My daughter is in third grade and has been at Dora Moore since Kindergarten. She has loved it every single year. Her teachers have been warm and engaging and incredibly competent. The principal, Mr. Janson, is about the best principal you can imagine. He knows everyone's name, kids and parents alike, and he supports the staff and students with everything they need. The school community is probably the best part of the school though. The school puts on awesome events, the kids all get along, and the parents are really supportive of each other.

Dora Moore Elementary is an incredible neighborhood elementary school. I have been extremely happy with the staff and relationships that we have built within the school and PTA. I highly recommend this school if you live in the Downtown area or surrounding neighborhoods. The education and experience we have had is completely different than some of the older negative reviews on this platform. This page is outdates as well. Dora Moore is ECE-5th grade.

My two kids have both had an incredible experience at Dora Moore. They love the arts integration across academics and specials and I love how much their creativity and self-expression is supported. They've both fallen in love with math and their math and literacy skills have exploded during their time there. The community is highly engaged and incredibly supportive. As a parent I've found it easy to get involved in meaningful ways; for my kids I've been impressed by how connected they are to staff across the building. The leadership team is *amazing* - responsive, engaged, and committed to supporting every student and family. It's a great community and a great school.

This school is trash especially if you have blacks kids they dont care if your kid is getting bullied if you ask to talk to someone they lie and said the principal is in a meeting they dodged me for so long but if it was a white kid the problem would get handled they dont about BLACK KIDS AT ALL !!

My childs preschool experience with Ms. Levison has far exceeded our expectations! She has made friends with students from all over the city and with children who speak multiple languages. As a parent, the communication is excellent and we love the focus on the city as a vessel for learning through all the amazing field trips. Staff is genuine and caring and all children are known and loved.

We came to Dora Moore for ECE and we could not be happier. The school holds incredibly rigorous academic expectations without ever sacrificing a joyful community and classroom culture. The teachers are skilled, warm, and supportive of all students. My child loves going to school here and we love being part of the community. We have seen him thrive and grow in so many ways. I highly recommend this school.

We transferred to this school two years ago after my third son finished at Bromwell. Dora Moore is our neighborhood school and the new principal came from Teller, which several trusted friends said was managed excellently. I am constantly amazed at the resources that this administration finds to support equity among students. It is lovely to have my kids interact with kids of varying demographics and to have authentic teachers who care about the material they are bringing into the classroom.

My husband and I have volunteered, bringing our professional and vocational knowledge to students as our schedules allow. My husband explained how the brain works to my daughters first grade class. I was amazed at the other content my daughter shared that she learned from other systems in the body. I have volunteered some basic music understanding and I plan to do more. It is so fun to be greeted by my childrens peers because they had a memorable and fun percussion session!

I was concerned when my daughter came home and said she was bored in math. After talking with her teacher, I found out that her teacher had given her more challenging tasks and then had her explain the simpler tasks to her peers. The gifted and talented coordinator was responsive and helpful. If your student excels, teachers can and will accommodate. I suggest taking a tour. Its a beautiful building and rich with history of famous people who have walked in its hallways. What better way to experience history?! Come and bring your talents and children to share in our community!

Both of our kids have attended Dora Moore and our youngest has been at the school since kindergarten. They are both happy to go to school, have formed strong friendships, and we couldnt be more pleased with the school! The teachers and staff are incredible and it is the MOST diverse and representative school in Denver, which is a huge priority for us. I actually dont care for Great Schools and similar websites because I believe they prioritize and glorify factors that are mostly tied to income level alone and dont give an accurate picture of how amazing a school really is on the inside. I highly recommend checking out this school especially if you live in the Capitol Hill area. Our kids are constantly going on field trips, many of which are within walking distance from the school since it is located near a ton of amenities like the Botanic Gardens, art museums, the Capitol Building, the central library, and historical sites.

I am very satisfied with Dora Moore. Both my children currently attend Dora Moore. My daughter is in 3rd grade and my son is in ECE 3. I've loved every teacher my daughter has had. And my sons teacher is incredible. The school has a social emotional program they implemented school wide last year that the teachers take very seriously and include daily in their curriculum. The principal is extremely community oriented and has community wide events a few times a year. Academically my daughter is doing very well and getting all the support she needs to be successful.

This is a welcoming school with passionate and welcoming teachers and an engaged student body. I have heard it is the most equally diverse / balanced diversity in all of Denver. There are kids with every home environment you can imagine - from transitional to stable and robust and the staff supports all kids in their growth. Statistics hide the value of this community school in the heart of Denver. The school is basically two-in-one with the ece-5 on one area and the 6-8 in a separate portion. As a parent we are pleased to have chosen Dora Moore.

