Actualmente mi hija lleva plan 504 y ni si quiera preguntan si ella necesita algo, o si ella llega tarde a una clase por alguna razón y aún nadie de la escuela me a preguntado nada de sus problemas en el plan 504, no estoy segura que esta escuela sea buena para un adolescente con necesidades especiales. Tampoco les interesa que materias ellos agarran y no los instruyen en su confusión de materias y en lo que ellos quieren para el futuro. Estoy pensando solo dejarla un año aquí y cambiarla a otra escuela con más instrucción a los alumnos.

We moved here at start of 9th grade for my student. They are graduating this year, May 2022, with a diploma and community college degree. Everything has been good. It is an ethnically diverse school with a lot of different opportunities including technical school, stem, project-lead-the-way-classes. Students should take advantage of to what the school has.

Im senior at this school and im supposed to graduate in 2019, but after finding out from my counselor that i needed extra credit to graduate for 2019 i immediatly started to her to sign me up(this was done in 2017 school year) the problem came with the front desk staff member in the counselor office, for some reason she didn't want to help me with setting an appointment with my counselor. 2017 turn into 2018 and know im switching to an online school, because the lady wouldn't let me see my counselor, i had to sneak in just to talk to her and know i had my mom show up to the school to talk to my counselor. The lady in the front desk still had attuide towards me and my mom was trying to help with me getting transcripts so i can switch to the online school. She ended up telling us that we neee to wait about a week or 2 to get our transcripts maild to us when she had on file.

I'm trying to be the first one in my family to graduate highschool and i feel like i was not respected as student of this school. I still wanna go to vista peak but staff lady has made my two school years so difficult and disappointing..

Some of the teachers make the difference and some students but i know that what comes from all the schools that are public.

Some the staff really didn't really reflect compassion and tye well being of students. My character got developed by the few good teachers and students.

Vista Peak is a good school. It has very good teachers as a general rule but does have some significant issues. The school is trying to be much too politically correct. The leadership is a bit weak and more concerned with being popular than leading. It punishes good students and allows poor/disruptive students to run the show. These issues have been exacerbated by the extreme budget cuts from APS and the significant increase in the number of students.

The teachers are passionate and generally well informed in their subject areas. Most of the teachers I have encountered have challenged their students and have worked hard to keep everyone involved. All of the teachers I have met at Vista Peak have gone out of their way to help the students. The teaching staff is the heart of Vista Peak.

The teachers are trying to develop good qualities in the students. Vista Peak has several good programs in place (such as peer mentoring and conflict resolution) that are good examples for students (and adults) to follow. However, the administration seems to care more about being popular with the bad students than trying to bring them understanding. This behavior from the administration (and some of the counselors) reinforces negative character traits. When the administration and some of the counselors lack integrity it is reflected in the behaviors of some of the students. Unfortunately, it is negative characters/students that the administration seems to care more about than the students actually have integrity, compassion, and respect.

The Vista Peak administration caters to disruptive students and, in fact, appears to be afraid of them. Students are allowed to act out in class while other students are trying to learn. The administration has admonished the teachers instead of the disruptive students when the teachers have tried to impose simple discipline. In short, the bad students are being taught that they can behave as they wish while the good students are being punished and provided with a negative learning environment. Additionally, the leadership at Vista Peak and some of the counselors have provided intentionally false information to parents and students. Even when confronted by the Aurora Public Schools district office the leadership refused to acknowledge "mistakes". This has required parents stepping in to get the correct information sent out and providing basic services for students. And note: the school leadership tried to take credit for the work done by the parents.

I am neutral on this as I think they provide good programs for students who are struggling or at risk but have really let down those students who work hard and are achieving. Advanced students are treated poorly at Vista Peak by the counselors and the administration. The bright spot is the teaching staff is mostly excellent.

Again the school has some great student run programs. This is diminished somewhat by the administration being afraid of its students. It is hard to present a non-bullying atmosphere when the administration allows disruptive students to bully the teachers without recourse or punishment.

