This is the most dysfunctional school "system" I have ever encountered, and that is quite the statement coming from yours truly. I have taught all grades 7-12 across 4 different states. I have seen just about every kind of school that exists in the US: public (both wealthy and Title 1), charter, private, etc. I can confidently say that RMP is the most disingenuous, poorly run school system I have ever observed or worked for. Please stop calling yourself a "movement" instead of a school system.

It is an incredibly corporate environment full of and run by people that know little to nothing about what actual good pedagogy looks like. Everything is scripted, all the curriculum is pre-bought and boring/ineffective. Everyone is expected to work ridiculously demanding schedules. I literally did not even have a LUNCH BREAK. Zero time to eat lunch until 2:20pm after working/being on my feet 6 hours straight. Talk about abusing your teachers and treating them like robots. Then there are the behaviors, WOW. Just WOW. The kids are generally out of control, overwhelmingly disrespectful, and regularly curse and get into altercations. Instead of addressing the behaviors in a meaningful way, admin is too busy micromanaging every single second of your day. Unqualified, overpaid AP's routinely come into your classroom for useless 4-minute long observations that don't capture anything meaningful; worse yet, these little visits actively disrupt class in an already dysfunctional environment. A proper observation is usually the entire class period length and only done a couple of times per calendar year. The "live coaching" is incredibly disruptive and heavily undermines the teacher. Not to mention the teachers routinely being treated and spoken to the same as the students. They are not trusted and infantilized to an insulting degree. It is disconcerting that so much money and funding is going to places like these and it is as clear as ever why there is an educational crisis in the United States of Privilege. Unless you live in a very wealthy neighborhood (public schools are funded by property taxes), or you have the resources to send your child to private school, you're left with broken options like Rocky Mountain Prep.

I think there needs to be more leadership opportunities for students to take part in but I’m impressed with the leadership when it comes to standing up to bullies between students

We’re heading back for our second year and the experience has been pleasant with the office staff. I would’ve liked more of an opportunity to interact with the teachers but we’ll see how we do this year. Overall I’d rate this school a 7

This school really helps to prepare kids for college with a rigorous academic program, but it is lacking in the arts, clubs and extra-curricular activities. They also don't do many field trips or activities outside of sitting in the classroom which is disappointing. There are no lockers, passing periods, yearbooks, school newspaper, dances, school events, or opportunities to socialize outside of class, but there is lots of testing and homework including weekends. As one of the best schools in Denver Public Schools including DSST GVR, this is the trade off. I am hoping they find some balance as the school grows and becomes established.