My son went here for only a short period of time, but the time he did go was not a good experience for him. The teachers need more supervision. There is a no incentive or positive motivation to be successful. The special education department is seriously lacking. They need to hire more staff in the special education department for the influx of special education students. They also need to have a security guard and more control on campus. Overall it's just another D12 school that needs serious improvement and is not handling the rise in population very well.

I am a former student of this school and am now a freshman. I can say that I don't recommend this school at all if you're kid is old enough to be in 7-8th grade. I reported to the principal almost daily. He spoke to the student bullying me it did not stop. It got worse and more frequent. I experienced verbal harassment daily. The principal said he would do something about it again, but he never did. I spoke up to him about it; there was still no change. I was depressed because of this (but I'm fine now). Other than that, if your child is old enough to be in primary school, this school is okay for that age group. But I suggest you move them to a 6-8th grade only school when the time comes for them to be in middle school.

The rating you give Dora Moore indicates a problem with your system. Dora Moore has an incredibly high level of homeless students/free-disc lunch. Attendance is a serious issue due to this. But our daughter who is autistic has been met with love and acceptance. The DPS district resources are slim due to very low taxes if there is any issue

Dora Moore is truly a community. The neighborhood surrounding Dora Moore lends itself to real life learning that is so unique. The beautiful architecture makes for such an inviting and exciting experience and the history is extremely impressive. The teachers there truly care about the students and their success and are constantly shifting and changing to meet the needs of students. Class sizes are incredible and DM truly encompasses the DPS Values!

This is my second year teaching at Dora Moore. I moved from out of state and have found a place to work that truly feels like home. The population of students and families truly is diverse, both culturally and economically. I am proud to teach children of all backgrounds. There are many familiar faces as you walk through the halls and it is easy to connect with families, even if you do not teach their student. I have found great mentorship, professional development with the latest curriculum, and ongoing support with the staff at this school to really make my teaching the best it can be.

My child has attended Dora Moore for 6 years and our experience has been very positive. The school's teachers are very strong and provide rigorous instruction. The school had a change in administration 2 years ago and since that time the new administrators have been consistently building a supportive environment that addresses the needs of the whole child. A growing number of parents are strongly committed to the school and both neighborhood families and choice-in families are passionate about the school community. The diverse student population is valued and supported and the faculty makes great efforts to provide an inclusive environment. In addition to the strong academic instruction, students are provided with a rotating schedule of "essentials" which include gym, art, music, and technology, and the school provides a variety of free, teacher-led after-school programs. My child feels at home at Dora Moore and I am impressed with the level of support she has received in developing leadership skills.

It is a great school - primarily bc of the teachers. My kids have been here for 7 years - and the teachers and staff continue to amaze us. My kids have gotten the attention they need at all levels - and it's above grade level. There is a Principal change this year and changes have started - in regards to process, services and teachers - and we hope that it is for the better to serve all the kids. The ones performing at all levels. This school as a 77% low income population - with TONS of smart kids. The diversity is 30% black, 30% Hispanic, 30% white - and 10% other (Asian, American Indian, 2 or more races) - so the mix is FABULOUS! The combination of teachers, attention to ability level, and diversity - I would pick this school for my kids for elementary - over most schools in our state.

Not only does this school have a significant place in Colorado history, but the staff I have encountered have been absolutely amazing. I have a special needs child on the Autism Spectrum (high functioning) and even though we do not yet have an IEP established, faculty is going out of their way to make sure she is thriving and learning. The first day we started (we transferred in from another district), we met with not just her teacher, but all the first grade teachers, all the special education staff AND the principal. They have gone way out of their way to make sure my children have a positive learning experience, which is more than I can say for the Jeffco Schools we have experience with. I am also thoroughly impressed with the school nutrition program here. Not only is breakfast free of charge to ALL students regardless of income, but lunch provides so many fresh ORGANIC produce selections and the menu is certainly an upgrade from what I was fed in DPS schools twenty-plus years ago as a kid. I am proud to have this school as our neighborhood learning institution!

My child is also in Kindergarten here and we have had nothing but great experiences. No hitting, bumping, biting or any etc. The teachers are great and work hard. We will be coming back next year. As far as safety it is up to you to make sure your kids are safe before school starts and there have been no problems that I have heard of in that regard. The only reason this school rates lower is because all of parents that live around it put their kids in private schools, if they saved their money and opted in to Dora the school would be as great as Bromwell.

My Kindergartener goes here and he is continually involved in some type of violent activity with other students. The school nurse has called me like three times to report him being bitten, bumped, hit, etc.. The school really has an amazing legacy, but failing grades in the CSAP and TCAP scores. I want to switch to Bromwell next year if possible.. or Teller.. Oh, and the place is not safe in the mornings, inadequate staff on the playground.
