My family has several generations who have attended North High School and now both my children are attending.
The staff and teachers are very involved in helping students to succeed in their classes by outreaching parents, giving tutoring times through the week and in school social emotional support. The staff make every effort to support every educational need for each student, including special education considerations.
There is opportunity for students to take college level courses, earn college credit and get an associate degree while in high school.
I am proud that both my children are attending North and I would encourage if you have questions attend an open house or just schedule a time to meet with principal or assistant principal for more information.

Lots of opportunities to engage with other families and staff. CSC, coffees with the principal, family events, art shows, theater performances, sporting events, etc. Wonderful and caring staff. Diverse class offerings including embedded honors classes to increase honors participation. AP and concurrent enrollment options. Something for everyone.

Our two sons had outstanding experiences at North High School. The school was the perfect size to find the clubs and activities that resonated with them. They were able to build supportive relationships through those activities, and they were able to challenge themselves with a wide variety of classes at levels that met their needs for each subject. They received excellent advisement and were well prepared for college. They had a 504 plan and an IEP and their support staff truly cared about them, their interests, and their futures. We loved the community at North and made lifelong friends as involved parents. Finally, the administration and staff worked hard to help all the kids through their toughest life experience, COVID-19. We will be forever grateful to North for preparing our boys for the world and giving us so many wonderful memories.

The North teachers, staff and admin are so dedicated to our students. They love them and they love the whole community and it shows. They are able to meet the needs of an enormous variety of students, from AP and college level instruction, remedial support, sports, theater, the arts, as well as showing an appreciation for the incredible cultural diversity that the student body brings. ItÂ’s a privilege to be part of such a vibrant community with long standing traditions.

We are so very grateful for North High School - and Skinner and Brown that feed it! Both of our kids attended these schools k-12. They had every opportunity they needed including both Special Education and Advanced Learning intervention. Arts (mostly theatre and music for our kids but we have heard the same about Visual) sports, AP, Concurrent Enrollment, Honors, Computer Science, STEM... North does it all and in an accessible way that allows newcomers and already skilled kids to thrive. Can't write about this school without talking about the staff. First off; there are SO many adults in the building! Our kids and we are never without a human to go to to answer our question. In addition to the stellar Counseling Staff, The College and Career Readiness Center is full of folks with an open door to help kids and families navigate the "what comes next?" question while still helping kids focus on taking full advantage of high school. AND our kids get to walk to school! We see North kids and families all over the neighborhood. It's a rare week when a neighbor doesn't tell me they saw one of my boys walking to or from school. Being a North Family gives us that close-knit, embraced small town feel right here in our big city. We are so Proud to be Vikings!

We moved to North because of peer issues at another school. We have not had issues at this school to know whether or not the administration deals with bullying 'effectively.'

I do feel as though North does not promote College Prep and concurrent enrollment nearly as well as our other high school did though. It has been quite disappointing.

There is no consistency between teachers. Some are very crass, and do not care about the students success at all.

There is a large Drug Problem at North. I feel like because North does not know how to handle the problem, they turn their heads to it.

Posted: September 14, 2018

The only reason I have kept my daughter at North is because of the administrative support in regards to this.

Posted: May 20, 2018

I have not had experience with this issue at North.

Posted: May 20, 2018

Principal Wolf is a wonderful leader and includes all students in his encouragement.

Posted: May 20, 2018

I have not had experience with this aspect of North.

Posted: May 20, 2018

Excellent. We have been happy with the courses offered, the teachers, the sports programs and the environment.

Posted: May 20, 2018

North's participation in the Chromebook program ensures every student is equipped with their own Chromebook. Most homework and many tests are completed on the Chromebook, eliminating the risk of lost assignments.

My son has been very challenged by his teachers and classes. He is on a very college prep pathway.

Posted: May 20, 2018

North requires students to be accountable for their decisions, good and bad. They have a wonderful staff that helps the kids work through any differences or disputes.

Posted: March 24, 2018

Homework is applicable to the topic in the classroom, is not busywork, and is sufficient to support learning without being onerous.

