also my son has developmental dyslexia but the school conveniently lost the paper work for his diagnosis. This is a horrible school with horrible staff. I am now pulling all three of my kids out of this school. Zero tolerance for bullying? Try zero tolerance for being a victim.

As a former 8th grader attending Vista Peak for now three years, I believe that this school has been a huge disadantage to my education. Here's why: There aren't any lockers for the middle school students, so many of them avoid bringing their nesscary materials for school or struggle with carrying large books home in their already full backpacks. Another thing is the fact that some teachers aren't really dedicated to thier job. There are some who really seem worn out and hate what they do. My grades have decreased since attending this school, and has lead to this being my last year attending Vista Peak Exploratory. Some teachers won't bother to explain how things are done in a better step by step process because we are currently falling behind in curriculum from the lack of disipline of the students in place. Though they have made efforts to change it, not all teachers follow the guidlines. They shouldn't just get a pass on their mistakes. This is only half of the things that need to change. I must say, Vista does have a lot of disadvantages, but they have advantages too. But overall I would reccomend not to sending your child to Vista Peak Exploratory.

We pulld our son from Douglas County Schools (Castle Rock) and moved so he could go to Vista Peak. We Love his teachers and more important he loves them. Great school, great educators. The First day our boy came home he had the biggest smile and you could just feel and see his excitement.

Incredible school! We moved from a wealthy area in Littleton 2 years ago. The schools in that area all had a student to teacher ratio of 1 to 30+ students Vista Peak Prep and Exploratory have blown my expectations out of the water!!! My children are being lead with strong moral standards from the Faculty. The drop-out rate is lower then most of the wealthiest areas in the state.. My 2 little ones are very happy at the Exploratory. I spoke with the Principal and was informed another Elementary School is opening up near the Aurora Community Center. This will cut the class sizes dramatically. I'm also aware of another elementary school opening up off Little River St and 1st. in 2-3 years. This new area is growing fast! growing pains are expected. My 3 year old will be in great hands when she takes her first steps in to school. : ) My Senior was more prepared for the world then I could have ever imagined!! He received a full ride academic scholarship to a prestigious University, while being a full time athlete in Highschool. College credits earned were a big plus! The staff truly allow the children to grow and learn in a positive environment. 5 stars!!!

my children have attended Vista peak since it opened. the first year was awesome since then they took the computers they opened with and now the tech access is limited. Bullying is a major issue and as far as getting any needed communication about quarter standards you have to hound them to get it. Do not expect your child to score an A especially in the first qtr because as I was told "we're not teaching that so he could not have gotten that grade anyway." I have had one child fill out witness statements only to have the school release their statement in expulsion proceedings of another student. who then harassed my child. My children have been told they only get 2 bathroom breaks a qtr and my 7th grader's class was recently told that they no longer get bathroom breaks. When I question the dean about a bullying incident she told them they should have told an adult, and did nothing about the student who assaulted them. The campus is run like a prison. I am definitely moving out of the area as soon as my house sells.

This will be my daughter first year this upcoming school year and yes I have read and heard about the negative part associated to this school. How ever I have choosen to build my own opinion of the school and it's not starting off so good. First the administration office, the paper work that I was given, and the school web site states that registration will begin on July 22. How ever when get to the school the lady in the front turns me and another parent away and stated to come back on Friday, and handed me a packet to fill out and bring back with me . When I stated that the registration office told me to come on this date she stated that she wished they would stop telling people that. I was just confused the information that is being given to parents all match date wise and hers don't. Strike One!

It really breaks my heart to read some of these comments. I am a teacher in another district, but my kids go to Vista PEAK. Their teachers are some of the best I have ever worked alongside with. Have you been to the school? Thousands of kids. Do you know how hard that is? Please don't blame the leaders/teachers/staff. As someone who can empathize, they are working so hard to help our kids. My youngest has made so much growth and my oldest is challenged in so many ways. I really don't understand some of these mean comments... it's sad.. can't we work together. It is a new school. You can only do so much at once to make it better. My kids have talked to me about so many bullying groups and lessons. I do think there should be more supervision... but isn't that a district decision..to hire more staff. If you read this and have positive things to say or constructive feedback... please post it~! I know my kid's teachers would appreciate it!

Please, please keep your children safe physically, emotionally, and socially and Do Not let them go to this school. Especially if your child has any special needs."

The teachers and staff at Vista PEAK truly care about these kids and are doing everything they can to advocate for children and what's best for them, while accelerating learning for all. My kids love their teachers and I can tell their teachers adore them.

My son has been in this school for two years and I don't think it could get much better. His knowledge is above grade level, so he has an individual learning plan. Both years the teachers kept him engaged, excited to learn and he has met and exceeded goals. I say this to show that individual abilities are taken into consideration and plans have follow through. I agree with another reviewer that every new school has growing pains, and no school is perfect, but the administration will listen to you if approached with civility. And they absolutely work with the pta, as I have seen change brought about through this channel even in the short time we have attended. I give VP two thumbs up.