The counseling staff and most of the teachers are very passionate about helping students succeed, and this is were the GRIT does come in because they challenge the students that want to learn to go beyond their assumed capacities. From the athletic side, they are improving and I think as they get the right coaching staff with the best interest of all participates in mind they will continue to improve on their gains. The way a coach responds to and treats their players whether they realize it or not, impacts students going forward (either good or bad), and as mentors if they are experiencing any issues with players sooner rather than later they need to address the issue and not reiterate against the student. How are the students going to learn how to effectively manage conflict, if their mentors don't set the example. Students look up to these individuals, and both teachers and coaches should never, never leave any doubt in a student's mind that they wronged them. It's not good for a student nor their peers. This is something in my opinion that needs constantly discussed with staff.

As I mentioned earlier the teachers cannot do it all by themselves. It is not their jobs to be the parent educator, they are their to teach blocks of information and develop core life experiences and reasoning skills. Parents have to get more involved like it use to be in their child's education. As the majority of students if they have homework they will say "no" challenge that, and have them to show what they learned.

As a parent that has been very involved with my child's experience since Vista Peak opened its' doors I believe that the administration has had the best interest of the students as its primary mission. I do believe that needed changes in leadership have occurred, and that other changes are needed. I do feel like policy as I enforced confuses students sometimes and despite the reason for the policy, the best interest of the students may not be at the forefront; for example dress code. Either there is one that promotes the best interest of all students or not. I say this because we are in an era of increasing sexual related assaults/harassing behaviors however students are given free will to come, as they want. Daily when I drop my child off, there are students who are under dressed. It is my opinion that if we are trying to help them to become professionals then we should be enforcing dress codes that promote their success in the future. When they go into the workforce there will be dress codes, and depending on the college there will also be dress codes. Hormones are going wild during their high school years, so my question is why are some of the things that students are allowed to wear into the school allowed today. I know some will say well they can't afford this or that, but look at the cell phones and the shoes and in some cases the cars and that argument goes out the window. The counseling staff and most of the teachers are very passionate about helping students succeed, and this is were the GRIT does come in because they challenge the students that want to learn to go beyond their assumed capacities.

My daughter is a freshman this year taking all Honors or PreAp classes. The challenge has been great for her and her teachers have been wonderful with supporting her to challenge herself. The entire staff at the Prep are always warm and welcoming. You can truly see that they care about each and every student! I feel blessed to be a part of this community.

Great school with some new learning methods that is really helping to expand the way that our children are taught

Vista PEAK Preparatory is a school with many caring and committed teachers. I have worked in a lot of schools and school districts and I have never worked with a more hard working group. Our standards are very high. There is some confusion on one of the reviews on this site regarding standards referenced grading which we are happy to address and explain in detail. This is our fourth year at the high school and we will soon have our first graduating class with one of the highest graduation rates in the state. We are a smaller school with a projection of 998 students in the fall of 2015 and we work really hard to get to know every single students to meet their needs.

it is very hard to get class changes and as the student said there is little freedom. my students can not come home for lunch though they live in walking distance. the dress code is restrictive. if you have kids with special needs or requirements be sure to bring in your paperwork or Dr. note because explaining it to them is not enough. I have 3 kids at Vista Peak and have been here from the beginning. The test scores are rather low so the grading standards are lowered this year. 75% as my 11th grader explained is now an A.

I'm a student at Vista Peak, and it is overall a great school. It has way more pros than cons. My only complaint is how the staff deals with drama. It seems as if they have the disciplinary system reversed. For example, you'll get in a lot more trouble for fighting than drugs. They also don't give the students much freedom. We don't get typical high school activities, like homecoming and pep rally's.They also have a ridiculous dress code. Besides that, the teachers are very committed and motivated to help you. They're not just in it for the paycheck. We also have chances to earn our associates degree before we graduate and take college classes. Vista Peak is a school you'll definitely succeed in, just don't go there if you want a 'typical" high school experience.

I am familiar with schools all over the greater Denver area and I have been thrilled with Vista PEAK Prep. My son started high school this year and he was nervous to begin at a new school, as we are new to Aurora. The teachers have tons of knowledge, energy and passion and my son is already excelling and even more importantly, loving the experience he is having. My husband and I feel incredibly fortunate to have our child be a part of this wonderful school.

Awesome school, awesome teachers and a very strong interest in our children and their education! What can be better than giving your child a head start to their higher level of education!