We love the teachers at North. We have seen their commitment to not just their own students but to others as well. They genuinely love and care for every student at North while holding them to the highest social, emotional, and educational standards. We love that the teachers at North push our daughter every day to be a better student and citizen while knowing and caring about what's going on in her life. Teachers at North who don't even have our daughter know her name and ask us about her. The care and professionalism of the staff is very impressive.

There's an adage that goes something like, "You can tell the character of a person by how they care for those most in need." Our daughter has some special needs, and the way in which she has been embraced, cared for, and respected by the kids at North has completely overwhelmed us. Whether helping her find her classes when she first started there, to helping her with her locker, asking her to be part of the volleyball team, to walking with her after school to Subway to help her purchase her dinner, the students have taken her in as one of their own and supported her in so many ways. The pinnacle of this and the way that it shows how much these kids care for one of their own was when this last fall our daughter was elected by her peers to be the Junior Class Homecoming Princess. The deafening cheers by students when our daughter was named Princess was one of the most heartwarming events of my life.

We are constantly surprised, pleasantly so, with the behavior of students when we are at North HS or at events. Many, many times we have had students in the hallway ask us if we needed help finding a room or a person. They have moved to open doors and to find chairs for us and other visitors. We see them behave the same for the other adults in the building and for each other and they have never been anything but polite and respectful toward the adults in the building. North has amazing kids and we are proud our daughter has them for her friends.

Mr. Wolf has continued the strong leadership which he inherited from the previous administration, and the man is ubiquitous! You will see him at afterschool sporting events, chess competitions, in the halls during the day and after school. He seemingly knows every student by name and has a positive personal relationship with every one of them. He's wonderful at communicating with parents and the community and has built strong bridges to community leaders who bring their influence, resources, and help to North. Mr. Wolf also assures that his staff takes the same approach, so you will see the AP's and counselors everywhere as well. A caring professionalism is the foundation of North's administrative leadership.

As mentioned, our daughter comes to North with significant learning issues. The staff, administration, and students have all been immensely supportive of our daughter's learning differences. Teachers modify her lessons to allow her to show her understanding while maintaining rigor in learning. However, learning differences is not only defined by those who have difficulties, but also by those who are gifted. We have friends and neighbors with children at North as well, and these children run the spectrum of learning abilities. From our conversations with them, we have heard examples of teachers modifying lessons for the needs of all children, whether with special needs as our daughter has or for the gifted children our friends have.

Bullying is a sad reality in the lives of youth, but North approaches the problem with restorative practices. North is so successful with this model that it attracts visitors from across the country who are hoping to replicate its success. Students have commented that they are truly cared about at North and that they feel safe.

We are the proud parents of a North High School student, and we would not have our daughter at any other school. Choices abound for families and their children's education, but I don't think you can go wrong at North. We absolutely love North and have told our friends and neighbors the same since our daughter started there almost three years ago. There are numerous afterschool programs for kids (and families!) including those in the arts and in athletics, and the kids take an immense pride in their school. The students, teachers, staff, and supportive community makes North a great place to send your child.

High. I have a graduate of North and a current sophomore and I truly could not be happier with the education and experience provided at North High School. My graduate is thriving at CU and my 15 year old is thriving in his studies and in athletics.

This is very motivated group of teachers. The use of the Chrome Books has really allowed the teachers at North to be creative.

North offers and encourages community involvement from parents and students.

Principal Scott Wolf is highly visible and available to students and parents. Scott offers multiple avenues to be involved and motivated at North.

I do not have a student with learning disabilities

The use of restorative justice has significantly impacted the way students solve differences.

North is a great place to send you children to high school! Dedicated teachers, multiple opportunities for athletics and other after school activities. AP and honors classes and support for struggling students. Staff is wonderful at addressing both academic and social needs of students and make it a priority to offer support and encouragement to students. North is a great school that offers something for everyone!

A school on the rise to greatness. I love that you are always rewarded for your good work here, with certificates, plaques, medals, and gift cards. Even if the school hasn't had the best reputation, now it is a great school, where you will get a good education from great teachers.