All of the administrators should be fired. They do nothing to handle the ongoing student behavior problems or parent complaints. They don't return phone calls or emails and when you show up in person because they don't get back to you, they tell the secretary they have no time to meet with you; yet, there are 4 of them! There are several good teachers that have left only to be replaced with terrible ones that follow their administrators' lead and don't return phone calls or emails either. They also have a para that walks around like she runs the school and gets on to kids for doing stuff that she allows her daughter to get away with. Most of the kids can't stand her, so I don't know why they allow her to run so much. The facility is beautiful and there are several great staff members, but you lead by example and the example being set is not a good one.

Do not send your kids here..... Huge disappointment- rude staff- and kids needs are not being met. I heard bad things about this school from the get go and the leadership is awful... If you are thinking about moving to the area DONT - your kids will be stuck in a school where most families open enroll elsewhere because it is just a huge disappointment. I cant believe this school hasnt been revamped with new administraion since I beleive is where the problems lie. Dont let the nice facility fool you-

This school is a huge disappointment! Every time I turn around they have no school. They have been out for Christmas break since the 19th of December. It is now the 6th of Jan, and as other school across the state and country resume classes, some of them having returned last week after the New Year, ours continues to be closed. Were the parents properly notified? Obviously not, because I took my child to school and was called 15 minutes later to pick her up. In addition, many other parents were bringing their kids and I even saw a child walking in the zero degree temps because he did not know either. Parent/teacher conferences are a joke too! I spent 20 mins going upstairs and back down trying to figure out where I should be. Funny thing is that I checked in at the office when I arrived and I asked questions, but still got the run around. And when I express my concern to the head administrator about the lack of clarity and communication, he gives the "could care less" look and does not even verbally respond. To top it off, this school is brand new and already at capacity. They have modular units out back for classrooms and the district is talking about sending more inner city kids.

After reading comments, I thought I needed to give my opinion. I am not part of the staff, but I am a very involved parent with a very busy outside schedule. My daughter is in the 8th grade at VP, and started when the school first opened (moving from Murphy Creek school). As a new school it is still going through growing pains, but I have noticed that the administration and teaching staff are listening and advocating for programming to include smaller class sizes (much smaller this year with some of the classes having less than 20 students; my daughter loves it), inclusion of 21st education opportunities and the development of a growth mindset for the students. The school can't raise and teach your children, please join the small % of involved parents, reinforce learning at home, contact/visit classrooms, use infinite campus (see office for password) so that you will have real time data to help assess your child's progress. We have never had any problems, our daughter has grown as a leader, achieves academic greatness because of collaborating efforts (staff+parents). You want your child(ren) to succeed, get involved. My daughter has attended vista peak exploratory since it opened. I am quite surprised by the negative reviews because when I attend functions and meetings there is very little parental involvement. I work 12 hours days and find time to be present, and ensure my child's behavior and mindset are ready for school. I see so many children who are lost because they have no apparent support at home to get them ready for school. It is not the school or teachers job to raise our children. Overall I am happy with vista peak. They still have a lot of growing to do, but instead of complaining more parents should get involved. Hope to see you at the PTSA meetings, parent teacher conferences, band concerts, field day events, sporting events, volunteering in the classrooms, using infinite campus, and other tools to ensure the future of our students,

Vista Peak P-8 is a great school! We moved to Aurora just as the school was opening. The teachers are enthusiastic, intelligent and engaged. Not all children learn the same way and they are eager to motivate, challenge and encourage their students. Our three children have formed close bonds with their teachers and also made good friends. The administrators have an open ear for complaints, suggestions and discussion. The front office has always been friendly and helpful. Yes, it s a new school and still has room for growth and improvement, but it deserves better rating. Our children have flourished at Vista Peak Exploratory and Prep. and we look forward to their future here.

This is our son's 3rd year of attending Vista PEAK (VP) & is doing exceptionally well. He started in the Pre-K when they first opened & our family has been actively involved in a variety of school activities. As of this review, we have only encountered one teacher that we did not care for, but otherwise the teachers & staff have been wonderful. VP does strongly encourage parental involvement & it shows in the number of active parents within the school. I would like to mention that as a working parent (Accountant) & parent volunteer, I have seen a strong link between the emotional & educational success of the children whose parents take an active role in their child s education & those who expect the school to be 100% responsible for their child s success. In my opinion, VP is like most schools, in that you get out of it what you put into it, if you believe in working with your child & paying attention to their homework & assignments in conjunction with & staying in contact with the teacher (I email monthly) your child will excel at VP. We have an older child & have experienced several schools over the years & so far, VP has by far exceeded even our highest expectations.

I'd heard bad things about this school before we moved, but I wanted to give it a try. My daughter (5th gr) spent 3 days at VP and was miserable. She cried everyday not wanting to go. VP has no new student orientation, so she was nervous the first day, not knowing where her classroom was /who her teachers were. When she got off the bus, the teacher that was supposed to be there to take students to the classroom had left already, so she had to find her own way to class. Overall, it was difficult to learn due to disruptive students. The building is nice & most teachers are great, but the class sizes are 30+ and many of the students are disrespectful to the teachers. The students cuss in the hallway and some bully other students verbally and physically. When I went to withdraw my daughter, there was just a short form to fill out...no one inquired why I was withdrawing her. The administrators heard my concerns through a military school liaison and asked if they could contact me, to which I said "yes", but they have not contacted me. I have seen other reviews that quiet, well behaved students fall through the cracks at VP and other APS schools, and I have to agree. What a shame!

I am concerned that the positive comments here have actually been made by individuals working in the school. It's very difficult to give strong parental involvement when communication between administrators is so poor. Nine times out of ten, when an administrator is contacted via email and/or phone they do not even bother to answer your call or email. It is very insulting to me as a parent that one would try to blame all of this school's issues on a lack of parental involvement. Some parents work during the day and can not "always" get away during school hours. It seems to me that when these working parents do try to make arrangements to handle concerns, questions, etc. a few minutes after school the staff acts as though you are trying to have them give you their first born! Sorry, but I thought the staff was supposed to be there to accommodate the children and their families, not the other way around...

My kids attend this school and we are moving them next year. There are several problems with this school. Horrible administration- too many admins but no leadership, the rudest front office staff I have ever encountered, terrible schedule and over promises to families and under delivering to the kids. Foreign language got pulled, fees for each student required where they have no use of technology, and extremely poor communication. Students are out of control, staff hired are completely inexperienced and the leadership is too consumed with image and making excuses for thier lack of doing a good job. I would never send my kids to this school again and I am disappointed that this beautiful school has such a poor start. They really do not meet the needs of every student. It's BS

My daughter attends this school and while they are very early in their development, i have yet to see a school so dedicated to their students. Students have access to state of the art technologies and are earning certifications and college credit as early as 9th grade. In time i think all of those so ready to criticize a school in their first years will look impatient and foolish. If we measure success purely based on standardized test scores that are 30 years dated, we will never see innovative schools that children enjoy attending. I suggest you spent a day at the school before drawing any conclusions here. A ton of potential and the leaders in charge are dedicated and passionate about what they are building. The secretary of education Arne Duncan wouldn't have traveled all the way from washington DC this year if they weren't doing something right.

I was so disappointed with this school. I was a parent volunteer and was in the classroom once a week for the entire year so I was able to see first hand the overcrowded classrooms, the lack of respect that the students showed the teachers/staff and the lack of communication from the directors (principals) and staff to the parents. There appeared to be little control of the students and the quiet and shy kids seemed to fall between the cracks. In my opinion, the teachers are overwhelmed with so many students and are not able to connect with them in a way that you would see in other primary schools. I feel sad that I have to give this school that appeared to have so much potential a failing grade.

We have had a wonderful experice with Vista Peak. My daughter has really excelled in her class. She went from constantly getting in trouble, talk of ADD, and referrals to a child psychologist to a complete 180. She rarely gets in trouble now, her reading level is advanced and we have had even seen a change at home. I highly recommend this school.

(I currently have two daughters attending this school). My oldest daughter has attended this school for the past two years and came here from the Cherry Creek School District. I was concerned with switching her as far as the cirriculm is concerned. I am more than satisfied with the teachers, cirriculm, and communication. My daughter was reading below grade level when the school year started, she is now reading ABOVE her grade level thanks to help from her teacher and her father and I at home. Both teachers stays in constant contact with me regarding their progress, and feedback and homework is also sent home every friday.

I wish I could give this school a zero. I complained mid-year that my kids had no homework, were getting no schoolwork sent home for me to see and the teachers didn't communicate with us at all. There were no friday folders or notes or test scores or anything coming home. Nothing changed. My kids started to dislike school and were becoming unhappy kids. They told stories of teachers yelling a lot and kids out of control. One teacher told me she wouldnt put her kid in this school. I moved my family across town out of Aurora and now they are miserably far behind in school. I am devastated as a mother that I couldnt keep this from happening. Please if you love your children do not send them to this atrocious school. I would keep them out of Aurora all together because all the Aurora schools have terrible test scores and horrible behavior problems.

I have loved this school, but you can definitely see a big change in the environment and tone of the school, not to mention the kids attitudes and behavior, since they've gotten rid of the dress code! I am very disappointed with some of the new and upcoming changes.
